YouTube is so bad these days I don’t even watch anymore. Preroll ads, sponsors, “Like, comment, subscribe and also I have a new podcast!” only to get a 5 min b-rolled regurgitation of spec sheet and obvious stuff.

Even if Prosser is correct about initial reviews hitting tomorrow (Wednesday), it will likely be just initial unboxing and basic use. Full in-depth reviews won’t hit until Friday. I used to be overly anxious about watching and reading reviews, but my new 12.9” iPP will be here soon enough that I can do my own testing. That doesn’t mean I won’t consume all the reviews that are out there after the fact. It’s always nice to get other people‘s points of view.

True but they offer a nice diversion on a boring week evening.

you can already guess most of it anyway : great hardware but the true software potential isn’t unleashed yet

Yeah I don't expect first videos to be any useful. They will be a showcase of fancy shots, specifications, pros of the M1, limitations of the iPad OS, you name it. Just a regular MR thread but full of ads, sponsorships and sub begging.

These reviews will be useless if they don’t show a side by side comparison between the mini led and 2020 iPad Pro contrast and black levels differences.
Yeah the XDR and iOS 15 are the only remaining question marks to be answered. I don't care about the latter, but I really expect the display to perform at least as well how Apple advertised it.

The latter? I assume you are referring to iPadOS 15? That's the biggest question of all... imo. The current iPad Pro 12.9" display is already a great display. I understand people wanna consume content on the XDR Display, as we all know most consider it a consumption device. I'm only concern with what iPadOS 15 features Apple will bring to the 2021 iPad Pros, the XDR Display is just a bonus.

I believe a large percentage of users feel that way, come WWDC if Apple doesn't announce any compelling reason to choose 2021 iPad Pros over 2020 iPad Pros... most will just settle on keeping their 2018/2020 iPad Pros.

Why would there not be full reviews when the embargo is lifted? Reviewers have likely had these for a while now, will be much more than unboxing videos when reviews come out.

The only unboxing videos usually come from YouTubers and Aussie/Kiwi users who get their units first this Friday.

I fully expect extensive reviews tomorrow, just like the ones we saw today for the new iMac.

I don’t think it’s a two-stage embargo this time around, as evidenced by the iMac.

There is no reason to upgrade from 2018/2020 models unless you really need the ram (very unlikely as there aren't that many apps to take full advantage).

This model is for those that have older models.

Just like I say with everything. Those that upgrade every generations are irresponsible people who don't know what to do with their money so they throw it at toys/gadget to make themselves feel better.
Until PadOS takes advantage or there will be some Pro apps there is no need to upgrade from those models.

2017 or earlier - thats a different story. I'm personally finally retiring my Air 2 which is very slow and the ram is annoying. Look forward to do more video/photo editing on this iPad too as Air 2 wasn't sufficient.

Pencil is already on my table so now its the iPad thats missing :)

can't wait :)

What would you say to those who save all year long specifically and only for this one purchase? I just don't get why so many people on forums have to bring down others for how they've decided to spend their money.

Imagine if someone went out to get fast food once a week for an entire year, because that was the one thing they looked forward to, they worked all week for. A $10 dinner.

Now imagine that same person saving that $10 a week instead of eating fast food for the 18 months between iPad Pro releases and spent that same saved money on the new iPad Pro?

Think these things through, please.

I think the new IPP are the most future proof devices
Apple has released. iPads generally last for a long time and with a M1 processor and crap ton of ram, I can see this device lasting a solid 8-10 years.

I might actually upgrade this year depending on wwdc announcement. Currently have air 2 and IPP 10.5.

Agreed except for the math. $10 per week for 18 months is just $780 so kinda short unless you buy like the 2021 Pro 11 from Costco ($750) with no sales tax. :p

Everyone have their vices. If they can afford to buy new devices every year then so be it- they probably have disposable income due to higher paying job, no kids, etc….so no need to judge.

And a person can do a lot worst with their money than To buying a new device every year. Better to spend on an iPad than drugs, gambling or alcohol.

Sounds like you can’t afford to do it, so you try to make yourself feel better by knocking those that can. Always remember, the world doesn’t revolve around you….and you aren’t the only one in it

I think you are correct that no one *needs* to upgrade to every new year's model.

But I don't see any reason to dunk on those that do. If some people are passionate about technology and have the means to upgrade every year then why is it a problem? People have passions and are allowed to like stuff.

You must be friends with JSMITH1 over on the other thread about why people are buying these expensive machines and putting them down for it. Don’t worry about what other people do and focus on yourself. You’ll live a happier un stressful life if you do that. Not everyone is struggling or making ends meet financially wise. No need to put others down if you find yourself financially broke. Like I said in the other thread……everyone wants the Lamborghini experience on a Camry’s budget. It’s not for everyone.

Says the one getting it themselves. Don’t worry about what people do. Worry about yourself. I myself may get it. Not sure yet.
