Do you realize Steve Jobs was still alive when iPhone 6 was designed? Jony Ive confirmed this.

There is no such thing as “Steve Jobs’ iPhone width” or “weigh.”

Do you realize that worms had already consumed Steve Jobs by the time Tim Cook took his predecessor’s “iPhone width” legacy, and shoved it in the toilet? Now we are left with these gigantic cell phones and Steve Jobs would of never allowed his company to abandon his “width” completely... offer more options with bigger sizes, sure...but to completely commit genocide against what the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S & the iPhone SE stood for...and that was perfection in the palm of a single hand and pocketability.

This is nonsense. It's a natural process and would've happened with or without Steve.

While not exactly identical, iPhone 11 (150$ more expensive than 8+ and lower ppi) or iPhone XR (50$ more expensive, lower ppi and single camera) might replace 8+ for some people.

I can definitely see how the XR would replace the 8+ for many people if the latter ends up being discontinued from Apple late March or early April 2020. It just costs $50 more and Face ID/notch/gestures aside it's really not too different from the 8+ at all.

Regarding the 11, it's still not too different from the 8+ at all. I'd go as far as to say the jump from A10 to A13 isn't huge or life-changing at all. But many people probably can't justify the extra $150 (or $230 where I'm at). It's a hefty extra amount to pay for rather minor improvements. With the XR (which is virtually the same as the 11) one would save $100 (or $180 where I'm at).

And then there's people that are on tighter budgets and can't afford anything costlier than the 8+. There are also people who prefer bezels, home button, Touch ID, 16:9 aspect ratio, rotatable screen, some or all of the above. In these cases neither the XR nor the 11 could replace the 8+. If these people don't already have 8+ device then they should purchase them between now and late March 2020 to be on the safe side. What I mean by 'safe side' is I don't think Apple will sell refurbished 8+ devices when the 'SE2' releases (assuming both the 8 and 8+ will discontinue) and buying devices on sites like eBay could be risky.

I get the feeling Ming-Chi Kuo has a little bit more credibility and insight into Apple’s product plans and strategy than a forum poster.

Are you kidding. It seems like almost everything Mr Ming predicts is always wrong. The stuff he gets right was usually reported by other sources.

And since he's out alone saying the se2 will be an updated iPhone 8 body shell, that's pretty much a guarantee that it won't be that.

I found rumors from Mark Gurman to be more dead on.

Personally I wonder if the rumored 5.4" phone will be the se2.

Both Mark Gurman and Nikkei have reported the SE2 will use the iPhone 8 form factor. Not sure what you've been reading.

As others may have stated, the SE 2 will be the last phone with the 6,6S,7,8 form factor. It’s a way for Apple to use up a lot of their surplus product and give the customers a deal. This might be the last phone with an LCD screen as well. As long as it has 3 GB of RAM and the same camera as the XR I may consider buying it. I will wait and see after launch what people are saying about battery life.

I would have in the past. Now that my aging eyes are losing their ability to focus as closely I’ll reluctantly transition to a larger phone.

If the rumors are true, Touch ID and no notch, I will buy it on day one. If it have a notch I'll probably upgrade from my 7 to an 8 instead.

When introduced in March of 2016, the SE had latest and greatest iPhone SoC and camera sensor at that time. I expect the same recipe next spring, which means the SE2 will support both Night Mode and Next generation Smart HDR from iPhone 11.
Could very well be!

Great to encounter another classic iPhone design fan!

Honestly the day that Apple finally stops selling bezeled iPhones with home buttons will be a sad one for me. The day Apple drops support for the SE2 (very likely the last bezeled iPhone from Apple) will be an even sadder day. Fortunately neither will happen anytime soon. Going by Apple's selling patterns the SE2 may sell from March 2020 to September 2022. The phone will be supported until at least September 2025 (wouldn't be surprised at all if it'll be supported for couple or few years after this date).

I think at this juncture the SE3 rumours are the most interesting. A compact 5.5” screen with no bezel could equal the body size similar to the iPhone 8, but having no notch and a Touch ID power button will offer a better screen experience and good security. I believe this will simply be the new SE, not a ‘Plus SE’. If the rumoured 5.4” device materialises it will tell us how big a 5.5” SE will be roughly. If the don’t is shaped after the iPhone 4 or 5 then it’ll be a very good option.
