What are you designing?
More software? Or Graphic Design?

Because if it's the second, there's no need for software?
Tominated Design. [Which also sounds much better]

Try and do something in the style of your 'tar.
Maybe just use a different colour? And then change the text?
Or use the shape and add different content.

if you are creating software, hire a graphic designer to design your logo. if i'm a graphic designer and i need some sort of personal software program, i wouldn't create it myself. i have no idea how to create software but i have an idea. reverse that and thats where you seem to be.

i do, however 2.0 it looks, somewhat enjoy your avatar, though.

I am doing web design/developing. But I am still going to make applications. So do you guys think i should do the secont one or make a whole new one?

Try using a more professional font family like Helvetica.

Helvetica is a generic boring plain font. For the love of god, don't use Helvetica.

Personally I much much prefer this logo:

image from your website obviously, also looks better when the white stroke is visible

perhaps you can add the word 'design' to it or change 'software' to 'design' ?

if not atleast do something in that kind of style, it feels much more professional and looks a lot nicer

Now that looks even better. :)

I agree with these two...what you have here is good, I'd go with it.
If you want to redesign your site, throw in some different colors or more colors, but I'd keep what you have here because IMO it looks more personal and individualized and not generic, boring and [Helvetica] "like everyone else's stuff". :p

I think the best option would be to adapt your current logo to that "Web 2.0" look that you desire.

Perhaps you're not familiar with the entire Helvetica family. Or perhaps you've seen it misused too many times. Helvetica can be an extremely effective font when used correctly.

Helvetica is a gorgeous font when used correctly. Hevetica Neue is a definate favorite of mine. It's one of those that i can't seem to get away from. By no means it is generic and boring...that sounds like something a half-assed college professor would tell students (i know professors like this). They would probably follow that statement up with something like "use futura instead", which isn't doesn't even resemble helvetica, so in no way would you use them interchangeably. Futura is a little played out now, but it's still a nice font as well.

now, on to the topic: i agree with the idea to adapt your current logo into something else. maybe a color change would suffice. Or, flipping the shape, so it resembled a "d" and even still i might change the color. Maybe make it white. White would be nice...especially for "design" stuff.

You've said that you have updates to add but I think the older website's a lot classier.

Have you considered integrating everything into the box and getting a cleaner sort of interface?
I don't see the point in having to scroll just because of a logo.

this is what i was talking about with the color and flipping the thing. Sorry, but i was really interested in this, so i took the 30seconds it took to change this. yes, i realize it's not the same font, but it's close and i was only willing to spend 30 secons on it. To me, it looks like a "d"

EDIT: Just realized what a loser i am, that i will go onto a forum and "redesign" someone elses logo without them asking, but i refuse to work on my website, my homework, or anything i should be doing right now...

the problem is that the site I normally have is a rapidweaver one! It uses someone else's rapidweaver theme as well. I want my design site to be made all by me.

that doesn't look too bad. I'll test it out with my site and see.

What resolution do you use and do you aim to design for?
Every time I click one of the active links the focus returns to the top and I have to scroll down again on my 1024x768 screen. That's pretty bad design when the only thing causing it is the logo.

I know I am aiming to make 1024x768 the best res, but I have to choose a logo first.

if you want to see what this is going to go into, just see http://tominatedsoftware.com/design with 'guest' as the user and 'design' as the password. BTW: I haven't updated that to what I have got on my imac, so there is some things i am going to change. I will tell you once it is updated
Is it only me that's seeing just a plain blueish page?
[Although it is a very nice blue colour]

HTML:
<p>... look good in any web browser whether it is for Windows, Mac OS X or even Linux.</p>
But just by reading the text in your code, this can't be right
FireFox on *cough* Winblows XP *cough*.

Unless I'm not meant to be seeing anything

no that's not right. it worked fine when I tried it on my xp laptop (firefox). It was only IE6+ doing this (trying to fix it)

yes i like this one the most
but maybe you can play around with the type choice;)

I have been trying to put my finger on why your logo seems familiar and it finally occurred to me:

I could never understand why Quark dumped their "new" one so fast for something not as good. In fact, they should have just stuck with their older logo.

Either way, they have an even newer logo now that isn't represented in your list:

As for the OP, I don't like either of the two new "logos" at all. What you have currently is much better.

Quark changed from the logo announced in 9/05 because it was spot on for someone else's bug just a different color.
