Has anyone had any luck finding a basic USB-C that plays nice with Apple? I just want more USB-C ports for my desktop Mac and don't want a dock with video, Ethernet, etc. 20 gbps preferred but not necessary.
Which Mac? If it's a recent one, I'd recommend a basic Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4 hub. These require power, but you said it's a desktop Mac so that shouldn't be a problem.

US$89.98 - Yottamaster: 3 USB-C + 1 USB-A (Likely standard Intel reference design, but I have never heard of this brand).

US$97.95 - OWC 3 USB-C + 1 USB-A (Standard Intel reference design.)

US$99.99 - Amazon Basics: 3 USB-C + 1 USB-A (Standard Intel reference design.)

US$95.65 - Plugable: 3 USB-C + included USB-C HDMI dongle (Standard Intel reference design.)

Mac Studio. I actually have the OWC one for my other machine. Part of the issue is that the Mac needs to connect to the front port which is not helpful for a desktop. I was also hoping for something smaller and cheaper without another power brick.

Macs don't have USB-C ports that support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20 Gbps. You would need to add a 3rd party USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 XHCI controller (via a PCIe slot or Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis). A Thunderbolt 5 hub or dock has such a USB 3.2 gen 2x2 controller built-in for its downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, but the controller cannot be used with Apple Silicon Macs unless there's a Thunderbolt 3 device between the Apple Silicon Mac and the Thunderbolt 5 hub/dock.

Not very powerful, and have quite a few limitations, but if just want more USB-C ports, it may works.

Thanks as that one looks good other than a bit big. Probably pick one up as I see it is in stock at Best Buy. Frankly surprised they have something I can use.

I did find and purchased this one last week - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCC5RC1Y So far seems good compromise for $15.99. 2xUSB-C and 2xUSB-A
