Whip out any instant on/off device at a bus stop. A net book needs time to boot.

I keep seeing this instant on/laptop needs to boot up mantra.

Really? Does everyone power their laptops down before putting it in their bag? When I take my laptop out, it takes about 1 second to be fully good to go from sleep mode.

I think the portability has pros and cons. I can see 'whipping it out' due to the instant on etc, in places where you wouldn't be easily able to use a netbook. However, for longer train/plane journies, I think the form factor might work against it. A netbook/laptop will sit there on your seat-back tray and you can watch a movie hands free, or navigate lazily with the trackpad. With the ipad you'll have to support it yourself (or use the ugly Apple case)

I either drive to work, or take a 1.5hour train to another office, or fly 3-5 hours on business. So I don't think it'll fit well with how I travel.

But thats ok, I see enough value as a coffee table/sofa surfer machine to buy day 1 anyway.

c/s my viliv S5 never dies and stays on standby ready to jam at any location, blending in and not looking like lunch meat to a jacker/robber.

This little thing will be my iPads mommy (use to sync) if I get one.

This whole thread makes me glad I don't take the Bus. Personal transportation FTW! :D:cool:

Broken windows and carjackings FTL.

Maybe its living in Philly and Savannah in the 80s and 90s, but being immersed in any device severely reduces your situational awareness, and SA is what keeps you safe...everywhere.
