Great post! Echos a lot of my thoughts. I have no problem with Apple, in fact I think most of their products are great, but other companies make great products as well.

I don’t have my Note yet so I don’t exactly have answers for your questions. I created a post recently about a cross device household. Some advice in there. Personally I think some combination of FB messenger (even though I don’t have FB) Samsung/google photos links, Smoothsync, and Skype/Duo will cover my bases, but will see how it goes in practice. Just picked up a Fitbit Versa today to test it against my Apple Watch.

It’ll all work through AirPlay but you can’t say “Hey Siri, play music from Spotify” you can only do that with Apple Music. Kind of makes the HomePod pretty expensive if you can’t even do that.

Exactly. I can use them if I play music from my MacBook Pro, and use them with my Apple TV. However, now that the Sonos includes AirPlay 2, it does the same thing as well, and can stream Spotify natively. In fact, I think the Sonos shows up in the list of devices in the Spotify app, though I could be wrong about that.

I can use them through the end of the month and then sell them. I should be able to fetch 500 for the pair.

Yeah, but Apple will never do that because from the beginning, Steve Jobs said that is why humans have a finger. They don't need a stylus. Either way, Apple said back then they would never make a phone with a stylus of any type.
I don’t see what Steve Jobs has got to do with producing iPhones in the current market? The guy has been dead 7 years and the products have evolved so much in the meantime. I don’t know why people here think he is some kind of everlasting god and what he once said is like a religious script?

He was good for his time and gave Apple a great direction to follow. He was also a bit of a nob at times and made mistakes. Time to return to 2018.

Steve Jobs was also a real a hole who treated his daughter like sh*t. He was a terrible father and really pathetic in many aspects of his life. It is of no coincidence that that he is no longer alive. Funny how his own daughter would give the family fortune to the Gates foundation if she could. You have self centered a holes in this life and those who strive to help others. Jobs was not someone who strived to help others.

Yeah, I don’t buy all this rubbish about what Jobs and Apple said “Back then”. Didn’t he say a 3.5” screen was big enough? Times change.

So I guess a little update on my Note 9 experience. I've had it since the 22nd.

I really like it a lot. Everything works really well, and I don't really miss the ecosystem. (iPhone + Macbook + cMP). The family iMessage group thread is a bit of a mess now but it's not that bothersome. Playing Spotify works well from either Bixby or Google Assistant, and retro player is awesome for local files. Pictures are fantastic and super slow mo is awesome. S Pen is very useful. Battery is superb. I threw a dome screen protector on it, and the marble dbrand skin. It feels amazing in hand.

Due to my personal opinions on privacy I've disabled a lot of Google's software (not all) - assistant is uninstalled/turned off and all tracking is disabled through Google's MyActivity page. I've left some settings on like Youtube History and I still use Chrome, Gmail and have yet to disable Google Photos. The wonderful thing about Android is having so much choice in terms of software you can make default. I can use the software that I want as default and it's awesome.

My iPhone 7 is upstairs, with a dead battery and I've turned it on once since getting my Note 9. That was to check for apps that I may have forgotten about. It's not very long but 2 weeks in and I'm happy with the phone and don't have much of a desire to go back to Apple. The new iPhone's don't seem to be offering much in terms of features and iOS 12 wasn't very exciting. Everything works great with my Mac because macOS is the only platform Apple makes that is semi-open.

For people on the fence, I'd wait until Sept. 12th to see if Apple has any surprises. But if all goes according to rumors I'd recommend giving the Note 9 a good try. If anyone has any questions about the phone feel free to ask.

Do yourself a favor and install Samsung's Good Lock 2018 app. It's only in the Galaxy App Store.

I've played with it, and honestly haven't found much use for it. But that's just me.
I had a couple of things I wanted to remove from the status bar, so I did that. I also set up a Bluetooth routine. It's pretty light on features other than small things like that.

I was super excited for the new iPhones next week but this Note is giving me pause. I'm not choosing between either one, planned on owning both. But the more I use this thing, I may hold off on the iPhone until the end of the year. I've always loved the Note line, and this one might be my favorite since the 5.

How long have you been using it?

Just a day or so, but I'm a longtime Note fan. It's like owning a specific brand of car - you know exactly how it's supposed to run and can compare newer models to old ones you've driven.

With the money that I got from selling an iPad Pro and several iPhones and an Apple Watch, I took the money and ordered a Note 9 today. I'll have it tomorrow.

I'm still going to use my Note 8 on my second line and I'll hang on to my S9+. I have no plans on buying this years iPhones. They just don't excite me like the S series and Note line does each year. I get that wonderful feeling that I used to get on Christmas when I was a kid when I'm waiting for my new Samsung to be delivered. It's been many years since I got excited about an iPhone release.

I bought my first Note with the Note 4 and Note Edge (yes I bought both) and then with the Note 5 and Note 8. I skipped the Note 7 that year.

I feel the same way, I installed it and changed the colours of stuff and messed with all settings but in the end I just uninstalled it. Didn't feel it really added to my experience and was slightly confused why it's so highly praised.

That's just me.

I only use Good Lock to remove a couple of status bar icons, change the task switcher to a horizontal card layout and set up a Bluetooth routine. It's not like it's super packed with features, but it's useful for a few tasks that the core OS otherwise won't allow for. Not everyone will find a use for it.

I see your point, but I think Steve Jobs has everything to do with the current iPhone. The idea was his, and for me when the first iPhone came out it was so different than anything else. Since that time it has been refined and updated, but its still the same basic idea.

The phone has not so much "evolved" as it has been "refined".

Apple will continue to milk his idea for several more years. Because there is nothing new creatively speaking. Just tweaks and refinements. Not that updates are a bad thing. But it doesn't hurt to look outside the walled garden at times.
