Yes, I see it.
You see this in your unit too?

I don’t know if I’d return it for that,
Yeah, seems like some kind of residue but very hard or even impossible to clean. Probably not returning for that but new unit should not have such marks.

A screen deformity, yes.
But it seems pretty much all are seeing this when they check in same way it, so probably not worth getting new MBA if they are like that. Not too keen with getting MBP either even it has better display but case just feels cheap to me in MBP (all these hollow sounds from keyboard and trackpad, plus worse speakers than Air).

I have the MBP, and it doesn’t sound “hollow.”

Also, it’s widely known that the Pro speakers are better.

I wouldn’t settle for a screen deformity.

And no, I don’t see any “halo” on mine. Mine really is perfect, in every way.

Not sure you test it the way I do but every MBP I tried has that and Air not.
This difference is often mentioned in this forum too.

Like for example here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ss.2269417/page-2?post=29357594#post-29357594

It is very noticeable if you can try both MBP and MBA at home.
Air is just more solid.

Also, it’s widely known that the Pro speakers are better.
I haven't seen that much elsewhere than specs, even in Notebookcheck tests Air usually scored better for speakers.
I tested Air 2018 and MBP 2019 side by side, very obvious difference. Sound is very tinny on MBP with almost no bass while Air is more pleasing and fuller sound with some bass too. Also my MBA M1 was huge improvement over my MBP 2019. Based on Ifixit teardowns the speakers have not changed during this time, so M1's are still based on the same speakers as before.

I wouldn’t settle for a screen deformity.
Yeah, but what can you do if all MBA's have that?

Did you try the "fog" test too? Depending on light, it may be hard to notice otherwise. Took me almost a week to notice for the first time but once noticed it, I find it easily under certain light and angle.
Is yours silver or space gray?

Mine is silver, and there is definitely no “halo.”

If I were you, I’d change it over at an Apple Store, so you can check the new unit there and then.

But it is not MBA (?), so maybe not even from the same factory. Mine is from C0 factory.

What Apple Store? Nothing closer that flight trip abroad away that I know of... :(
Anyway for the display quality issues (red tint or BLB), no shop is dark enough so that you could even test panel quality.
Not sure if halo shows up under those light either

3 MBA M1's....all great!
No red tint in full screen black image when view them in dark room with brightness 100% or very high? Could you take a photo of the screen so that we could see the first perfect ones in this forum, since I haven't seen one yet.
See this for more info: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/m1-macbook-air-black-uniformity-red-glow.2274365/

Do you see round halo around logo testing the way I described in any of your MBA's?

OK. Please post your findings in the thread about red glow. If you take a photo of your screens, please try with conditions mentioned in that thread and preferably using camera like iPhone X or newer (or what ever can capture enough detail).

Don't. You're better off not checking. If you do, you will most likely find some red tint and you either accept it or get frustrated by it.

If you can't see it in your usage conditions then don't worry about it.

But one may and most likely will notice them eventually in normal usage too but then it may be too late to change mind and return/exchange if it turns out one finds them annoying. That is something to consider.

I can't say with absolute certainty that I got a "perfect" unit, but I've run into no issues in terms of the actual hardware, display, etc. So far, this machine has handled everything I've thrown at it with relative ease, and I really like that, especially after dealing with the fossils we are required to use at work.

If it's bugging you the much, I'd say sent it off for a replacement.

Well every fault is bugging me but are you sure they are MBA M1's without red glow? I mean I have no interest taking my chances unless there is even no guarantee such panel is available right now.
As for the sticker residue or what ever that logo halo is, I rather live with it than take my chances since my unit does have straight body (not rocking on the table) and it does not have much "hammer and screwdriver residue", if you know what I mean. ;)

So far I have seen zero pictures of perfect black screen. Even ones that have claimed having one after testing it correct way have seen in and it shows in the photos (if following the correct way to test and photograph it (you cannot take a photo of screen displaying black in a room with any lights on)).

I look at my MBA very hard and I think I got a perfect one. 😄
So you do not have this red glow? Please check this thread and please take a photo of your screen in conditions mentioned it that thread (preferably use camera like iPhone X or never)? You are the first one telling you have a perfect screen so please provide info so all others suffering from red glow can consider if they should go for hunting perfect one too if there are those. Can you also please list your serial numbers first 2 and 5h character (factory code and manufacturing week)?

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/m1-macbook-air-black-uniformity-red-glow.2274365/

Mine does not have that either.

I'm not even gonna attempt to test that. I used to be in film business and my friend has a business setting up home theater and I have never seen a single perfect screen set up, period. Personally when I'm watching video or working and I push the brightness to the extreme and I don't see any thing odd, then it's perfect for me. Testing with white screen? Nah, I have $999 laptop, not $9,999 one lol.
You think $30,000 Sony monitor has 100% uniformity? Go see it again.

Well. I rest my case.
My point, you see was that you said you got a perfect unit and you have looked it hard so I assumed you really tested it in "hard" way. :)
So this question whether there are MBA M1's without red glow remains unsolved. So far there are those who have seen it, then those who first claim they have a perfect one but after testing it in the same way found there is red glow, and finally ones who say they have a perfect unit and they will not test it in certain way to make sure... Just making my point here, not saying there is anything wrong in any of these ways. :)

It will continue to bug you, so I'd exchange it if I were you.

Trust me, I've been there before.

My poor experience was with two Apple Watches, which both exhibited the same malfunction (a horrible hissing/white noise sound, during calls.) I took two back, and decided to let it be. These watches were bought online, so I assume they came from the same batch. If I were to buy another one, I'd buy it from a store, in the hope that it will be from a different, defective free batch.

It's a shame that you have no stores near you, but I'd roll the dice (just one more time) by sending it back and requesting a replacement. Or just send it back for a refund, and order another one: If you have the means to do so.

Trust me, I've been there several times and from what I have learned so far is this, rarely exchanged units are better, they either have another usually more serious issues, or they are just like the original one. I have exchanged some computer monitors for like 5 times only to learn that the original one was the best of them all. So once bitten twice shy, except I've been bitten countless times. :D

So far from input from others there are units with at least couple weeks difference in manufacturing date exhibiting the same issue, so I don't think it is just certain batch issue. Sure I would enter "vicious" display lottery if there were really proof that there are perfect ones. Until I hear from those and with needed test I don't think I try another MBA M1. Delivery times are so long at the moment, otherwise I would have probably ordered 1 or 2 more units and kept my current one until seeing new units, but so far estimated deliveries are so far away, I don't think I could keep the current one so long without losing possibility to return.

I actually look it hard, in a realistic way. I have turned up brightness a lot, 100% sometimes. If there's something odd I must have seen it by now.
There is no screen that's have 100% uniformity though, definitely not in $999 device range. Never seen professional tools that test that. They all test something else but good luck finding.

Hey bud, my 12 Pro Max, 2020 iPad Pro and M1 MacBook Pro all have perfect displays.

It’s the first thing I check.

Ive been lucky with my devices of recent. However, I’ve had a lot of bad luck in the past.

But have you actually tried that in a dark room with black or mostly black full screen image? It is hard or about impossible to see in lighter environment even if you know what the issue is exactly.

Do you use True Tone and/or Night Shift?
I like both and TT is always on and NS enabled later around 10PM.

Well sure you can find something to complain about every display but do there exists $999 device that has uniform black image without BLB or obvious different hue edges - answer is yes. I even now have Zenbook that cost much less than that with uniform display, but is lack even 100% sRGB let alone P3 gamut, it is much dimmer than MBA and so on, but it is uniform.
