Who will be keeping their iPhone 12 series this year?

I’ve had my Pacific Blue 12 Pro Max since launch and I have to say, that I still love this device as if it was the first day I unboxed it. I love the color, the size and the weight of my phone. My Pro Max is also jailbroken on 14.1, so I know I’m missing out on the improvements after 14.1, but it’s still not enough to get me upgrade my software and phone. I didn’t watch WWDC, so I don’t know what Apple is bringing out in iOS 15, but I guess I’ll find out whenever I upgrade later in the year. Even though Apple will be launching new iPhones this year, I am sitting out upgrading this year and have 0 issues upgrading in 2022. Is anyone else planning on not upgrading this year?

I am on a yearly iPhone upgrade system and have been since my first iPhone which was the 6 Plus. I only like the big iPhones. There are too many year-over-year changes to miss on. Even when others lament no change, there is change they don't realize, frankly due to the fact they haven't compared them in person which makes their stance null and void.

I don't do Apple's upgrade program, I just do the trade in method and eat the difference, which usually isn't that much. And since I'm always trading in a year old phone or less, it's not a problem as I always get max trade in value for them.

I'm happy to go two, three, even four versions between new iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. But not iPhones!

I’ll probably stay with my 12 Pro. It’s a great phone and I also have the AT&T credits so don’t want to lose those.

I was going to do that last year, but didn’t want to pay device payments anymore in addition to my monthly bill, plus I’m making monthly device payments on my daughter’s 11, so I paid full price through Apple.

Since I learned last year that even on the upgrade program Apple does a hard credit check every year I have decided not to go with Apple’s upgrade program. I’d rather just buy the device and because of the same reason I also didn’t upgrade last year because by the time the 12 Pro came out it was already late for the people on the upgrade program. I’m tempted not to upgrade this year as well but let’s see what Apple releases with the 13.

I'll see if the Luck 13 brings something special. Otherwise it will probably be the 14 for me.
 
Depends on iPhone 13. But with hdr pics and video, oled, fast chip, 5g, it’s hard to imagine getting too excited about it.

With the 12 Pro Max, I finally have a phone that I absolutely love and don’t want to part with. I love my XS Max, but not as much as my Pro Max. The 12 Pro Max wowed me with the size first and color second. Blue is my 2nd favorite color, so it was a no brainer for me.

It was and i could sell for the same now, but come September though would probably need to fork out another $700AUD plus to get the 13 pro max 256gb.

Only way I'm buying the 13 is if it has Touch ID, that's all I really care about. Supposedly now that's not coming until at least 2022 though, so... meh. It's looking like it's going to be an "S" year so I'm probably going to skip it.

If they bring back the white ceramic watch though...

Unless the iPhone 13 can prevent COVID in a country-wide radius or something, I plan on sticking with my 12 for a while yet. I've never really seen the point of upgrading to every new model unless there's some killer new feature - apart from anything, leaving a gap of a few means when you do get a new one it's that much more impressive than the old one, because it's several generations ahead rather than just one.

I’m still holding onto my SE1 lol, but that’s neither here nor there. Crazy iOS 15 is being supported on it though. Was not expecting that.

I’m curious, what jailbreak functions do you use? I’d only consider it for the ability to remotely control the phone from another device.

I do. I'm also very itchy about contracts. I don't like being tied down. Especially to carriers. I really find that I always bring my own device. I just ask for a SIM card and move on. And with eSIM gaining traction, that might even simplify the process more. I like not being married to any one carrier and I owe them nothing and I can port my number over and presto chango I have a new carrier with no hidden fees or IMEI status issues because I didn't finish paying on it.

If for some reason I don't want to upgrade on a given year, I can, but still upgrade the next year. I also feel like you are always paying partly for that last phone with Apple that you no longer even have. It's not much different than getting a phone with a carrier other than you can upgrade every year, but it's still being pulled over time from your CC account.

I'm finally convinced that normal iPhone screen size is too small for me. I'll get the Max model of the next iPhone, no matter what it looks like or what features it has.
