Yup, and Apple knows this which is why they will keep the ****** screens on non-Pro models even though they could easily make them better across the entire line.

I notice the difference on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. It’s smooth if I scroll MR, but not at all with Low Battery mode turned on (becomes 60Hz).

Having said that, I don’t care. I look, but don’t focus or try to read while the screen is scrolling quickly, and would only do so when the scrolling slows down.

For what it's worth, I probably wouldn't have noticed if I were going from an older Air to the new Air, but it is very noticeable going from a 3rd generation pro with Pro-motion after 4+ years, and seeing them side by side, I immediately noticed it. At first I thought it was because of all the apps updating in the background.

I'll eventually (hopefully) get used to it as I can't justify the extra $350 for a smooth scroll. Hell, for an extra $80 I can get a Series 9 watch also. I tested a couple of games and videos and I didn't really notice it much there. Its mainly on scrolling web pages, or the main screens. It's a nice iPad and an upgrade in processor over what I had. I was mainly wanting to get into the M series family, and i got better wifi, better front camera. The other features of the new Pro aren't a necessity for me personally. I don't use it for photos, for speakers/mic I am usually plugged in with my AirPods, and the thunderbolt... well, not sure I'll use that. Overall it's a great pad, the Air 13in. Maybe in a year I'll upgrade to the pro and have that WOW feeling again.

If ‘compromising’ the speed my screen refreshes when I’m scrolling web pages means I get to pay £799 for a 13” iPad, instead of £1299, I’m ok with that.

Yeah, the Pro has other advantages, but if they make product ranges too similar, then prices go up for the Air’s and people like me on a limited budget don’t get to enjoy a bigger screen.

Choice is good.

Very true. If you don’t want to have to buy the most expensive iPads from now on, don’t spoil yourself with ProMotion.

And now that I’ve sprung for an M4, I’m never going to be able to downgrade from OLED either. Which incidentally is not only way better with contrast, color, and brightness, but is also way better with scrolling. The super fast response time of the pixels combined with ProMotion far outclasses ProMotion with the mini-LED display of the prior models, which many have described as laden with motion blur.
