On the iUP so I have had a new one every year since the iPhone 7 (7, X, Xs, 11 Pro). The monthly price has remained almost the same through from the X to the 11 Pro so why not upgrade every year?

I also do not drink, smoke, or do drugs so gadgets are my 'vice.'

How boring! These are a much better use of money :p

Used to upgrade every year when it was still fun, and iPhones were cheaper and aged way quicker. Since the 6 more like every 2 years. Feel like I’ll be keeping the XR for 3-4 though as I like it so much and well, coral. iPhones I’ve had

I had every iPhone up until the year of the X. I bought the 8+ that year, so I didn’t have the X. I got the XR the next year and the 11 this past fall. So I have upgraded every year, but have not had every phone. I did try the XS max, and recently the 11 pro, but OLED doesn’t seem to agree with me.

I am now using the SE2, considering the 5.4 for the fall, but really enjoying this phone enough that idk if I’ll make the switch.

Started with the 3GS, had every iPhone except the 7 and 11 series, hopefully upgrade this year from my xs max, depending if I like what I see. 👀📱

Me too except I bought the X and returned it to get the 8. Reason was because of the X not comfortably pocketable. Then then the 11 Pro came out got that too and returned it and went back to the 8. Same reason not comfortably pocketable.

See a pattern here? Went back to the form factor that was the most comfortably pocketable and best for 1 hand use.

Waiting to see how the 12 5.4 is. I normally pre order but this time I’m going to wait.

I never upgraded every year saw no reason too minor improvements hard to justify i did upgrade every 2 years what was then the "S" model but i stopped after the 6S again was hard to justify the cost for the improvement i did finally upgrade to the 8 and now own the SE 2020 model i seriously doubt i'll upgrade again anytime soon still using a Series 2 watch it works fine may look to upgrade once they announce the next series

LOL and I remember getting the 6, and a girl in line with me saying I was nuts for not getting the plus. I remember telling her I thought it was too big. I wound up getting the plus a short time later, and then from there, I stayed with that size. I always looked longingly at the 8s when I’d go into the Apple store after getting the XR because they still had it out there for sale.

I think that’s why, when the SE2 came out, I just decided to go for it. I know some definitely consider it a step backwards because of losing the full screen, Face ID, and a few other things, but IDK - it still felt so familiar to me to use Touch ID, and the size is refreshing after using big, heavy phones for so long.

When I got the 8+ over the X, it was because I didn’t really wanna go to a Face ID phone. Of course I made that leap with the XR, and Face ID is fine, but I have always really liked Touch ID a lot, so I was good going back to it.

I’m really trying to change my mentality to this. I am trying to remember that it’s really just a phone. Yeah I use the camera a lot, but the SE2 camera is fine for me. As long as I can make calls and text, and maybe play the occasional game, or read social media in the doctor’s office, I’ve got all I need. I don’t have to have the latest and greatest just because.

I use to never keep a phone longer than a year, starting with the 3310. 27 different phones later I have my iPhone X which I’ve had since May 2018. Still going strong and the only reason I’m going to change it this year is for the 5.4”.

The only reason i went from a 6S to an 8 was because it was at the time the best version of a Touch ID iPhone plus it had features i wanted like wireless charging and fast charging ok i had to buy the accessories but to me its a worth while investment as for upgrading to the SE2 partly because i wanted to future proof against updates and my partners 6 had died so gave me the excuse to upgrade!

I have never been bothered by Face ID or better camera or a bigger phone I can see myself keeping this phone for 5 years+ easy

Same goes for the Apple Watch series 2 i look at the Series 3-5 not much difference they all tell time alerts me to calls or texts and my heath activities i don't have apps installed on it or music just the basic stuff only reason im considering upgrading is that Series 2 won't support WatchOS 7 and even then does that matter? I doubt it

I do regret putting a cheap after market battery in the Mac White. I barely get 2 hours on battery but its not a great inconvenience I mostly use it static on the charger.

What’s a “Mac White “ and how does it relate to this topic?

Actually the 8 is the best out of that generation. Last of the great iPhone series.

I started with the original iPhone in 2007 and used it for two years. Then I upgraded every year for a while (3GS, 4, 4s, 5). Then I had the 6 for about a year and a half, then the SE for a year, and then this trusty 7 I’m typing on, which I’ve been using for almost 3.5 years.

the iPhone is a very mature product now, and models that are a year or two old are not noticeably worse than current models for most uses.

I don't, I usually keep my devices for a long time. But I can imagine it's exciting to own the newest iPhone each year.

I use to upgrade every year. After kids and buying a house this will be the first year of not upgrading. My 11 pro max is still holding up great. Just don’t see the need anymore

For me, every other yr... unless there's something really special. These days the upgrades are minimal. Not throwing 1k out the window for the 99% of the same thing.

Considering how much time I spend on my phone, and all the things I do with it, even modest improvements across the system (CPU, GPU, screen, camera, signal processor, neural engine, etc) yield, collectively, a better experience. And, as I said, since I'm on this thing constantly, that's worth the yearly upgrade to me.

1k a year? What do you do with your previous phone? Toss it in the garbage disposal? 😮 The previous year's phone goes a long way to offset the cost of the new phone. I get a brand new one on launch day every year, but I don't pay near full retail.

I think its more of an addiction.

That's possible, haha. :) Though, like I said, having a better experience every hour of every day throughout the entire year is worth the several hundred I pay for a new device every year.

Agree, but even $550 cost for 1 year, I cant justify giving Apple any money this year if the display I stare at 100% of the time isnt better- less notch or higher refresh rate. We have $400 phones doing these things better now

Cant justify another $1100 Apple phone if its anther year of same old. 5G does nothing for me, 5G is barely even supported in many areas still. Dont take many photos, and LIDAR has no practical use to me (probably most other than a toy a few times). A tiny internal spec bump isnt enough this year.

Too many companies are doing good stuff for even less money these days to ignore. Apple is going to have to start bending giving people what they want feature-wise. You're already are starting to see it on the OS side.

I think you are going to have a LOT of unimpressed people this year if the rumors hold true. People right now aren't going to jump at a $999+ purchase, even if its $50/month. Many people are making far less than they did this time last year and dont have that disposable cash anymore absent some big upgrade to be had.

Two years ago I bought the XR, but I just started thinking about maybe going back down to the SE. I'm not sure what the screen size is on the new SE, but yesterday for some reason my Battery on the XR went from 100 to 25 in four hours. I recharged it and it seems to be fine now but it was weird that was the first time I thought something was draining my battery. It's a still workable phone though so we'll see.

I doubt it will happen, but I really wish Touch ID would make a comeback. If we have to wear masks where ever we go, Face ID is kinda useless.

The trade up program with Apple kind of killed resale value on them. I do get a new one every year with the Apple Upgrade program. I do want to stop doing it. the cell phone companies usually give you better options on Black Friday. I have t-mobile so don't get the insane $250 off AT&T or Verizon like is seen every year. Sadly

If so many people will be disappointed with what Apple will announce this fall, that should give those who will upgrade no matter what, hopefully a higher chance of preordering and receiving their device on launch day. I’m going for the highest storage size if 256GB dates are pushed out.

I haven't upgraded since I bought my 8 Plus. There hasn't been a better phone from Apple since, IMHO. I'll consider an upgrade when the notch is gone.
