Anyone moved from an MBP 15" to a MBA 13"? My biggest concern is screen real estate. Does is feel cramped, or not that big a difference?

13 mba high res is great compared to 15 mbp

just answered my own question (I think). Earlier in this thread someone noted that both the MBP Pro 15 and the MBA 13 have the same resolution (1400x900). So that means there is the same amount of real estate? That's what it looked like to me, except everything is a little bit smaller. Meaning that, for example, the same typeface in Word, at the same type size, will appear smaller on the MBA 13, but there is in fact, the same amount of real estate. Correct?

I have considered selling my 2010 15" MBP for a 13" air. But I really want the ultra-portability of the 11", and the 13" doesn't have the graphics power I need when I am at my desk working on video.

So I am going to keep my MBP for at least the next year or so and use it as my "desktop" until I replace it with an iMac in the future. Maybe the model after Ivy Bridge. Or maybe with a future model MBP.

Fwiw, I'll have no problem switching from my late 2009 mbp 13" to the 11" I just got today ;)
The higher screen resolution (and some lion goodies) make it totally usable. Its cpu performance feels roughly the same, but it's much snappier and it makes the mbp look really bulky and somehow ugly...No overheating issues, no loud fans...compared to the absolutely terrible experience I had with the 2009 mba (exchanged for the mbp), I must say I'm very pleasantly surprised ! It will be a classic in apple's history, imo : small, light, beautiful and powerful !

To give you guys an idea of what you can expect... I sold a 2009 17" MBP with 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo processor on EBay for about $1350 2 weeks ago.

I think I'm gonna do the same. I recently sold my original 11", and now with the new CPU tests being so good, I'm probably going to sell my late-2009 (unibody) MBP17 after I get a new MBA 11. But I do plan to replace the MBP with a Sandy Bridge model a few months later when I have some more spending money. Right now I need the portability of the 11 more than I need the huge display on the 17... though I sure like that big display. :)

Debating selling mine. It's hard to part with the 1920x1200 display and 8GB RAM considering that I do lots of photo editing. I'd like to get an MBA for the portability.

I suppose I could pick up an external display for video editing. For the price I'd pay for it, I could just keep my Pro while having the MBA.

Decisions, decisions...

I considered replacing my 13" 2011 MBP for the 13" i5 air, but I think I changed my mind after seeing them in the Apple Store.

First of all, while the screen resolution is noticeably amplified on the air, the color gamut is also much lower. The screen really does look washed out. I read the threads regarding the Samsung and LG screens, and even the Samsung ones failed to impress.

The 4GB RAM limit on the air was another reason why I will probably keep my MBP, although that was hardly a deciding factor.

Unlike most, I find the MBP, specifically the 13 inch model, to be better looking than the air. I dislike the teardrop shape, but I love the low weight of it. For one reason or another, I find the evenly shaped Macbook Pro much...sexier? I don't know how to explain it, but it's just more symmetrical in my uncommon opinion.

Looks like I will be looking for an SSD for my Pro to match the air's responsiveness. I will also be carrying a laptop that is 1.5lb's heavier.

I also have the 2011 MBP and I am considering selling it for the new MBA. For me the weight is much better and "teardrop" shape to me is better because my arms can lay naturally on a table instead of up like the MBP. Plus knowing I have that much power in such a small laptop rocks :)

I also walked into an Apple store today with the intent of buying a 13 inch Air to replace my 2009 13 inch Macbook pro but immediately noticed the washed out screen. I absolutely loved the snappiness of the Air but I think most of that can be attributed to the SSD so I too will be looking into getting an SSD for my Pro. I also like the black border around the screen on the Pro because it seems to make the colors pop out more. Sigh... the low weight and thinness were really appealing but I guess I'll wait for the next refresh where they hopefully get a decent screen into the Air.

I am actually selling my 27" 2010 imac home office computer, replacing it with my 2010 15" MBP(hooking up 2 monitors to the MBP) as my home office computer, and replacing the MBP with a new MBA 13 Ultimate as my travel/work computer. My 15" 2010 MBP gets a bit heavy to lug around these days on work trips.

The 27" iMac is just too dang big and too dang hot for my liking and I have already had to replace the display on it due to the smudging effect they are notorious for.
The MBP will remain at the house and will do a fine job at being my home computer.
Got the MBA 13 Ultimate(1.8 i7) tonight and it is a stellar computer so far. I have recompiled a few Xcode apps and done some light Photoshop work and its been smooth sailing so far. Happy camper here.

Just out of curiosity what are you selling it for? I sold my 2010 base MBP 13" for $800. A 2011 should still easily fetch about $1000 on the resale market. A 15" I would say easy $1500-1800 depending on the specs. Just look at the refurb market on Apple.com and it will give you a good idea of what you can get for yours. GL with the sale and I hope you can get your MBA soon.

Anyone have any opinions on selling an early 2008, white MacBook? It's the base model with stock options (120GB HD and 1GB memory). AppleCare is ending on July 26th, so it's not gonna be a selling point. I know this isn't gonna fetch too much money, but what price would be decent? Or should I just upgrade the HD and RAM for an easier sell?
