I am loyal to Apple because I simply just haven't seen a compelling alternative product. Android is clunky and is still very rough around the edges, and Windows Phone just lacks an interesting UI and maturity as a platform. Though the newly-announced Lumia 920 does tempt me.

The fact that you said NEVER in captital letters proves that your not open to other options and are a sheep following the herd.

I can say that you are the sheep following a herd if you're a Android fanboy and against Apple. I have my reasons for not wanting to go back to Android. I dislike Android and have gone through several phones because its garbage. Again, its my opinion.

My friend got an S3 a couple of weeks ago and after playing with it I just thought to myself "this is supposed to be the iPhone killer?" Why? Because it has a bigger screen! HA! Even after using the S Voice I giggled at their faltering attempt to be superior to Siri.

It fits in my life better.

^^ This

And the fact that it integrates seamlessly with all my other devices which also (as the OP put's it) just work. I don't have to buy the iphone 5, my 4S is fine, but I simply like having new things...As far as I know there isn't a law against it you pays your money you makes your choice.!

My loyalty to Apple initially came from the iPod line. Loved it. During this time of having an iPod, I had 3 Windows laptops, all of which crashed or had hardware defects. So I bought a MBP, which I still have (over 3 years). A month or so ago I bought a MBA because I personally believe Apple LAPTOPS are the way to go (note: I built a Windows desktop because it is much easier to replace parts and for the experience). I also bought an iPhone 4 after having endless problems with a Droid Eris.

However recently, I feel like Apple has just be skating by because of their popularity. Therefore I have given much consideration to Android in the form of either the GS3 or a Nexus 7. Depending on the next iPhone, I will be picking up one of those soon.

I buy what I like but ill never get tied into one OS because of ecosystem. When you use the ecosystem excuse you're basically a robot telling the company "here take my money, you deserve it".

Blindly following one company based on ecosystem/loyalty is just downright foolish.

So the general view I get is that what no one beats Apple at is the ecosystem (and iCloud is included here). And it is true. I have an iPhone, iPad, and a macbook air and after spending hundreds of dollars on apps it really would be hard to switch to another operating system.

"I like the ecosystem for all kinds of reasons" summarized as "I spent a lot on apps and can't afford to switch". Brilliant.

EDIT: I missed this too -

You point out how dull the home screen has become and you get a response the likes of "It doesn't need any improvement." Or maybe "we don't need widgets." This seems a bit fallacious to be. I am willing to bet that if Apple introduces this the very same people would be falling over their chairs saying how great Apple is. You can lie in general but at least don't lie to yourself. There's always room for improvement and the minute things that iOS 6 has introduced doesn't cut it.

I'm amazed anybody bothered with the OP after this dimwitted deck-stacking. It's a bunch of leading questions dressed up as "I'm just curious", coupled with preening politeness for any sucker who bothered taking it seriously.

I will NEVER go back to Android. I love the iPhone because its simple yet powerful at the same time. When I open my phone I see that its professional and organized. Every time I've used an Android it just seems like its built and designed by a 5th grader. Nothing looks as professional and organized as the iPhone does. A new iPhone comes out once a year and that's fair. If you buy an Android phone though, a few months later a bigger and better one comes out and its annoying. Anyone can go out and get a Galaxy S3 right now but come January, the S4 or whatever will come out. I hate the constant updates that show up on your taskbar and I really can't stand the design, look and feel of the Market or Google Play or whatever they're calling it now.

This is my opinion so I don't want anybody coming back saying that i'm an idiot blah blah blah. This is just what I think.

The owner is responsible for organizing the phone. If you make it look like a mess then it will look like a mess. Just like your house/apartment/room, mom isn't always going to pick it up.

The S series now has over a year between releases. The S4 will be on a longer cycle then the iPhone like the S2 going to S3 was.

Explain to me how an update notification in the task bar that you can swipe away to get rid of is more annoying then a big red circle on one of your home screens that you CANNOT get rid of?

Your "opinions" are just made up stuff. The fact you don't want anyone to reply to you makes it more obvious. Don't call me an idiot if I lie and say idiotic things. However I totally agree with your second sentence, and is exactly why I use an iPhone.

"It just works"

Yet I am the Family "Apple Genius"

Not only that but there are classes that teach people how to use iOS. If it "just worked" why the need for classes?

Anyway, I like iOS for it integration with all things Apple! If you have ALL apple products, iPhone is very good device to have.

I have all apple things (Laptop, iMac, iPad) and still left the 4S and went to the S3. And it integrates very well with my apple gear!

People that come on Macrumors are known to be on the edge of the latest technology. And to be honest, I don't think its fair that when the company the folks here have all come to love cheats them out of this technology. How? Simply put the rumours on the next generation iPhone are very underwhelming and leave a lot to be desired. You've heard the arguments before. An incongruous two tone back, an extra row of icons (yay <s), and a slightly better processor, and camera. Nothing special.

Look I know the word "cheat" here could be misunderstood. Apple continues to earn billions and they will in the future. They don't have any sort of obligation satisfying the demands of tech people like us. But they have one onus: to innovate and try to take technology further. And lately, they haven't been doing that at least in the mobile field compared to their competitors.

Over the past few weeks, as someone who likes technology in general and doesn't support just any one side (I own iOS products, android products, and windows products), I've seen many inane "fanboy" comments made by folks that know they're defending a product (the upcoming iPhone 5) that so far seems far behind the competition (the lumia 920 and the galaxy s3 come to mind).

Sure, I know the iPhone 5 will just "work" (whatever that's supposed to mean) but I'm curious as to know where this loyalty comes from? What's the source of this fanboyism when, lately ( and I say this word with care because the original iPhone and iPads were indeed innovative and denying that would be foolish) Apple hasn't been innovating relative to it's competitors. Why do you guys continue defending a phone which has fallen below the competition (and if you guys don't think so, I'm more than willing to listen to why)?

This post was created with the spirit of technology in mind. Please no flames or vitriolic comments unless you think it contributes actively to the discussion.

Looking forward to your replies.

How do you know it will have no innovation?
What is your definition of Innovation?

Let's wait until tomorrow, and see what it is really about.
So far it is just speculation based on some 'leaks' and rumors.

If they are able to crack things like 4G LTE with a battery that last more than any of the other phones out there, for me it is something relevant.
If the storage capacity is larger, then that will be great, it might not be relevant to you but for me it is. I don't like carrying around SD cards.
That the camera gets better and faster, for me that is important.

For me the loyalty to Apple products started more than 20 years ago, and as I have indeed experienced other products, they never are like Apple's.

Sure there are some annoying fanboyism out there, and there are some nasty things done by Apple, but in general they will still get my money.

I do like the competition out there, what Amazon recently did is notable and exciting, as it might drives good responses by Apple, therefore they speed up releasing things to keep up with the good competition.

I'm loyal to people, not companies and products.

I buy whoever gives me the best product according to my needs. Right now, its Samsung's Nexus with Google's Android. It may be something else completely down the line. It might even be Apple if they clean up their act.

Not really. Just pointing out that your obvious efforts to troll this section is a waste of time.

Most of us who frequent this section are little bit more advanced than "gosh teh androidz suckks" replies.

At least bring something intelligent to the table.

My post was discussing Windows phone. Let's see Android do something worth anything deeper than that, then I'll comment.

"I like the ecosystem for all kinds of reasons" summarized as "I spent a lot on apps and can't afford to switch". Brilliant.

What a fantastic contribution to this thread. Mate, money is the main reason tons of people can't afford to switch. I'm not afraid we're not all as rich as you are. I wish you the best of luck spending your "apparent" millions. Live it up!

Yet despite paying hundreds of dollars, I'm still thinking of switching. That to me says something. It says that despite paying so much money, there must be something I'm missing that's causing me to think about switching in the first place. Moreover, if you compare macrumors to say a year ago, the general doubt, aspersions, and the negativity being cast about Apple's recent products have severely increased.

This is not at all a sign that Apple is down and about but it does casts doubts about it slowly lagging behind in the mobile arena. After all, I don't remember there being so many relatively negative posts in general on macrumors or the general tech community (the Verge, etc).

I'm amazed anybody bothered with the OP after this dimwitted deck-stacking. It's a bunch of leading questions dressed up as "I'm just curious", coupled with preening politeness for any sucker who bothered taking it seriously.

How else am I supposed to post my questions mate? The leading questions act as precursors to my central argument: that of Apple lagging behind. And this acts as a connection my main question: where does the loyalty come from. And as for the politeness, would you want it any other way. If you want to act like a hormonal kid insulting people left, right, and centre for choosing one ecosystem over another you be my guest. But I'm not going down to that level mate.

The Lumia phones I agree with - some very interesting and fresh designs. Most android phones are still mostly plastic and just putting larger screens for the sake of larger screens.

Got news for you, ...the new Nokias are plastic too ;) though they are polycarbonate but so is the GS3.

Is it the OS that's underwhelming? I use iOS and pure Android day to day, and really don't feel like iOS underwhelms me. A few things I like better on Android, but several things I like better on iOS. Everyone seems to say "iOS is falling behind". Falling behind what? Not having widgets?

The iPhone has had the same front face since 2007 and it looks old next to some newer phones. The back looks nice but what do you look at the most? And it is behind technology wise.

Here's an example of a big pro I see with iOS: AirPlay. I use this all the time (and many non-techies I know do as well. Heck my 4 year old knows how to use Airplay inside and out). We've had this for what, 18 months? And in 2012 we see HTC and Samsung basically attempt to do the same. HTC selling a device to connect to your TV (that i'm sure is terrible compared to an apple tv). Have you read the reviews on it? They sound terrible. A hardware company trying to copy a software feature Apple had the year before and they blew it. Big surprise. One of those things that with an iPhone "just work" (or whatever that means ;)).

One thing? I dont even know what Airplay is but there are several more things Android has had for years that the iPhone still doesnt or just got. You would think a company so "innovative" would'nt be last to have 4G or have facetime over a network. Last to get a bigger screen and only go 4" and only longer, not wider.

Oh well, better late than never but they are continuously late.

Never is right. Been there already and the experience was lacking across the board.
Uh, never is NOT right. Only a fanboy would say never.

You don't know if Android could improve in a way that meets or exceeds your standards in the future. Why the hell would you say never? Even I don't say "never" to the iPhone and I have a Steve Jobs Kool Aid avatar to show my disapproval FFS.

Me? Zero Loyalty on any front.

I buy what I need, years ago I had a Windows Mobile Phone, it did the best job for me at the time, even when the original iPhone came out.

Then with the 3GS, I liked that phone the best. Kept that for quite awhile.

Then I switched to sprint, got a Samsung Replenish, freebee. It was nice and got me hooked on android. ( Its a BB knockoff, pile of ****. But it was super reliable ).

I then moved to a Galaxy S3, and I'm loving it.

If the iPhone 5 has some crazy trick up its sleeve? I just might go back to Apple.

Or, I might go to Nokia for the new Luminas, those look nice to.

No loyalty on my end at all on my end. I was a big Apple fan, with my macbook pro.

I only seek what fits my needs and pricing range. Companies are not by default loyal. Why should we be?

To overpay for content, we don't even own (all platforms are under this license thing)?? To not be able to smoothly transfer basics (informations, text messages, picture) from one system to another??
