Why wouldn't you go back to 13"? Just wondering. Another thing that kinda bothered me about the 11" was the hinges were looser so the screen would easily fall forward or back compared to the bigger 13".

Portability and style. The 11" is just so damn sexy, and with the refresh it'll have a lot more power to pack as well, making it even more attractive. I spend most of my time in a browser or a terminal so screen estate isn't the biggest issue for me. Besides, if I wanted to do any real work on a computer I'd get a big iMac to have at home anyways. I don't see a reason to have a huge laptop unless you are on a tight budget and can't afford two computers. I had a 13" MBP before, and I consider that huge compared to the 11". It's freaking heavy to use as a couch machine and I rarely took it with me out, certainly not on the bus or train it's just too big to be practical. And yes, I am blinded by the awesome factor of the 11" :)

About the hinges, if they are not tight I would take it back right away. My 2009 13" MBP had hinges like that and when I took it to the repair shop they said it couldn't be tightened anymore even though I felt the screen almost fell down by itself. Knowing they shouldn't be like that I had it exchanged for a new one which was perfect. The 11" screen is not heavy so the hinges should be super tight without issue. Paying top dollar gives you the right to be picky.

@hcho3

What resolution do you expect for a 13"? 1080p? Them pixels are gonna be real tiny.

The hinge isn't tight on the 11" MBA because if it were, you'd flip the entire laptop over when trying to open the lid with one hand. This isn't true of the heavier MBPs, where the laptop body was heavy enough that you could make the hinge a bit tighter and more difficult to open without sacrificing one-handed opening. That's the unofficial explanation, anyway. ;)

Personally, I don't care if the hinge is a bit looser. It must be tight enough that the screen requires a tiny bit of pressure (i.e. more than just gravity) for the screen to fall on its own.

I would love to but I'm probably just going to get one next week or so. I'm not really too keen on having Lion on my system either so I'm going to have to see if I can find a way to get SL back on there.

Apple can get stuffed tbh.

We already had price increases last year in the UK, and now it looks like they're going to increase again by a lot judging from the recent app store price updates.

I too am from the UK and am extremely worried about the recent price hikes (17% increase!) on the app store and what it will do to the price of the refreshed Air. I guess it's just a case of waiting it out and seeing. Hopefully the price has remained the same or is it a bit cheaper.

It's not looking good though

I believe the new 11" and 13" MacBook Airs will be the best selling :apple: computers ever, they will lead the styling edge revision across the board, and in the future they will literally become the lap top for everyone! THIN AND LIGHT IS IN, and will be the cause celeb, across the board. I further predict the 11" will become so popular, as to cut into iPad sales, it will further differentiate itself from the 13" by introducing a touch screen,as well as 4G.
When it happens, and it will, it will become a life changer, for many, and make it :apple:'s BEST SELLING laptop ever, far eclipsing EVERYTHING, :apple: has offered to date. Today is 7/13/11, track this, and see how I did:eek::D:cool:
I know this because Tyler and Steve knows this, and we have mind melded, just an FYI

I'm feeling it. I have an education discount, so I could make it easier on the bank. Gotta go with 13" 4GB RAM.

I'll buy a 13" model the moment they come out - not sure which model, but tending towards the lower spec as I don't need the bigger SSD etc. However, that decision will be made once the release is made, and the prices are known.

I've got £1500 sitting waiting for the purchase, which at current education pricing in the UK would buy me a fully upgraded 13"er. Hoping to spend more around the £1k mark and put the remainder towards the better half's new iMac.

Getting a little annoyed that Apple clearly have the hardware ready, and are artificially holding back the release for Lion. I'd rather have Snow Leopard until 10.7.1 is out.

Now this I can agree with; personally I want to use Snow Leopard until everything with Lion gets sorted out and the bugs get cleaned. There are also a lot of programs that just won't work with Lion and I fail to see why they would "make" me use it; why not just include a free coupon to download it from the App Store? They could have released the product earlier, gotten more sales, AND made everyone happier.

Here's to installing SL as soon as I get the machine.

Every Mac sold since WWDC (6th June) is part of the up-to-date program, and gets a free copy of Lion when it launches. So there is literally nothing stopping Apple from releasing the Airs now, and users can then grab Lion from the App Store at their leisure with no penalty.

I get it, selling the MBA with Lion preinstalled will increase the Lion user base, but it's getting silly now.

No, they'll release today.

The reason: They already had to load Lion onto those Macbook Airs and ship them out ^_^

I mean unless if they wirelessly install Lion onto them through the box or something?

I dunno.

Wish I shared your enthusiasm, PaulWog! I think we're gonna be waiting till next week at the earliest.
