I notice alot of you have 4GB ram, i only have 2 and never noticed any slowdowns, what advantage would 4GB give you over 2GB ?

See for yourself - "The numbers speak for themselves. Increasing the RAM in your computer is by far the best performance boost you can do to your system. Even increasing the RAM in your computer to just 2GB makes an incredible difference over the factory stock amount of RAM, especially when running more than one application."

At $100 for a matched 4GB kit, you can't go wrong....

I'm buying it brand new from an independent company (14 day return policy)

It comes with 1 year Apple guarantee as you would expect. If i get any problems with it, such as a dead pixel or unwanted shutdowns... will Apple exchange it for me?

Thanks

As far as i'm aware Apple will replace it once no questions asked.

Needless to say after reading all the internet reports on how bad the screen are I was nervous but I recived my 24" Imac yesterday and there is not a hint of any screen gradient, backlight bleeding or dead pixels. I am guessing that they have improved the screens on the most recent builds (mine came with leopard pre installed).

If you are thinking of ordering a new 24"imac my advice would be to upgrade the hard drive to ensure it is a newer build machine.

It really is something else by the way. Gorgeous.

no problems

my iMac froze ONCE
and I was never able to repeat it despite trying pretty hard
nothing wrong with it at all

so no
my iMac is not a dud

I got a 24" aluminum 2.4ghz iMac a couple weeks ago and its been perfect! I've barely used my MacBook since, and when I do the screen looks so tiny and dark! I keep hitting the brightness button thinking its been turned down but its at the brightest! It just doesn't compare to the iMacs screen (which I keep on the lowest brightness setting and its still plenty bright).

No humming snoring freezing or condensation issues either.

Mine is amazing the only real problem i've had is the disc drive not spitting out a burned dvd, which scared the crap outa me, but the solution is restart and while restarting hold down the mouse button, if anyone is wondering.

I had to exchange my first alu iMac today because of that loud annoying hum that wouldn't stop when I tried to lower the brightness. That particular iMac was assembled in China. The new one I received today was assembled in the USA and so far, it's as quiet as a mouse, no annoying hum at all. I'm just hoping that no other problems come up. :)

I'm happy to hear the replacement machine solved your problems but are you sure it says "assembled in the USA" (and not just say "Designed in California" as all Macs do)? I can't remember the last time I heard of an iMac actually being manufactured in the USA. I've heard that sometimes they reissue refurbished Macs with new serial numbers in Sacramento and I guess if that was the case it might show as "Made in the USA". Aside from that I thought it was either Shanghai or Cork, Ireland now.

Anyway, my iMac was assembled in Shanghai and has been flawless thus far.

I returned one

I got a 20' Aluminum ,
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
the screen had that fading effect, gradient effect...so I returned.
I can't use that for graphic design...cozz I couldn't see solid colors..

these machines run hot? I think thats normal, because they are so thin....

I want to buy a 24' now , but I'm afraid to get a faulty machine.
I will maybe get the previous model, the white mac..NOt sure yet

I ordered my first imac on dec. 7, It arrived on the 12.
the box also said "Assembled in the USA"

Mine was a dud.

After 3 weeks of pure pleasure our 24" stopped working completely. In the middle of a customer photo presentation no doubt. Had to fire up the old p4 laptop much to my dismay.
Apple store initially said it was a controller board issue. They would transfer the HD to a new machine and it would be ready in a couple of days.
Phone call a day later said that couldn't be done as the HD is bad.

Logic board and HD broken? Not likely....

Actually after much discussion it appears it was an HD after all.
However we wanted to keep the bad drive for recovery purposes, just in case. (we are fully backed up just never 100% confident)
They indicated we could take delivery of a new mac with new drive or the old mac with the old drive.

Sounds to me like they are not allowed to open iMacs at the apple store.
They indicated their diagnostics are performed via firewire interface from another mac lol.

Needless to say we now have a new iMac with same specs that replaces the DUD we purchased 3 weeks ago. Turnaround was 2 days which is impressive however I wonder what happens when the Apple Store doesn't have any replacements in stock?

And it gives me no reassurance this one also won't die.

But the difference in power vs the G4 laptop is laughable. We will put up with the growing pains and depend on Apple Care to pull us through.
Still a little po'd about the release of the bad drive for possible recovery attempt. Fingers crossed and anger shelved.

Good deal. If brand new machines are coming labelled that way that settles it. I guess they're assembling some iMacs stateside again. Thanks for the info.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble and you get a chance I'd be curious as to what CoconutIdentity Card displays as the location of manufacture.

Great. How are my kids supposed to get their recommended daily allowance of lead? I've got a 20" 2.4 iMac sitting in a box, inside a shipping box, wrapped in blankets to be opened this Sunday. Gift from the grandparents. Ordered it from Amazon. I wonder if Leopard is installed?

I just tried CoconutIdentity Card. It's showing "Unknown",even if i type the serial in by hand.
CoconutIdentity is showing a build date between 26.11.2007 and 02.12.2007

Oh Leopard was already installed.

How would you fix a burnt or stuck pixel?
My buddy has one green one when he shows the black screen on pixel checker....
He has the 20 inch by the way..
I have the new 24" and no problems here.....
)
