M1 iPad Air.

It's just right in terms of performance and price.
I feel the Air is the perfect spot. Too bad they have to pull the usual Apple BS move by forcing u to pay more to get a bigger storage and Face ID. I hate how Apple tries to swindle its customer base like this.

2022, they brag about 4k videos, high def pictures, great for gaming...but then give you a HD that isn't sufficient for those uses especially in 2022.

Which iPad would you get now if you had the chance to repurchase your iPad? Would you stick with your current one, be it the iPad Air, iPad Pro, iPad mini or regular iPad?

I ask because there has been so much talk of the iPadOS being so behind, outdated and holding back the actual capabilities of the iPad Pro hardware.
I always have the chance to repurchase an iPad. ;)

I'm sticking with my 256GB iPad Mini 5. It's the last iPad Mini that supports a smartcover. I have a matte screen protector applied which makes it great as an ereader. This is a super light and super portable option. (accessories are dirt cheap... including those from top-tier 3rd party companies)

I'm testing the Adonit Note to replace my Apple Pencil 1... so far it's a winner. Although I lose tilt functionality, I like the more tradition size and feel of it over the Apple Pencil... no need to pair it and no battery drain.

I'm one of those that believes that the current iPad hardware across the entire line is more than capable and that it's iPadOS that is the limiting factor.

Did you ever give the Logitech Crayon a trial run?

I’d keep my mini 6 and add a larger iPad Pro to the arsenal for when I have space to sprawl out with a larger screen. For me, the mini 6 (and Pencil 2) helped me understand how an iPad Pro would work in my workflow. There would definitely be times when I’d enjoy the larger screen. But for day to day, this mini 6 has been my fav iPad to date. Killer little device.

Oh, my word! Did not know that. We rely on smart covers in our household.

What about the regular sized iPads? For example, does the base model, iPad 9th generation, work with a smart cover?

You may have given me one more reason to stick with my iPad Air 2!

Why not get the iPad Air 5th gen? Seems like the same thing as a pro besides the promotion and 1 other camera feature.
The Air's screen is slightly smaller and in Lightroom that can translate to the Pro displaying an extra row of thumbnail images.

There's also better speakers, cameras, and more robust 5G.

I tried Air 5th gen and decided to go with Pro 11. The biggest thing for me was speakers. It might sound trivial however once you get used to the 4 speakers on Pro it's hard to listen to other iPad's as it sounds "one sided" vs evenly spread out.

Face ID is nice since I'm so accustomed to it on iPhone. Add pro-motion in and it's worth the slight cost bump up from Air for my daily use.

Even though I have a Mini 5, Air 3, and recently Air 4, my 2 base iPad 5's still do everything I need (albeit a tad slower recently, but nothing major). So my vote is just keep what I have. Interesting poll.

Testing the air 5 and 11” pro right now.. Not sure, which I’ll end up keeping! Last iPad was the 2017 10.5 Pro.

For now, I don't have any iPad! Even don't feel the necessity of it! But yeah if I have to choose then that would be iPad Air!

I don’t think the flat edges work for Smart Covers. At least, I haven’t seen any on Amazon. They’re all Smart Folio style with both front and back coverage.
I meant something like this:

I like this style because the folded triangle makes one handed holding the Mini portrait very comfortable, and I don't have to worry about it disconnecting and the mini dropping.

I know about those as they’re really common and I actually use something similar to that case. However, @sracer specifically mentioned he preferred the Smart Cover and those protect the front only.

As far as I’m aware, there are no Smart Cover-like clones on Amazon for the iPad mini 6. A quick search on Amazon only showed original Apple Smart Covers for the mini 5. All the 3rd party cases cover both front and back.

I prefer smart covers too. I couldn't care less about protecting the back at home, they are lighter and they can stand on their own, contrary to smart folios (and like the magic keyboard in a way).
I use my iPads naked most of the time at home, and the smart covers (and keyboards) work well as stands when need (much faster to attach and detach).
Magic keyboard is great too for that, but there is none for the mini.

Whenever I mention smart covers, people often conflate smart covers with smart cases. Although there are no official definitions, there are some conventions that are informally followed... Covers only cover the front. Cases cover front, back, and edges. Folios typically cover only front and back but leave the edges exposed.

I love the official smart covers from Apple. They were extremely well made, super thin and light, easy to remove. I just need something to protect the front glass from scratches and the occasional accidental impact from something sharp.

For the back of my iPads, a simple clear skin that protects the back from scratches and improves grip gives all the protection I need.

The cover as an accessory is so important to me that it influences my purchasing decision. That may sound strange to some folk, and it may very well be strange, but for me it is part of the ownership experience. smartcover.png

Not I repeat NOT Investing in another iPad Product. M2 14” MacBook Pro. That’s it. The cost of New iPad pLus my Tax Refund.

Editing Photo and Video while possible on iPadOS, is A joke compared to MacOS.

My 2018 iPad Pro 11” has been my BEST and most productive “computer” Ever in life. And still going.

Is that Speed Racer/Mach GoGoGo? Curious, where did you buy the skin?
