just ordered a refurb base M4 off apple for $1269. they used to be around $1350. my 2011 badly needs replacing, and with the M6 promising great things, i think this is a great option to tide me over and transition into the M-series with one year warranty, apple care possibility, current security, and other benefits. i had it shipped to a tax free store in NH, so saved that as well.

I won't be upgrading any time soon. My 14" M1 MB Pro still feels blazing fast to me. I have BetterDisplay installed so I can get the full brightness and it's still extremely bright.

Base M4 MBP is a great laptop. I got one in April and am extremely pleased. The screen, battery life, ports and 512 GB storage is well worth the premium over the base M4 Air.

Very fast and capable. Hope you like it.

Due in early next week. I’ll bring my 2011 and have them migrate everything over. I’ll have to shop around for some contemporary cables, maybe a disc burner, case , etc.

i guess im the only one. purchased the m5 a couple of days ago and trading in my m3pro. total cost was $850. my m3pro is great but its out of warranty now and i like having new stuff.

Decided to go for it - coming from a 15” M3 MBA. Looking forward to the brighter better screen and longer battery life.

This is shaping up to be a pretty minor upgrade. M4>M5 is minor, also new form factor is coming.
As for me, I predict to upgrade my M1 16" by the time M7 or M8 is out.

I'm not buying another Macbook until Tim fires everyone from Design department. It's 2025 and ugly brick from 2000s with a notch still stands. For my Xcode development a minimal M1 with old design is enough. I do videos on my Windows PC because why even bother doing video projects on 256 SSD? Actually I do a lot of stuff on my Windows PC through Parsec including gaming. Macbook nowdays is more of a terminal. Not worth to pay more than 1000$ for it.

So most of your complaints have to do with your personal tastes (opinion) or the configuration you purchased rather than actual issues with the Mac itself. An external SSD is cheap enough and fast enough to make your 256GB gripes irrelevant, and the Mac would likely run circles around the Windows PC you're using while using less power and running significantly quieter. Also why would you need to use Parsec if you already have a Windows PC?

It's not personal taste. It's a matter of pointless purchases Apple fans are known for. As of now there is no need for people to invest a cent more than a used basic M1 machine UNLESS they are doing LLMs. All other scenarios for 99% of people M1 will handle just fine. The scenarios where Macs suck (gaming) will be handled by Windows, in my case through Parsec on LAN, because the latency is minimal and I basically have 2 computers in 1 - silence of Apple Silicon and power and flexibility of Windows.

The design became uglier since then. Unfortunately the Mac OS became buggier as well. Apple stopped knowing where to go with its laptop lineup many years ago.

It is great offer - will upgrade if my MacBook Pro 14 inch M1 Pro fails or Battery Health is low - but otherwise no reason. I prefer to sell the device and do an upgrade instead of getting battery replacement.

It's good that the latest chip is available for people who need a first/extra/replacement Apple Silicon Mac now - but it doesn't look like a compelling upgrade from an existing AS Mac - certainly not from M3/M4.
