Can't imagine needing more than 256 with external media now working with ipad
Depends on the data being stored. I don't know how large my complete Comixology library is but I'm sure it's in the TB and thus far, I don't think that's allowed on external storage on iOS. My non-Comixology manga collection is around 2TB.

Besides, while you can watch videos hands-free, having a flash drive or portable SSD protruding or dangling from the USB-C port is uncomfortable while reading.

I don't need to carry my entire library with me but I do like having a bunch of different reading choices available on hand. I need at least ~150GB for manga and another ~200GB for comics (favorites + reading list).

No new ipads coming from China for at least 6 months. My opinion only, but I cannot see them getting manufactured whilst China is shut down.

We’ll see. But I wouldn’t hold my breath. Especially considering all the hold ups in the supply chain and corona virus.
I’m waiting for a new work PC and this week the delivery changed from 12th Feb to 10th March because of corona virus shutdowns.

I bought my 11” iPad Pro 1TB a couple of weeks ago, knowing they may refresh it this Fall, but I could not wait that long. I needed something with more storage and more portable than a laptop (and cheaper than an all maxed out laptop), so I went with what I have. I don’t regret it, even though it came out late-2018. I bought it brand new and it works exactly like I need it to. In the end, the choice is up to you and what you would want. The only Apple device I am making myself wait for is the new iPhone - I haven‘t owned an iPhone since the 5 came out. I’ve been Samsung since 2012, so I figured it’s time for a change.

To me, purchasing this iPad now was the best choice and it turned out to be a great buy. I am happy with it :)

Probably in a small minority here, but I bought my 12.9 2015 on day one and it is still so solid I can’t imagine upgrading until iOS upgrades are no longer available. I love Touch ID over face recognition and all my accessories still work fine. Just can’t get excited personally, but I totally understand your situation and would be impatient too! :)

I am in the same boat. I have a 1st Gen 12.9 iPad Pro that I use DAILY for work. The keyboard is no longer reliable (not recognized as an Apple accessory even tho it is an Apple keyboard), the battery life is suffering, the screen sensitivity to touch is shot. I really need to upgrade. Fingers crossed for March.

I am really torn apart. I’d like to buy the current 12.9 iPad Pro, but I can’t bring myself to buy an almost 16 month old product.
Yet, if they don’t release it by March, I don’t think I can keep my old iPad as my main driver much longer...

Me as well. Same issue with the keyboard and battery. Otherwise OK-ish.

I kept my iPad plugged in more often than not, rarely ever letting it drop be;ow 20% charged. Strange paranoia I guess. But by doing so, after 4-1/2 years of at least six hours daily use, my battery is at 92% health. I think I just got a super-healthy tablet!

The 2nd Gen 12.9. BUT, the touch sensitivity is broken and many, many times it won’t respond correctly to touch.

Same here. My got replaced under warranty and this one does the unresponsive screen thing too.

I’m waiting, And they’d better get it right this time, or even more of us will jump ship.

the thing to remember it’s the software that matters. bought my 12.9 last year and this year won’t be massive. a years processor won’t make a difference. we need more creative cloud apps

I have the previous 12.9”, and most of what I’m hearing wouldn’t tempt me. But, the rumors of a new keyboard are pretty compelling to me, and if it’s significantly improved I would consider replacing the iPad just to get the new keyboard.

I’ve argued this as well. i’m almost wondering if Apple will release a beastier iPad than the last version to set up “real” pro apps in iOS 14, like XCode and Final Cut Pro and the like. (This may be somewhat crippling to my 2015 oPP which worries me, but i don’t code nor edit movies.)

You can get really good deals on a 12.9 3rd gen. Wait till March but you can’t go wrong with the 2018 mode. It’s super fast and future proof.

Exactly it’s like we have super car iPads but we don’t have a race track to take advantage of the power

I’m looking to buy one as soon as I sell my iMac. I don’t use it for anything other than playing one video game- on/off.
Will the price of the current gen drop? Estimate on how much?

I often get touch and brightness issues with my 2nd gen 12.9. Doing a basic settings reset tends to fix it for a few weeks but it’s annoying. (i also have light bleed on the right side)

I‘m hoping Apple will acknowledge the issues with the 2nd gen iPP12.9 and repair it. But if (when) they do nothing then I’ll probably get the 2020 12.9. It’s tough to justify re-investing $1300 into a machine that does almost nothing different than the 2017 models. But I really want an iPad where “It Just Works”.

Have you tried clearing RAM from the lock screen? (not sure if this will work on 2ND gen iPad though.

1. Start by unlocking your iOS device. That means the display will be lit, and either the home screen or an app can be showing, but not the lock screen.
2. Hold down the power button until the “slide to power off” option appears on the device’s display.
3. Next, release the power button, and then hold down the home button for roughly five seconds.
