I hope the first one is an Air, because it might be cheaper, but also a Pro 13 would be nice.

I'm in the market for a laptop for work, but now I'm gonna wait and buy this one. I don't need pro apps, just document apps and web browsers, so the ARM MacBook will suit me nice. Word is already working on it and will probably be optimised even further, and with iOS apps I can get everything extra I need: games, note apps, etc.

If battery life gets even better and no fans, then it's a winner.

Currently own a 27 5K 2019 iMac, so I can wait patiently for the MacBook ARM at the end of this year.

It should be a pretty zippy system. I think if you look at the current iPad Pros you can see the sort of performance to expect. I also hope they equip it with a 120 Hz display like the iPad Pro. That screen is super quick and scrolling is buttery smooth.

I also like the battery life of the iPad Pro. I can only imagine 20+ hours in a MacBook sized package. Glad I did not buy the new iPad Pro keyboard which I always felt was strange compromise.

Important message for me today was that MS Office will run natively. (We will see which components.)

When my rMBP 13 early 2015 comes to the close, I probably will be in the business for an ARM-based Mac.

The presentation answered a lot of the questions/concerns i had with how they were going to handle the transition. If Rosetta 2 works as well as they say (it doing the conversion on install sounds like it will work very well), and Adobe doesn't take too long porting Creative Cloud (i'm glad it's already being worked on and this isn't the first they are hearing of the transition), then i really won't have too much reason to be hesitant.

Only other thing i'm really waiting on (and it'll come later this year or next year i'm sure) is more technical information on the "family of Apple SoCs" they have in the new upcoming machines. The A12Z is likely just for the development hardware. I want to know about the new desktop versions of the chips they made for the consumer Mac products. The one we know to be based on the A14 that will be in the new iPhone but not. Based on the leaks/rumors it seems Apple has made a variant of the A14 for these Macs. Rather than just copy pasting the A14 into a Mac. So i just want some details on that.

Largely, i will definitely go ARM at some point, but how long it takes Adobe to port Creative Cloud and how long it takes a one other big program i use for work (they definitely will, i just don't know how long it'll take them) to port to ARM is a big factor for me. I may buy whatever last Intel MBP 16" (and one that's not super high spec) to hold me over while i sit back and watch the ARM transition play out over the next 2-3 years and then trade that in for an ARM Mac when i'm ready.

Comparing iPadOS performance with a full laptop/desktop with macOS, full versions of software, all the background apps and all other tasks that will be running that iPadOS won't be, not sure it's the right comparison.

I wonder what they are going to call them, since Apple changed the names of their computers every time they change CPUs. Maybe we can go back to PowerBook, although something like AppleBook is more likely.

I plan to be in. As long as I can get a good download manager. And they let me connect external drives. And i can load third party programs.

MB 12 reincarnation is the ARM Macbook I am waiting for. There is a Macbook with completely new form factor predicted by Kuo for next year, wonder if it means a touchscreen or even detachable screen. Hopefully Apple still has couple surprises up it sleeve...

buying macbook pro because I can do boot camp with windows, and also run many VMs. Don't know how good ARM can do with the VMs.

Depending on specs of these SOCs and price of the laptop, I’d be in the market for one of the first 13” Pros... It is kinda odd I know, but the ability to natively run iOS apps is a BIG benefit to me. Now games that currently can’t run on Intel MacBook Pro 13s and MacBook airs (thanks to intels crappy igpu) have a chance to run well on arm macs if there is a high quality iOS version available. (Fortnite for instance and possibly apex legends). Even the A12Z was able to run shadow of the tomb raider (in emulation mode no less) at what looked like a decent framerate which is more than what can be said about intel igpus.
