Who's actually buying the 'new' Mac Pro?

I guess I have to...I'm running a 2,1 that's getting long in the tooth and there are no other alternatives short of going over to Windows (not gonna happen). If this is the last Mac Pro then I'm not going to wait another 1-2 years to find out.

So a 3.06 12 core it is for me. Shut up and take my money, Apple.

as for the hackingtosh, been looking into it, a lot actually, but noted that every time there's a software update, your hardware will fail and you have to revert or buy a new part.. i do not want to go through that

but i do not want this shameful mac pro either....

The single CPU 3.33 hex core is a very tempting buy now with the upgraded price. I would have definitely jumped on it if they just upgraded the graphics card, SATA II to III and added USB 3. It's still a damn fine and fast processor and is faster than any MBP or iMac, even if the iMac gets Ivy Bridge.

Now, I am sitting here and considering other options.
 
Well, Apple lured me into their world with the Ipad and I was tempted to go Mac Pro, but the Dell Precision is just too beast compared to the whimper of the new Mac Pro.
 
ProMax One is looking very tempting. The unofficial OSX support I've been hearing about really has me intrigued. Apple should have taken a cue from these guys.

I updated my Hack from 10.7.0 to 10.7.4 without any problem.
It's all about getting compatible parts. There is nothing magic with Mac parts.

what? this is new to me. only for a computer noob, that will happen.
never happen to me, clone hdd, save kext, install upgrade from a file, restore kext, reboot. Ta-da software upgraded.

I am building a ivy bridge, phase cool, mac pro with 5.3GHz quad, samsung 512GB ssd, gtx 285.

how does one know wether the parts are compatible, new hardware isn't tested/supported under the current OS's
and i surely don't want to use the old hardware that apple's using now ("new" they say...)

I'm just saddened to hear this, waited 1.5years for the new mac pro, and now i get this?

do you have a thread regarding building a hackintosh?

oh i've been there, i've been on a lot of sites, most of which all had faws regarding the motherboard, bluetooth not working/sleep not working/ yada yada yada

i need a reliable and stable system

@ma2ha3 i wouldn't call myself a computer noob, but you're talking chinese to me..

When ever a windows guy comes to these forums saying macs suck for gaming, we tell them no one buys a mac for gaming. Well if we don`t buy them for games and now we don`t buy them for work. What do we buy them for. I`m not sure anymore.

I'm buying it to surf Macrumors. All this bitching and moaning is kind of fun to watch.
 
Nope, I'm not stupid enough to pay money for that.

Its a total joke, and shows Apple couldn't care less about its more serious users.

This is Apple saying " oh just buy an iMac! Its just as good! "

I'm sure someone will come along to justify Apple's INSANE logic.
 
I have been holding out on buying a new mac for a really long time in hopes of an update. I have been using my wife's 2008 macbook to play Diablo 3 and it...sucks.

Im really conflicted right now because even the "upgraded" processors from today have been out and used for over 2 years. Can't believe the video card is the same too. I'm desperate at this point and was ready to drop $3k on a new one.

I might end up with the single 6-core with the 5870 card. Idk though. Im very conflicted lol.

Not trying to tell you what to do.

But its a waste of money buying the " New " Mac pro.

If your after gaming, its time to go Windows. Much more b ang for your buck.

Not if you do it right. A few years back this was true, but as time passes, it gets less and less an issue.

I appreciate the advice. I've been using Macs for over 20 years now and would consider myself a fan boy. I do not do any professional post production. I just know nothing about PCs. I have used the iMac and it's kind of cool but I kind of like the fact that I could add and remove items.

I just can't believe they are using old parts and saying it's new.
 
At the current specs no way. If they had included more upto date cpus and thrown in USB3/TB, SATA 3 & PCI-E 3 I would of gone for it without any hesitation.

But it just seems pointless to update. At the moment these models aren't that much different to mine so I don't see the point in wasting cash.

Ive owned Macs for a long time to, much more a PC guy tho. At home and work.

If all your after is gaming, I would look at Dells XPS Line. Or if you want something a little cooler looking.

The WORST video card on that system is way beyond the Mac Pro.

That system is overpriced by PC standards, and from a video game prespective, blows it out of the water.
