Well, I don't know anybody that actually experienced any problems with 5.0. I didn't none of my friends did, my gf didn't...the only people I see who claim to have are on the internet complaining....and thats what they LOVE to do. Yes I experienced lower battery life my first week on 5.0....because I was using my phone more playing with the new features....once I got back on a regular usage it went right back to normal...and even with excess usage I still had enough to make it thru the day.
so because you didn't experience it, everyone else must have made it up? This is obviously not a widespread problem, but enough people were experiencing problems that Apple released an update that specifically stated it fixed BATTERY ISSUES....

Just saying, don't tell people apple doesn't have broken releases, because they definitely DO.

and that download wasn't just for the battery life also. I like how people who think they are took cool to download the fixes and stuff.... unless you jailbreak, that's a different reason.

I had the dreaded battery life issue on my iPhone 4. With iOS 4.3 I was easily getting two full days with regular use but as soon as iOS 5 dropped I upgraded and was lucky to get 4 hours out of it!! None of the suggested fixes seemed to work until I read somewhere that if you toggle the "Enable 3G" switch in Settings> General> Network (This switch doesn't exiist on the 4S, only on some carriers iPhone 4's) it would fix the issue. I tried it and I was back to two full days from a single charge again.

However, the moment iOS 5.01 dropped yesterday, I imediately upgraded my iPhone 4, iPad 2 and iPod Touch mainly because of the security fix, ...and also because I'm one of those geeks that must have the latest and greatest software installed the moment it is released!!

I can understand why some people would want to hold off though... 4 hours of battery life was driving me insane!! I'm happy to report that so far, so good!! It was obviously not a widespread issue, but what's that old saying about the minorities always screaming the loudest!! :p

I'm holding off right now...

Being charged at night to 8am morning, I'm seeing it near empty at 9-10pm at night. All moderate use. I would expect better...

I want to see for more positive feedback and see what Apple plans next, perhaps a 5.0.2 fix...

Revert

I'm with you. No good reason to upgrade. I'm staying put at 5.0

I'll upgrade when Apple gives me something to upgrade for.

The error rate for messed up s/w upgrade may be low, but it's not zero.
If there's zero reward to go with a non-zero risk, then it makes no sense.

There is no reason to be affraid of while upgrading to new v5.0.1, you can still revert your iOS to 5.0 version.

I don't think there is a way to downgrade back to 5.0. Saving blobs doesn't work anymore. If you really know of a way to downgrade let us know.

Wow, a whole lot of Apple fanboys here. A whole bunch of people who think that Apple can do no wrong. The purpose of this thread was to get a general consensus on what you guys think about the new release. The truth is, the update will be great for some people, and it will suck for others. Back to the discussion.

Only way to deal with their overly fanatic antics is to ignore them.

As for me I did not update to 5.0.1, still sticking to iOS 5 so that I can jailbreak soon.

...it was quick and easy

... that's what she said.. :D

I waited until I go home from work. I just pictured in my head that my phone locked up and was going to be without a phone until I got home.
I got home and it was really quick and smooth. Very happy with this OTA stuff.

You do understand that there is only one version of the software released right? There is NO WAY you got different code than me....so if you are experiencing problems with battery life it is either because the hardware is defective, or you have something installed that is messing with your battery (usually jailbreak)...if it were a bad iOS build than it would be affecting EVERYBODY!

I upgraded my iPhone 4S and an iPad 2 to 5.0.1. No problems with battery life or anything else.

I have too many problems with the first version and there is no mention that this bug fix addressed the stability problems.

I am sorry but I don't think iOS5 is ready for primetime.

ok???? ya the code is the same, but we all have different settings, apps, etc installed on our devices....

based on your logic, why doesn't every user have these battery problems? Why didn't this update fix the problem for every single person?

And stop trying to defend apple as if they don't release broken/buggy software, because it DOES happen. Why was there a huge security hole in iOS if it's not a "bad build"???? how do developers find exploits that allow us to jailbreak and unlock our devices if apple doesn't release bad builds? No iOS version will EVER be perfect. Your logic doesn't even make sense.

you serious? Every iOS version has been jailbroken at this point using exploits....

Here is a link to a huge security flaw that can be used (and was even submitted and approved for an app in the app store) where once the app is downloaded it calls "home" to a computer. Then from that computer one can download information off of the iPhone and even execute unsigned code.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2434...aw_shows_potential_for_app_store_malware.html

If you think every iOS version released is perfect you either live under a rock or your brain doesn't fully function.
