Further to my previous post it just goes to show how a non-expensive watch can often please as much as one costing nearly x10 the price. We purchased him a Breitling Colt Ocean automatic a few years back for his graduation, which has not been seen on his wrist recently. (Below)

Proof indeed that a well-tooled, inexpensive 'divers' watch can give as much pleasure to the wearer. (Below)

Loving the Breitling. I vow to purchase one, one day...

Someone asked me if this was a Grand Seiko. I didn't know how to answer other than to say "no. no it's not"

I guess if you can't afford the real thing you just have make do with some Swiss knock-off! ;)
".....some Swiss knock-off". Wow!
I'm pleased you thought to add the winking smiley, because those unfamiliar with the make may have incorrectly interpreted your comment as to discredit or vilify Vacheron Constantin. The truth is they make remarkable watches with exquisite movements. Many attribute the make to be the oldest watch brand in the world, which historically isn't strictly true. Founded in 1755, it predates Rolex by a cool 150 years, and although the latter is unquestionably the most famous watch brand in the world due to their brilliant marketing, Vacheron Constantin in the watchmaking circles and amongst connoisseurs is known as part of the 'Holy Trinity' of Patek Philip and AP - renown for ultra high quality and fine craftsmanship.
Agreed, the Grand Seiko range of watches are also exquisitely made.
Not owning a Grand Seiko or Vacheron Constantin I have no axe to grand, but my personal all-time favourites are Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC and Omega.

Ouch.

Mea culpa.

My bespectacled eyes didn't look any closer than glaze over (without examining) an iPhone picture, which I never do more than briefly glance at - the detail is rarely obvious unless one enlarges it, which I never do.

Following your post, I did peer closely at the image in question: Of course, you are absolutely correct.

Vacherin Constantin is an old, reputable and very respected watch maker.

Recent pick up..
Removed the Stainless Steel and installed a Barton "Alligator Style" Strap..
It's a nice piece, easy on the eyes and at a price that brings tears to my eyes..

I had the same watch but it was the one with the power reserve on the dial, nice watches but it was far to thick for my taste.
it came with a so called leather strap which was junk.

I had a 30 day return policy so it went back.

Is it possible to have a little more general info on the watch? We see it's a Submariner which have always been popular here, but do you have any story connected to it, i.e. was it an anniversary present, a special gift to yourself etc? If the latter what made you choose a Rolex? Was it a make you'd dreamt of having for years etc....
Having owned several Rolex's over the years and since parted with them, although they are very fine watches indeed I've now found greater satisfaction in owning other brands, some of which offer similar prestige, attract less attention (for me a plus), are a little less expensive and especially offer more complication features, plus display case backs etc.

The story behind this Sub is that it was a gift from my son, I had a GMT but I think the Sub 2-tone has a more luxurious look, I don't like full gold, it's too much for me.

The best thing about this Sub is the Sunburst dial, especially when the sun shines this gives a super effect, I am very happy with this watch

I briefly mentioned this in a different thread but has anybody seen the new Seiko Prospex GMT that came out recently? Looks beautiful on the wrist as the images don’t seem to do it justice. If I wore mechanicals daily like I used to, I’d be justifying a purchase I think. Rather pricey at £1400 though. Looks awesome in dark green IMO.

As much as I love Seiko watches I’ll never buy another, out of the 8 I owned only 2 didn’t have quality control issues, so there is no way I’d pay over £1k for one.

I ended up selling all mine and bought a Tudor BB58 with no regrets.

Oh wow, I've been lucky then as all mine have been satisfactory. I've always liked how high quality they are for the pricepoint. My SARB033 is amazing quality for the small amount I initially paid for it many years ago so I've been very happy with Seiko.
