10.5 here. For me, it is the perfect compromise, the sweet spot. The 9.7 was *just* a little too confining for drawing and viewing and editing documents. The 12.9 was too big to comfortably carry with one hand when I was working on-the-go. The 10.5 was just roomy enough and just portable enough for my purposes. I'll never go back to either of the other sizes.

My current favorite is the 10.5 as its the new new. Portable, powerfull, just big enough for a full size keyboard and the bezel reduction looks great IMO. That being said, I'm not an Apple Pencil user nor a huge multi-tasker.

I prefer the 9.7 pro , but that was left out of the poll.

Still one of my favorite size iPads today. Not too small, but not too big. Just right. Even though the 10.5 seems to be the perfect median for many, I still have an appreciation for the 9.7 iPad.

Other than it being a cheaper option, there is no advantage of having a 9.7 vs 10.5

I have to sort of agree here--the only disadvantage there was for me when I switched from the 9.7" Pro to the 10.5" Pro was having to deal with selling the 9.7" and then spending the money on the 10.5" Pro and a new Apple Smart Keyboard and case. Other than that, literally everything else is an improvement. Screen is better, audio is better, RAM is doubled, processor is way faster, screen real estate is bigger in roughly the same package, etc.

I do think next time I might try the 12.9" Pro for at least a generation to see how I like it, but I keep going back and forth on that. I said that last time and ended up with the 10.5" anyway.

It doesn't have to be advantage, I was strictly mentioning tbe 9.7 variant being my size preference over the years, even with the larger bezels.

with apples current strategy, 9.7 will be the mainstream size, like it or not.

I have all 3, out of the options on the poll it would be the 10'

The 12 for me is only really usable on a desktop. I'd go further, I actually struggle see the point of the 12 or a workflow where it would make sense other than drawing. As soon as I go big I'm reaching for a laptop which defeats the device totally.

While I have been intrigued by the 12.9, I can't imagine a use case (at least in my work flow) where I would need the app to be larger - other than side-by-side multitasking or as you say drawing or graphic editing.

10.5 for me. Portability is the biggest factor--if I want a big display I use my MacBook.
That was ultimately one of the major factors for my choosing the 10.5 Holdability is the other, I tend to use my iPad in my hands as opposed to having it on a desk or even on my lap.

Is the new 12.9 lighter than the first one? This is my biggest problem with my 2015 one. It’s just too heavy and unconfortable to hold it with one hand more than 10 minutes.

This is a tough one... I had the 12.9” original Pro, bought the new 12.9” Pro, and just decided to get the 10.5” instead.

You can’t really go wrong with either at this point. The 12.9” is a thing of beauty, but are you willing to trade off some portability fo that big screen?

I’d say if you’re going to be using the iPad as a primary device, at a desk a lot, the 12.9” is the one to get. Certainly if you’re an artist and are using the pencil, bigger is better.

For typical iPad usage, they 12.9” can be unwieldy. Holding it in bed, on the couch, laying it on a table, it can feel kinda big.

The 10.5” is nicely sized and feels quite a bit bigger than the old 9.7”.

Personally, I also have a Surface Pro (ducks), and that’s my “big tablet”. So I think going to 10.5 was the right move for me.

I just got the 12.9 in the mail this afternoon so the jury is still out but really enjoying it so far. Was really nice for reading my sheet music, loving the videos and tried some note taking and thinking I will love the size for that. I think the back case I chose with Smart Cover will be good too.

Yes, it’s lighter. I’ve had both and the new one is noticeably lighter.

Which is surprising. Because the second Gen 12.9 weighs 1.49 Pounds and actually has larger batteries (41 Watt) Compared to the first Gen 12.9 Pro (38.5 battery Watt) weighing in at 1.57 pounds.

I Prefer the 12.9 over the 10.5. I owned the 10.5 for a few weeks and after a while I just found it wasn't a huge upgrade from the 9.7. At first I did find the 12.9 too big, but after a few days I got used to it. Larger screen for multitasking, videos, gaming. Better speakers and better battery life over 10.5. I use either the ASK or Smart Cover so that I'm not always holding it in my hands.
