Finally made time to watch first episode of The Crown, Season 3. I liked it, so now I'm probably going to be binge-watching the rest even if this is not a great time of year for me to spend on TV or movies. In a way I'm quite happy I ended up with a delayed watch of this season of the show. I was far more ready for the cast changes I had read about, perhaps just by virtue not having recently seen the original players.

I shall treat myself to the DVD for season 3 (I already have the DVDs for seasons 1 and 2) whenever it becomes available.

The Crown is excellent. I learn history from that show. :)

I received Season 1 of The Leftovers on blu-ray for Christmas. I watched the entire series as it aired and I don't remember a lot of it (plus I was in high school at the time). I have not started re-watching yet, but I am going to--the entire series. I remember finding it frustrating and tedious and also incredibly fascinating. It was created by the co-creator of Lost and there are some similarities. Time for a crazy ride...

My youngest decided we needed to re-visit Avatar: The Last Airbender. Fun series. Maybe on Book 1 Chapter 16. Ripping through it again.

It's excellent, but you will definitely need to hang on :D There's some crazy twists, turns, tonal shifts, flashbacks/forwards, and sideways to other places ... but the payoff, it spectacular, it's not what you think, and no, they don't (this make sense later).

It's beautifully acted, written, directed, some of the best score work on a TV show ever.

Watched The Stranger on Netflix. It's a show about a family man whose life is plunged into turmoil when a strange woman approaches him at a pub and informs him that his wife has a life altering secret she's been keeping. Then the wife suddenly disappears after the husband asks about the secret, and it turns out there are mysteries a plenty to be solved.

It was pretty good. Richard Armitage does good work as the male lead Adam Price, but Siobhan Finneran steals all the scenes she's in as DS Johanna Griffin, the detective assigned to investigate the case of the missing woman, among others.

There is a 3-part series on George Washington hosted by the History Channel starting Sunday night and is supposed to give an in-depth portrait of the man. You can also stream it on the History Channel website. I will give an update as it progresses.

Given how well done Project Blue Book is (another History Channel gem), I suspect this one on George Washington will be good.

By the way, Episode 5 of Project Blue Book will be on Tuesday evening. I highly recommend this series. Not sure about Season 3 yet, but here is a link showing the ratings for the first 4 episodes of Season 2:

Encouraged by the significant up tick with Episode 4.

I got a little put off by that throwaway line ending in the cited piece " ...and lean into the nostalgia of the 1950s." I was still a kid in that era, a girl interested in math and science, in what was still a man's world then in the USA at least. There was a not-impossible but difficult path ahead for American women in such careers, and absolutely no school guidance counselors were shy about making that pretty clear to little girls. And so the day that I have nostalgia for that era won't be until I lose waaaay waaaaaaaay more of my marbles than has happened so far.

Still. the Project Blue Book series has sounded interested to me sometimes, so I shouldn't condemn it without starting at Season 1 and seeing how it goes!

Bingeing on The Outsider. (HBO). A very eerie whodunnit. Great score as well!

If you do decide to watch, go with open eyes! It is, after all, somewhat fictional. One excellent movie which would not have a gender bias is Close Encounters of The Third Kind. While not a true story (as far as we know), it was/is excellent. In fact, it is typically in the top 5 of Spielberg's best.

It's really outstanding, and I love the slow[er] burn, so many shows get into a rush to have the big reveal, especially shows with a paranormal slant, this is taking it's time to really superb effect.

Blew through Locke and Key and also October Faction... Locke and Key was stellar in my opinion. Can't wait for season two!

I checked out the comic, Volume 1: Welcome to Lovecraft, it's pretty fantastic (haven't seen the show yet).

While the series does get a little "wild", to me it is one of the better comic books out there! I have read it a few times now and love it. So much so, I invested in the hardbound trades and also picked up a few of the one offs. They have all been great!!

Oh cool, yeah, I did a free digital checkout through Hoopla (connects with your local library account), they have a pretty solid collection!

There’s a new series on Netflix called Ragnarok direct to my Fire Stick from Norway. I find it very interesting and engrossing. It’s hard to explain. Imagine teen angst with Norse gods and global warming and you’ll get an idea. I watched it twice last weekend.

Not a true TV "series", but last night, I watched "The Green River Killer: Mind of a Monster", and boy, did it hit home! We actually live up in that area. In fact, after we moved to our town home in 2005, it is only about a mile or so from the Green River. I actually recognize a lot of those scenes in the documentary, especially Kenworth Trucking. And that first bridge shown in the documentary, my wife and I have walked over it MANY times!

Here is a link to it, and one can watch on line:

What it also inspired me to do was to start watching, again, the excellent Netflix series: Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. He is also from an area close to where we used to live. Previously, I re-watched another excellent Netflix series with a "similar" there: Manhunt: Unabomber.

And I just saw this:

Talk about a twist of irony!
