So Apple's September event was titled "By Innovation Only".

But i'm (genuinely) struggling to find the real "innovation" in any of the products/services they've announced?

Only thing that seemed noteworthy and impressive was the 4-5+hrs battery life improvements in the iPhone from the energy efficiency improvements in their new A13 Bionic chip. Whilst it is pretty impressive, it's more like progression than true innovation.

Am I missing something?

What’s the innovation in any phones these days besides the camera?

Ya.... NO innovation at all.... I'm getting the new one because... well... because... Hubby's not bothering...

Camera improvements.

I felt let down, but not because of the iPhone. Like most, we pretty much knew what we were getting. I was expecting a new AppleTV or AirPods based on rumors. I will say the $4.99 price of ATV+ was pretty unexpected.

5G, ToF sensor, in-display fingerprint, 40W charging, and yes, reverse wireless charging.

Why do people want reverse charging? At a time when people are doing everything to preserve iPhone battery cycles and health it seems like the stupidest thing you could add. Im still waiting for touch id + in display fingerprint though. The best spy movies always make you use a thumb and a face.

I guess the iPad Pro wireless charging the Apple pencil is also stupid?

Some people are willing to pay $69 every 18 months to get a new battery. But they want the convenience of charging AirPods and Watch, just in case power runs low.

No, because iPads like Macs are rated at 1000 cycles while iPhones are rated at 500. The iPhones battery degrades twice as fast, it isn't as suited to charge other devices.

Why do I need in-display finger print sensor when my phone unlocks with my face?

For me, the main reason is that phone doesn't have a notch! In addition, I've found the in-display fingerprint readers generally faster than face-id.

The rest of it is just spec whoring.

True, but for some people, these items offer real benefits. I for one would love if the iPhone came with fast charging out of the box (though I note the 11 Pro models are the first iPhones to come with fast chargers as standard), USB-C (less cables to carry around, and will replace USB-A and lightning), and and in-display fingerprint reader (notchless display).

I think his point wasn't that he wants these features in the iPhone, but to highlight that these were innovations introduced by others. Anyways, with the AirPods now having built-in wireless charging + the new iPhone 11 series having 4+hrs of extra battery life, wouldn't now be the best time to introduce reverse wireless charging to the iPhone?

Also, I don't see Apple introducing in-display fingerprint sensor together with FaceID - Apple swears by the security of FaceID and introducing the fingerprint sensor would serve to undermine it.

My iPhone X still has great battery life so it is fine.

I honestly was hoping for reverse wireless charging for my Apple Watch and Airpods :p
