I am actually doing a lot of shifting.

1. 64GB WiFi + 3G. This will be replacing my Kindle DX and will be my new portable, replacing my Air. I will be developing in house apps to perform the functions I normally would on my air.

2. 16GB/32GB WiFi (maybe 3G). This will be replacing my fiancee's Kindle. I will be shifting my Air to her and taking her Uni Macbook classic as my new test/development machine. This iPad will also be the living room pad for other functions.

Like you, I'll be getting rid of my DX and my wife's K2. Haven't decided which way to go about the iPad.

Depending on how much $$$ I can get together, I will either buy the smallest one w/o ATT or the most expensive one. I hope that makes sense. I will either go all the way, or stick with the basic.

I already have the touch and Macbook and g4, so this will be a toy for me.

I plan on going as far as my $$ will carry me. I'll buy the biggest, baddest one I can. If I go smaller, I'm sure I'd regret it down the line. If I don't get the 3G model, I might regret it - so I'll likely go with that. OTOH, i already use services like DropBox, which can give me on-line access to my stuff from just about anywhere I can jump on to a wifi signal, so that could save me some $.

If I get one it will be the 32GB with 3G. I'm hoping Apple will upgrade all the product categories at the last minute and I'll actually get a 64GB. They've done it before. :)

Since there is no contract necessary I think that means I can switch 3G service on and off depending upon whether I think I'll need it for a particular month. When I go home for the holidays--I'll pay for 3G that month. Otherwise, it will be just wifi. That's actually quite a feature when you think about it.

Forums are not just for the fanbois. Get used to it.

I'm about the farthest thing from a fanboy. I do like MOST of Apple's products but I also agree there is plenty to criticize about them. What I don't do is just complain. If you are going to post about how it's so terrible at least come up some sort of thoughtful commentary.

If the 3G wasn't $130 more it'd be quite a feature. As it is, I can't see paying that just for the option to buy data services. Maybe I'm a bad example because I already have unlimited data through my cell, which can do wifi tethering so I can just flip that on as needed. Not as convenient, but also not $130+$30/month difficult.

I am leaning towards the 64GB with 3G but that is only if I don't buy a MBP instead although it is highly unlikely I will a Mac Mini will suit my Home Computing needs I think (or a base 27" iMac) :)

I have Verizon, and I just returned my Droid a week ago :D This is PERFECT for me. I was paying Verizon the same $30 a month for unlimited. Now I can have the iPad and use 3G everywhere (unlike ipod touch). I went back to my old phone (still with a year vzw contract). This is so cool because there are no contracts with AT&T, and I can cancel at anytime unlike the Droid. PERFECT! (btw, AT&T coverage is perfect where I live) I think that the no-contracts make it perfect for verizon people that have just a basic phone.

Ya, I figure in one or two gens the 3G/GPS will be in all of them, storage will be doubled across the board, front facing and maybe a back facing cam added, plus a few other things we aren't thinking of now. Go with the cheap version for revA and trade up in 18-24 months.

Isn't the GPS in both versions now. The tech spec page has this under the Location heading: Assisted GPS (Wi-Fi + 3G model)

I'll probably get the 32GB model wo 3G for a start.

I'll probably get a 16GB wireless one on the secondary market if I can find a good enough deal.

That is what the 3G model is called. Only the Wi-Fi + 3G model have A-GPS.

I will go with the 64GB with 3G. I am realy looking forward to the iPad and I think I will use this more when traveling rather than lugging around my laptop. It will be so much easier to use on an airplane then the laptop.

I will be getting the 64gb w/ 3g however I will be waiting to see the 3g pre paid options are like in Australia. I would love for optus to link it to my iPhone $99 timeless plan with 1.5gb of data a month as I don't come close to that most of the time. If not I would like to see if tethering could be done some how, even if that involves jailbreaking.

Please someone help me. I can't decide if I want to wait for the 16GB 3G version, of if I should just get the 32GB Wifi only version and just enable tethering *ahem* on my iPhone. Damn it!!!!! Apple!!! Why not release both at the same time.

Probably is, I have a trip to San Francisco on April 10th, and if I could really have the iPad by then, it would be AMAZING!

I'll probably get the 16gig + 3G, but I'd love to get the 32gb model. My company will reimburse me 50% of the cost (up to 500 bucks), so either model will cost me in the 300-400 dollars range when you throw in some of the add-ons.

I'm going with the base model, wifi only. I already have an iPhone, and I don't really need 3G access on this device.

I'm buying it mainly for the eBooks (since I was considering a Kindle DX), but it will be nice to run some of my iPhone apps and games on a big screen too :)

I'm pretty much committed to Verizon through work, and ATT doesn't have great coverage here, but any of the places I'd sit down to use it pretty much all have wifi anyway. Even so, I travel enough that I plan on getting the 64gig 3G so I can use it in case I have no wifi.

64 + 3g

Here's my reasoning. My music alone is 14 GB. I can't even fit my photographs on my iPhone--that's another 15 GB or so. And I just know there will be a shipload of new apps I'll want to have. And then there's iWork--I'll actually be able to do work and store it on the iPad -- it's really going to add up.

I'm not sure how often I would use the 3G connection--but for those times I need it, I'll want it. I don't like being out of connection when it's necessary. My iPhone data usage is way under 250 MB, so I'll be using the month to month $15.00 plan.

(I'm sticking with the non 3G to start (can always Ebay later))

But my question revolves around whether or not apps for this will grow in size from the iPhone versions and i'm thinking the answer is: very likely.

I would imagine that we are going to see large apps which will tap out memory.

As a matter of fact, it is perhaps inevitable that this becomes an issue almost immediately (memory constraints)

So if you have the extra cash 64GB (32GB min.) might be wise.

Right now I plan on getting the 32GB non 3G. I would probably prefer the 3G version but I don't want to wait the extra month to get it.

Me too! I don't want to have to wait another month to get it and if I need 3G that is what I have my iPhone for.
Maybe in version 2 or 3 I'll get 3G when the iPad is more grown up! :)

voted for 32G wifi only.

Not tempted by 3G, can use my phone as a wifi hotspot so that'll be fine, and I expect I'll mostly use it at home, or for taking to the parents to save space when travelling.

Would have considered the 64GB for futureproofing, but this feels like it'll evolve quickly, so I'd rather hold back and maybe rebuy for 2nd or 3rd gen and get more storage then.

64Gb + 3G...
... because I am planning to get it paid for by my company :D

Presentations (iWork)
On site document access (pdf, etc)

Any other work type reasons I can use?
