I love my PowerBook G4 667(DVI). I'll get rid of it when there is absolutely nothing for me to run in OS9.

TEG

I use my PB G4 667 (VGA) almost everyday and it still works great. I run Tiger on it and it's still plenty fast. The best thing is that it still looks like a brand new notebook. You look at a 7 year old windows machine and it looks like a piece of junk. They are really thick and heavy. This is only 1" thick, has a beautiful wear resistant titanium case, and weighs just over 5 pounds.

No regrets here.

You are EEEEEEVVVILLLL!!!!! You make me miss my TiBook that I traded away 3 hours ago!

But, you're right, they are timeless. A girl in the library asked if that was the new MacBook air. No joke:D

I can understand being frustrated when a new model comes out the next day that means what you bought is now hundreds of dollars less expensive and you could have had something better for the same price. But barring that, everyone knows that a new model with better features is coming out eventually, so what these people are complaining about is beyond me. I think it has to do with how people relate to their computers. If the computer is a tool that serves a function, I don't think people react poorly to new models. If it's part of someone's identity to have the latest and greatest and the computer serves some psychological need on that front, I think you see more over-reaction. Of if people are just uninformed about the industry.

That said, I was never thrilled with my current computer, a G4 1Ghz eMac, bought for budgetary reasons in grad school. Never compared to the 500Mhz G3 iBook I had and was completely happy with until the screen died. I expect to be happy for a long long time with the Mac Pro I plan to buy soon.

i have no issues with my 'old' tech. it works for what i need it to and i buyit when i need it. end of story. i don't need the latest and greatest, its nice to have every now and then, but there will always be something new around the bend.

the only justified complaint is if you've bought something in the last two weeks or so that just gets updated. thats frustrating to no end imo.

I'm happy with my iMac G5. I got it two months before the intel ones came out and I have my 60 gig 5G iPod that I got a few months after it came out and don't plan on replacing it till it breaks.

Last gen iBook G4 right here. MacBook? Leopard? No thank you. Not until this baby can no longer be resuscitated. (Or maybe if I can find the 12' PowerBook...) It still works fine, why would I need a new one?
Oh and I went from my mini to a 3gen regular, think that counts too ;)
Good thread idea; I hate how people are constantly saying "Ok I want a word processor, Internet browser, email program, maybe a little Photoshop and /or games. Should I get this rev. MacBook or wait?" Urgh. It kills me. What's almost worse is my HS filling up with MBs (mostly, though one or two Pros) and the people who buy them DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THEM. It is terrible. I had to tell a guy to hit enter on a widget so that it could search for the name of the ski resort.

I love my "obsolete" Apple products. I use my 15" PB G4 daily, and my CD mini is a workhorse. I do plan on upgrading to a MBP, but mainly because I want to consolidate things to a single machine. My U2 iPod serves my needs just fine, but I'll likely sell it off when I get an iPhone sometime in the next year.

Every time Apple releases an upgraded hardware product, a flood of complaints wash over us from people who have the previous model. Apparently, their model is now "obsolete" and therefore useless. They got months (or years) of use out of it but they still regret not waiting for the new model, simply because it's better or has features they are now "missing."

What about the opposing viewpoint? People who are content with their purchases have less reason to speak up, but I'd like to hear from them.

If you have a Mac, iPod, or other Apple gizmo that is inferior to the current lineup, but you have no regrets about buying it, please tell us why.

I loved and still love my G4 books. They are rock solid, quiet, have more spunk and power than I need, and have not acted up over the years. They just work, indeed. As time went on I did know I needed to get something in the house with current architecture and the MBs and MBPros had not connected with me. Didn't like the plastic of the MB, liked the MBPro's look and spec but the weight was in the wrong direction since I had noticed I favored my 12" powerbook over the 15" one.

Now I have bought the MacBook Air, love it, and don't plan to spend a second screaming or crying if Apple rolls out the vaunted 12" MBP tomorrow afternoon. Apple's computers will probably be in my rear view window again now for awhile. If that makes Apple cry, which I doubt, that's tough! I think they're laughing all the way to the bank because I scarf up iPods on a much more regular basis. :)

By now Apple knows that I'll be back for a new machine after a few years; it's a pattern I've developed reliably enough since 1985. When the aging G4 books start to croak, I'll look at the iMac or whatever the MacBook Pro's then current offering is and get one of them for my main machine, keeping the Air as my true portable.

In order to insure a lack of regret, one must never buy any currently available product. That is why I am typing this post on a Smith-Corona typewriter.

But with that new IBM Selectric you could use the correction key and give up using Wite-Out!

I have none. I wanted a macbook pro, got it, a few months later the SR ones came out, and I laughed because they had yellow screens. However many months later, I'm still laughing because I know that no matter how much faster the soon-to-b-released macbook pros are, I won't care, because my mac runs without any slowdown already!

But yeah, I sure do miss the old G4 style designs (cube, iMac) and even new iPod that came out around the same time!

I sort of regret buying my iPod Nano (1st Gen), because the day after I got it for my birthday, the 2nd Gen iPod Nano came out, with double the GB for a slightly cheaper price. Now the iPod Nano has 4 times more GB than my one, and it plays videos!

With my MacBook- it's still the current model, and even though the MacBook Air is out, I still have no regrets buying it. I do plan on keeping it for about 5 years (upgrading the memory to 4GB eventually). As long as it uses the current OS, it's still a good computer for me.

Count me in as another who doesn't regret their purchase. I have a 1.83 CD MBP which I bought a few months after they came out. I'll have it two years in March...by far the LONGEST I've ever owned a computer. You couldn't pry this thing from my hands if you tried!

I don't plan on purchasing another one until I see some significant speed bumps or the Apple Care runs out. I've got another year before that happens, so I'll be hanging tight with it.

Good to see there are a lot of us still in G4 land. I'm still happy with my PB G4 1.5 GHz, bought in the Spring of 2004. Don't know what I'd upgrade to if it died - chances are I'd just start using my son's old (non-intel) Mini, since he's on a new iMac.

Yep, another G4 Powerbook owner here--the 1.33 GHz 15" one. Which runs strangely faster since a kind soul sent me a 512 MB stick of RAM. ;)

I notice it is slower when I'm making DVDs of my son to send to my parents and sisters, but otherwise, it does everything I need it to. It's funny--when you're doing routine stuff I can't tell the speed difference between this and a new MBP--like Safari, Mail, etc.

I've never bought nor owned a brand new Mac, so no, I have no regrets I suppose.

I have a Single 1GHz G4 tower, that was originally a 400 MHz Sawtooth, that runs Tiger until I get something other than a Rage128 for Leopard.

Then I have my 2002 Quicksilver G4 Dual 1GHz, which has maxed out RAM, a Radeon 9000 Pro out of an MDD, SuperDrive, etc running Leopard.

I then have a Hackintosh and 2 PCs, for the really heavy processing jobs. :3

Still happy with my G4 iBook from 2005. I can't really upgrade it until Apple comes up with a 11-12" notebook that is lighter, has better screen than this and has at least 5 hours battery life.

G4 12" powerbook 1.5GHz and not a single regret. I intend to be buried with it. When my Ti died the 12" was a stop gap until the intel's came out. But it was love at first sight and I don't think we've spent more than a couple of days apart *love*.

I was a bit anxious to order my powerbook G4 almost 3 years ago since the G5 was rumoured for a long time. He arrived a few weeks before the wwdc in june or july the same year and no updates were announced. Instead Steve Jobs announced Apple was switching to Intel. A couple of months later there was the last update with the G4 processor. I still use that machine and I still love it.

You kids and your fancy computers

I still use my Mac Plus with system 6.0.8 running off of my zip drive, and I like it just fine. You guys with your fast processors and over 1 megabyte of ram, you're all spoiled! ;)

In persona non grata
Ya know it's funny.

I wanted Macs for my kids, and did not want to spend a lot of $$$$$$.

I bought two obsolete Macs for them, and we all could not be happier.

In fact I am in the market for more obsolete Mac gear .... like maybe a late model G4 iMac.

They love their obsolete G4 Powermacs.

In my opinion, anyone who get upset because an upgraded model of what they own comes out has psychological issues! :p:p:p

I'm the same.

I have a 20" Intel CD iMac, a CD Blackbook, and a 1st gen iPod Nano. All working along fine and doing the job the were purchased for. ( Though the iPods battery is getting suspect.)

I recently purchased a G3 iMac Snow and an iBook Clamshell for various reasons; the kids, play with older Mac OS', and just because they look neat.

I don't get this idea that something is obsolete just because it isn't the latest and greatest. When it gets to the point that it cannot do something I need it to do, then it's obsolete.

I was perfectly happy with my 15" 1.25GHz Powerbook when I bought my current iMac to make video work easier - and planned on keeping it as a 'travel/sofa/bed' Mac till it died. Now it's been nicked so someone else has the joy of it... but not sure when/what I'll replace it with. The Macbook Pro is overkill with the 24" iMac and the Macbook is just kinda 'meh' and the Macbook Air just isn't portable enough!
