According to someone on the floor at MWSF, HD rentals are only available for appleTV :(

Oh well...I'm sure it'll become more widely available down the road.

Yea, I was looking forward to trying it out. Oh well hopefully it will be up tomorrow.

You can search for just rentals. Go to the Power search and search for 300. An option for searching for rentals pops up. There are 150 available.

Nevermind. Even though the search for rentals returns 150 movies the "rent" button is not active in any of these.

I'm downloading the Rental version of Wargames now.

Go to the Store, then to Movies, then find Wargames. On the Wargames page, you can click a button to rent for $2.99. It's downloading now. When I started playing it, iTunes asked me if I was sure I wanted to start the 24 hour rental period.

Now it's playing....

I'll try to move it to my iPhone as soon as dload is done.

Ratatouille also has the rental button. I found if you go into the Browse feature and click on a category, the movies in the list which have a "view movie" button instead of a "buy movie" button tend to be the ones that have both the rent and buy buttons. Not 100% accurate, but a good indicator.

I must say, I had to smile at the depiction of the WOPR computer in WarGames as this massive, all-knowing brain....when a single core of my Mac Pro can run circles around it. :)

Ah, progress...

Copying WarGames to my phone now. I notice you can't watch the movie on your Mac, and copy it to the iphone at the same time. As soon as the copy starts, playback stops. Oh well.

Tired to rent 300 but got an error

Oh well, would love to see this work ...
How fast did you get War Games?

Edit: Nevermind. Had to update my billing info again. Downloading now ... Can play almost instantly. This is great!

So how does it work?
It downloads the movie to your HD and then deletes it?
How does it delete it? Empty trash? Does it empty everything else in the trash?

Is that how it works on the AppleTV too?

Can't say yet about the AppleTV ... on a MacBook
The movie's just in my iTunes Library / Movies folder ...
Now the question is: Will it delete itself?
I guess we'll know in 24 hrs.

I doubt it but that would be nice.

Download speed slow?

I've started downloading 300, but it's taking quite a while to download. Right now, I'm getting about 50kb/sec, or almost 8 hours to complete downloading. I can start playing after a few moments, but the movie runs out after about 5 minutes. According to speakeasy, my internet speed is about 7.2mbps down, and 2.0mbps up, so this shouldn't be an issue with my broadband.

At the current rate, I'll have to wait about 5 hours before I can watch the movie through, with no interruptions... a far cry from <30 secs  Definitely hope the download speeds improve, otherwise I don't see how they'll be able to live up to their claim!

Pirates of the Caribbean At World End Avail for Rent

It's $3.99 and avail now. They should just create a "Rentals" section. It'd make it so much easier to find movies.

I like how they have their own sections so that they don't show up in your regular movie area.

This is weird: after I xfered WarGames to my Iphone, it stopped showing up in iTunes on my Mac.

iTunes on the Mac used to show a "Rental" section under Library, but now it's not there. I wonder if you can only have it on one device at a time? I hope not...

Live Free or Die Hard and 300 both say that they're in full screen. That sucks in my opinion. I don't give a damn if there's a lot of iPods and iPod nanos with full frame screens. They have a function to stretch the picture if they need it. If I'm gonna use the rental service, I would hook my Macbook up to a widescreen monitor and I'd rather have the widescreen version, especially on things like Die Hard and 300 where the aspect ratio is 2:35:1. You lose at least half of the picture when they use pan and scan.

Sorry if answered already in another post, but is the new movies in iTunes up for rentals only limited to rentals and we won't be able to purchase them?
