I think some have a misconception with what ‘innovation’ is, and they hold Apple to such a high standard because they used that word, now others are perplexed, what did Apple introduce today that was innovative? I think the iPhone had some really nice improvements, especially with Face ID/the cameras, improved battery life and fast charger including the box, ect. There are a lot of things in Apples future that will be more ‘innovative’ than what we saw today, but still some nice changes introduced.

Why do I need in-display finger print sensor when my phone unlocks with my face? The rest of it is just spec whoring.

What does better Siri have to do with iPhone hardware?
it doesn't...i just want it:D

also want USB C and Always on Display and SD Card and even Pencil support...or at least a smaller pencil made for the 11 Pro.....those are hardware...last time i checked.....

If only they would drop the hyperbole in their presentations...

Sometimes Apple does have some truly unexpected and impressive features or improvements to promote. Other times, like this one, it's mostly just expected updates and adding features that the competition has offered for a long time (night mode). As a photographer I happen to find the ultrawide lens to be very exciting, but as a photographer I usually already carry camera gear with me anyway (but maybe I would carry a separate camera less often if I had an ultrawide on my iPhone).

Even when Apple has plenty of cause to toot their own horn, the constant hyperbole keeps my eyes rolling so much I miss some of the presentation. Everything is the best, the first, the only, the fastest, and the most powerful. It's all gorgeous, stunning, tremendous, and remarkable. I suppose they have to do something to get people excited to upgrade their perfectly fine older models. I will probably upgrade my iPhone X just to get the ultrawide, but again... I like my ultrawides. It's not exactly innovative, but it's a feature I would enjoy having. Or maybe I will skip it this round... I often have my Olympus in my backpack along with a few lenses that cover an even more versatile range than the iPhone 11 Pro. It's those times when I leave everything at home but my phone that the extra wide angle would be nice.

By your own words, they're improvements, and not innovation in the true sense. Improvements are the least we expect in a new generation iPhone, but innovation is what we're missing (and have been missing for the last few years with Apple). With this event specifically including "innovation" in the title, I thought Apple were going back to true innovation, but I'm struggling to see what the innovation here was, hence the thread. Improvements to cameras, battery life are just that, improvements. And, throwing in a fast charger in the box is definitely not innovation lol.

It's better and faster and more versatile. Did you want a phone with a holographic image or something? If you feel Google is innovating more you could get the Pixel 4 LOL

I agree, innovation is few and far between. The last truly innovative feature Apple introduced with the iPhone is FaceID - unique and best in class (and still is).

As I mentioned, I think Apples definition of innovation is different from what somebody would expect altogether for things that wasn’t rumored. But what are you considering that would be considered innovation altogether? What are you indicating that Apple should have included today that would changed your mind?

throwing in a fast charger in the box is definitely not innovation.

No, a fast Charger is not Innovation, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that actually included that. I think there was a slew of changes that were relatively refreshing to see with Face ID, the improvement with battery life, the fast charger, the camera, A13, etc.

So that means you do care! I appreciate your honesty!

Looks are equally as important as function. If design and aesthetics weren't important, we'd all still be using something like this:

Exactly, the camera housing on the X/XS is more consistent and aesthetic. It's probably more robust too. Now that the 11 Pros have FOUR (4) camera bumps (including the camera housing itself), that whole area is more prone to build up but worse, damage. Four bumps means four times the chance of it catching or brushing against something and potentially breaking.

Also, four times the eye sore. The camera area of the 11 Pros look really cheap and something that looked slapped on. They seem so obtrusive and out of place. Not very Apple in my honest opinion.

Interesting theory and very believable!

excuse me? you dont call this innovation?!?!?

What about SLOFIES??? :D:D:D

You must be easily impressed if you found those changes "refreshing."

All of the things you listed are things that everyone and their mother knew was going to happen. Want to know the future? The 2020 iPhones will have even better Face-ID, battery life, faster charging, a better camera, and performance too! You can bet on that!

where was the innovation ? I have to OG iPhone and this event did not make me upgrade.

Innovation is a personal moving definition.

For one, Apple advance mobile photography. Even though you personally may not be interested in that per se, it, nonetheless counts as innovation. I'm just using that one example, no need to get into a discussion about every feature and whether the feature was innovative.

Sounds like you should be sticking to your 0G. Maybe hold off for the rumored holographic model coming in a few decades...

How do you have an og iPhone if you bought the iPhone 8, X, and XS?

innovation
noun
in·no·va·tion | \ ˌi-nə-ˈvā-shən \
Definition of innovation

1: the introduction of something new
2: a new idea, method, or device

Per Merriam Webster, sounds like Apple did innovate.

Next.
