by dud, i mean something wrong with it (ie, gradient screen, condensation, loud humming, etc).

it seems that a bunch of users are reporting issues with their imacs. i'm sure its just a case of a loud minority. im waiting on my first imac's arrival. until then, who HASN'T had to return/exchange their first aluminum imac?

I have 3 new iMacs and 2 were fine but the 3rd had a problem with the optical drive (DVD) the very first time I used it and I had to take it in to have it repaired, they wouldn't simply allow me to return it and get a new one.

So that's a 66% chance that it will work fine :(

Cheers

no lockups, no problems other than my bluetooth was acting a big wonky the other day.. that's since gone away with a reboot.

Sorry to say my first was a dud, some weird screen freak out issue, had it replaced, and no problems at all on the new one.

Got my first Mac yesterday (20" 2.0C2D). I've had no problems whatsoever, and I think it's the same for most people, but it's just most don't create a new thread saying how surprised they are at how it actually works :p

To the OP: I'm not sure you got your words correct. Dud generally means problematic. You wrote, "by dud, meaning nothing's wrong". However if I understand what you are asking then I got a good one. My iMac came near perfect.
I could never say any LCD screen is perfect even if it looks perfect but otherwise I didn't get a dud.;)

20 inch iMac ordered late August, absolutely perfect....
same with leopard - clean install and no issues what so ever

Most people reading this forum have NOT had problems. The few you hear about having problems take up an extraordinarily large proportion of the forum traffic. No disrespect to those with problems, and certainly NOT to minimize their problems.

Most mac owners are not having significant problems. That's by design, not by luck.

Even though these posts are getting a bit old :), I'll state I have had zero issues with my 24" 2.8. Perfect screen. No lockups even "pre fix".

Best machine I've ever owned.

I converted to my first Mac this week. 24" 2.4ghz w/500gig and no problems with me. Awesome machine. So happy I made the switch.

No problems on the two iMacs I bought 2 weeks ago...

... just don't put a mini-cd into the slot loading drives, that can be a pain as I learned the hard way (although in my defense it did say it could be put into an iMac and I did it against what knowledge and my gut told me to), but aside from that no issues.

well, lets just say maybe i did, but am not experiencing the problems, why? thats because the second i got my imac, put in the leopard drop in disc immediately, and installed the updates, one of which was call the "iMac Graphics Firmware 1.0", this fixed all imacs, even the most freezing, and plus the 20 inch fade problems from top to bottom, so as long as you install the updates, you are fine, other wise, its a [unknown] chance

Perfect

As others have said, you need to take tech forums and put them into the proper perspective. People that have problems often outnumber the silent and happy users. In a sense that is what the forum is for, figuring out problems and suggesting courses of action etc.

I have a 20" alum iMac and its 100% perfect.
