Who will be keeping their iPhone 12 series this year?

I've gotten every new iPhone at launch since the iPhone 6, but the 12 was the first time I didn't buy an iPhone at launch, choosing to hold onto my 11 Pro and just paying it off (I had T-Mobile JOD so I got 3 upgrades a year, later changed to an upgrade every 30 days).

When my 11 Pro was paid off, I started using pre-paid carriers for a while, and I actually really liked using Mint Mobile, too. However back in April I decided to join my partner's AT&T post-paid plan and did a trade in deal to get a 12 Pro Max.

I haven't fully decided if I'm getting a 13 or not. I might just keep my 12 Pro Max until the 14 and do IUP, or go ahead and get a 13 and then pay that off in time for the 14 and do IUP. I have AT&T Next, but I'd be losing the bill credits I get for my trade in. We'll see. I love my 12PM but I kind of want a smaller phone, and with the 13 getting the new sensors allegedly, it might be worth it.

I´ll keep my X.
I always wait until some killer feature or app "requires" me to upgrade hardware. Waste dumps on this planet are already too filled to justify "the punishment of luxury".
Same here, happy with my X, still haven’t upgraded from 13.7 yet though, waiting on 14.7.1. I have played with and compared with my X at the Store. They pretty much the same, run the same software. A friend who has the 12 Pro, let me use his for a little while, it has a nice classy yes, but it’s not gonna budge me to get rid of my X.

Apple is of course limiting features with each release ie Airtags for instance need a 11 or later. But I see my upgrade year being 2023. That will be the 16th iPhone which is good jump from X. I shouldn’t even count the XS since it was just a refresh of the X with a bigger screen.

I'll be keeping my 12 Pro Max this year, and put the funds towards a new MBP 16" with the M2 M1x chip. May even get a cheap Apple Watch series 6 used to hold me over since now it seems all the rumors are not panning out with the new features.

I'm on IUP, so most likely no.

I have the 12 Pro Max, but I find it ridiculous to have to shut off 5G to get a call out in a few (not remote) places. Apple blames the carrier and the carrier blames AT&T. Most likely the 13 won't solve that, but dare to dream.....

Still using an old iPhone XR. No plans to upgrade this year, despite some creeping speaker distortion at medium-high volume. I'd rather spend money on my Macs, frankly. Need a TB3 dock pretty badly, but they ain't cheap...

These threads are fun, but ultimately ridiculous. It’s way too early until we know for a fact what the next iPhone will bring.

Half of the people claiming to “stick to their current phone” end up changing their minds anyway and upgrading. 😂

LOL, before I had the XR I had a 6s. One of the great things about Apple gear is that unlike Android phones, you do get up to 5 years of support, sometimes more. Unless the new phone has a 3D screen, can run a VR headset or washes my dishes, I'm probably keeping the XR.

I'm on a 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue. It's a beautiful device and although I wish I had gone with the Graphite color, I plan to keep it and skip this upgrade. There is a caveat, however:

Both me and one of my filmmaking friends (also on the 12 Pro Max) have discussed and might change our minds and upgrade this year if they release a "Video Portrait" mode feature. We're really hoping Apple does not release this or any other new, amazing video feature so we can skip this upgrade and direct our $$ to the new MacBook Pros instead. :)

Have not decided yet. There is a good chance we are. My wife usually makes that decision as she works in the cellular industry. To date we have done every new one that Apple has produced.

I don't update my iPhones every year. My current phone is an iPhone 12 and my previous phone was an 8 Plus. I'm very pleased with the 12 and I don't see any need to change it for a 13 and will more than likely hang onto it for a few years as it has all the features I need.

I bought a 12 day one and was coming from a 7, the upgrade was huge too for me !
Before my 7 I upgraded every 2 years, and I managed to keep it 4 years with no issues at all and even sold it for €250 ! Apple products work well in the long run :)

Only reason I upgraded from my X a month ago was because the hardware was failing. I like my 12 Mini, but it's not noticeably better than the X. Maybe if I played games on it or something, I dunno.

So unless Apple releases something mind blowing in the next few models, my guess is I'll be keeping my 12 until it or Apple forces the upgrade.

I think it's a hit or miss. all my upgrade was a soft check on the iUP. They never ended up on my credit report. Only the first initial and that's it.

Either way, I plan on keeping this one and I'll upgrade to maybe 3-4 years from now.

In the U.K. it’s hard check every time. I’ve confirmed this with Apple directly.

keeping my iphone 11 pro and iphone 12 pro max till 2024 only use my phone for netflix and apple music these days no point upgrading yearly nothing exciting these days......

I’ve had my Pacific Blue 12 Pro Max since launch and I have to say, that I still love this device as if it was the first day I unboxed it. I love the color, the size and the weight of my phone. My Pro Max is also jailbroken on 14.1, so I know I’m missing out on the improvements after 14.1, but it’s still not enough to get me upgrade my software and phone. I didn’t watch WWDC, so I don’t know what Apple is bringing out in iOS 15, but I guess I’ll find out whenever I upgrade later in the year. Even though Apple will be launching new iPhones this year, I am sitting out upgrading this year and have 0 issues upgrading in 2022. Is anyone else planning on not upgrading this year?
I am, I upgrade every 2 years. Given that I just upgraded, Apple would have to release something really enticing in the new model for me to upgrade.

I will be hanging on to my 12 mini and upgrading to the rumored 13 mini (if it comes to fruition).
But will the 13/12S mini really offer any significant upgrades, though? 🤔 It doesn’t seem like it from the rumours. Personally, I’ll keep my 12 mini until I see some real improvements. If the successor to the Mini got all the camera features of the Pro, as well as a significantly bigger battery, I’d definitely upgrade, but the way it looks now, I don’t see the point…

Normally I would agree. If the rumor is true that this is the last year for the mini, I want to have the last version. :D

I'm also jailbroken on 14.1 on my regular 12. I'm a little surprised that you have a Pro Max on 14.1 though!

It kind of feels big though... I think a 12 mini would have been better.

However, I'm not planning on upgrading either. Besides, I don't like having to wait for a jailbreak.

Yeah, same here. Also, I'm not a huge fan of iOS 15 anyways.

I waited too long to upgrade to 14.3, so I’m stuck on 14.1, which hasn’t bothered me one bit, since I was waiting for a jailbreak for iOS 14 once it hit. I’m not doing anything to lose my jailbreak as I don’t like waiting for another jailbreak. Once iOS 15 is officially released and there’s a jailbreak available, I’ll upgrade my software. Plus I haven’t experienced the battery drainage issue that many other people have or are experiencing.

I’m 100% not upgrading this year. I love my 12 Pro Max and can’t part with it. The only thing that will get me to upgrade is if Apple bring back the Rose Gold color, which I highly doubt they will, so I’ll be keeping mine for another year.
