RCS, the new home screen and settings layouts, and some apps being revamped (such as Photos) are great for me.

I truly could not care less about "AI," ChatGPT, etc. I hate this garbage and I am tired of it being shoehorned into everything. It makes everything cumbersome and more difficult at great climate and computing cost.

Some people are legit impossible to please. This guy is one of them. This update is so huge for iOS.

What so huge about this update. Some of these updates were so overdue and it is kind funny people cheering on Home Screen enhancement.

And these AI crap requiring iPhone 15 Pro, making this upgrade huge for small set of people.

Seriously, Apple only doing this to catch up on Android. iPhone’s sale is in declining, especially in Asia market. They do this just to make sure no further decline.

Sure, they were overdue, but now here, which makes it a huge update. All the things added in this update, how can one say it’s not big. Who cares if it’s only for iPhone 15pro or better, buy a new phone.

LOL. Home Screen enhancement has been in Android for over decades. Someone gets exciting on ability to put icon anywhere is beyond me.

You can do this with MacOS, Windows, Android or just about any other OS.

And certainly, I can buy new phone and it will not be iPhone.

Why do you keep mentioning Android? If you’re so enamored by what the Android platform has, why not go get one, enjoy it and stop being a wise guy on an Apple forum? I mean if you aren’t happy with Apple, you have a choice not to use their devices.

I do have Android and I am daily driving Pixel 7 along with iPhone 12 Pro Max.

See, if you get excited in thing I got excited decades ago, the good for you. I still maintain my opinion that iOS 18 is boring update.

If iOS 18 is such huge update and it comes from Apple, iPhone XS and XR will get cut for sure. The fact that A12 devices get one more update, is pretty telling that iOS 18 isn’t such ground breaking update

Interestingly everywhere it says 8 GB is required to run AI - Ok...

...but what with all the other apps usually running on your phone? If you want to use your phone the same way you are "used to", you'll have to have additional 8 GB only for AI or the phone is constantly "swapping" memory?

...like the 8 GB macs extremely short on memory?

The 16 pro’s should come with the same 16gb of ram that the higher tired iPad pros do.

This is actually the most exciting year for Apple software, for me, in a long time. I haven't been this excited in years.

Lots of "finally!" features and good QoL improvements. I'm now just worried about how buggy it's going to be because they added so much new stuff. I'd update to the beta right now on my iPhone/Watch/MacBook if i could. I don't want to wait until September or even July lol.

We're not getting 16GB RAM in the iPhones lol. At least not this year and probably not next year. AI will happily eat all the RAM you can throw at it ... if it's demanding enough. Apple Intelligence seems to be quite a small LLM and if it can run on 8GB then it's very weak / efficient.

You also need to think about the storage size of models too. I guess Apple Intelligence is going to be <10GB in size. If they want a more powerful LLM they need to make it LARGER and they can be in the hundreds of GBs or multiple TB. The reason ChatGPT is run off device is because it's anywhere between 600GB - 7TB.

What so huge about this update.
This update actually has a lot more changes than usual. It's sounds like you may have gotten yourself overhyped for something specific/to be wowed which is always a recipe for disappointment.

Long video here, but you can skim it if you're genuinely curious:

Yep. Lots to like. I’d say Apple intelligence specifically is very underwhelming however.

They technically did not deny this. If iPhone mirroring isn’t available on iPadOS, though, I will be disappointed.

Really hoping that it’s just the on-device stuff that’s so limited. Cloud-based interactions should be available on all supported devices, imo.

For now, it’s on A17 Pro and M series processors.

Per the footer:
* Apple Intelligence will be available in beta on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with M1 and later, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English, as part of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia this fall.

Some features, additional languages, and platforms will be coming over the course of the next year.
No firm promises have been made yet however.

Not to mention beta 2 and 3 tend to add quite a lot of changes from beta 1.

RCS, satellite messaging and the ability to customize or remove the lock screen icons alone make this a big update for me. Perhaps I can discontinue my inReach subscription, if I upgrade to a satellite-capable iPhone.

The AI stuff is exciting for a lot of people..I don't personally care anything about it, and will probably disable it, but I can see why many would want it.
