We haven’t yet received our 2 new M1 MBAs but after reading the forums here I’m a little bit nervous.
It seems everyone is having Bluetooth or Display or some sort of issues.
Please let me know that yours works perfectly and give me something to look forward to.
Thank you!!
I have 2 MBAs - one with the 8-core/8GB and another with 8-core/16GB - I have not had any issues with both. They are doing great so far!

I appreciate all the replies. It’s a little difficult to gauge when all you hear is what’s not working correctly. I know from experience in other areas that the few with problems are by far the most vocal, it is still nice to hear from you all that are happy with the M1.
My 2 are still about a week away.

None here... and I was plagued with bluetooth issues on my prior MBP. I also do not miss that awful keyboard and love this one so much more. In all honesty, I am SHOCKED with how I have not had one issue with Rosetta... I remember transitioning to intel and even some upgrades within MacOS where programs would not work and what not and was so worried of this being a repeat, thankfully not a problem to be seen. And I have even tried doing some things that did not ever work on my ARM-Based Surface Pro (i.e. logitech presenter remote). I finally got to hear my fan run once during a Zoom call but it was odd because I hadn't had that issue on other Zoom calls so that must've been a really special call I had because normally it runs silently. I was slightly impressed but shocked to hear it finally!

16GB/1TB MBA since November 17th. I’ve had exactly one problem which is my cheap 24” 4K LG monitor is not reliable using a USB-C to Display Port cable. But everything works fine with HDMI. I’ve had no Bluetooth problems. Wake from sleep is fine as long as I use HDMI. It’s the best Mac notebook that I’ve owned.

Anyone noticing reddish glow when display full black image on one side only? Especially noticeable in dark room with brightness setting high or 100%. I have this with my MBA M1. Not sure if it is feature or fault in this model as white image is nearly perfect and no reddish tint there. Could be partly screen coating issue too, I guess.

MBA 8 core, 16 GB, 2TB no issues whatsoever. Using it with an LG 24" Ultrafine 4K monitor, a couple of Samsung T7 SSD drives, Apple Magic keyboard and Magic Mouse 2, and a pair of HomePods. Everything has been plug and play. Been running now for about a week with no issues.

don't get nervous after reading stuff on here, many times, people are doing ridiculous things to "test" their machines etc. I've noticed many immediately wipe their machine and start "fresh"....well that created a problem for many. but why are they doing that in the first place? lol

so i don't really trust a lot of what people post most of the time. i have 2 new M1 MBA's and they work great!

Zero issues - MBA 8/7/8/256, MBA 8/8/8/512, MBP 8/256, MBP 8/512

I have tried four Macs, about a week or two with each and all with zero technical issues, difference in performance yes, but zero issues as people have been reporting.... I think people are way too picky...someone I saw reporting a "chemical smell" ... seriously, people smell their computers ... lol

MBP 16/1TB, no issues at all. Had a 2019 16inch MBP for about 2 weeks and was plagued with bluetooth drops and wifi issues, so at least some of the issues that people are reporting with their M1s don't seems AS specific.

Did you also have scroll ghosting by chance? I had a MBP 16 as well but decided to return it due to scroll ghosting/slow refresh and overheating when using a monitor.

No ghosting, but did have the fan/heat issues while hooked up to an external monitor that others have documented with non-5600m models.

I’ve had the base MBA for nearly two weeks. I had a couple of minor issues during the first few days—iCloud went funny (possibly a Big Sur rather than M1 issue) and my 2007 ACD refused to connect using a usb-c hub. iCloud sorted itself and I got a usb c to hdmi adaptor and that took care of the display issue.

Weirdly, the quality of the display looks so much better than it did on my 2013 rMBP. The colours are richer and I swear the thing is sharper too for text, which is bizarre as my main device for everyday use is the 2018 iPP, and I worried that using an older display would be painful to my eyes. Hasn’t been a problem. The only thing is, I find that if I leave a display and wired mouse plugged in I obviously can’t also charge the MBA, and the one time I did that overnight was also the only time I’ve seen super fast battery discharge. Usually I’m getting three to four days between charges, although granted I’m only using the machine for maximum four hours a day. Fantastic, fantastic laptop—incredible value for the price.

Have had a base M1 MBA since Launch Day. No issues whatsoever! A huge upgrade from a mid-13 13" MBA.

I received a mac mini this morning and I've been putting out fires on it all day. Most terminal commands don't work anymore, monitors are all wonky and reset after each reboot, intel apps are crashing. There's more but I think that's enough.

The answers in this thread are all over the place, depending on usage, so you should state what your main use is.

I've had the following issues with my M1 Mini:

1) Sleep doesn't work as expected - assuming the light on the Mini should change in brightness when it's sleeping. The screens turn off but the Mini's LED stays lit at a constant brightness. However, there is a slight noise from the attached speakers when I wake the screen, which might indicate that it had disconnected and reconnected to the audio interface the speakers are connected to.

2) Safari has crashed a couple of times in the last 4 days. I think this happened during or after a sleep event (which may have failed) but it's a bit concerning because I do a lot of work in web-based documents.

3) I use a Dell D6000 dock with DisplayLink into which 2 x 1080p monitors are connected. I've had several issues with this.
i) where the screens weren't visible at all (after a reboot). Unplugging and plugging in the dock a couple of times fixed the issue
ii) Similar story with the Rode AI-1 audio interface. Doesn't always return after waking from a dark screen. Again, unplugging the dock twice fixes it (once is not enough!)
iii) I had a bizarre problem where I couldn't move my cursor to the 2nd screen, where the login prompt was located, even though I could move off the first screen into some "invisible" space. Again, reconnecting the dock fixed it.
iv) similar issue with an invisible window that couldn't be found or moved to a visible screen, and a browser window that got stuck on one side of the screen and couldn't be moved.

So most of the issues are dock related, which is an inconvenience but not a show-stopper. It does mean I have to position the Mini where I can easily unplug the dock though, so it is not ideal ergonomically.

I have a Mini and have been using many terminal commands and Intel apps without issue for the last few days. What commands / apps are you having issues with?

Most of my terminal work has been with Git, AWS command line, Homebrew, standard MacOS/Unix command line.

For Intel apps, I've been using:
OneDrive,
LastPass
Slack
VS Code
Spotify
MS OneNote
Dropbox
DisplayLink
MS Remote Desktop
CyberDuck

Removing the dock slide delay:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -int 0;killall Dock

Hacking dark mode:
defaults write -g NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool Yes

Trying to create an EDID monitor override, but this one is currently being solved:
ruby patch-edid.rb

Unity has been a disaster but I kind of expected that. VS Code installed fine but haven't really used it yet. Photoshop was a bit glitchy but seemed fine otherwise. Dropbox is working well.

What terminal commands don't work. I haven't found anything. Unless you mean Homebrew in which case you should check out MacPorts. Not perfect but better than brew.

Fair enough; Some of these may be OS changes from Big Sur of course. I was wondering if there are many MacOS-level differences between Intel and M1, and have been looking for a list...

I can't comment on Ruby support, but I heard that GoLang is "no-go" :)

Sounds like you like get into the weeds with the OS, so as a pioneer, you can expect to get a few arrows shot into you....

Keep us informed of progress!

You can just install Homebrew under Rosetta:

arch -x86_64 /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install.sh)"

or change the Terminal preference to run under Rosetta.

It is also possible to install a native version of Homebrew. See
.

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://gist.githubusercontent.com/nr...)"

There may be some "bottles" that have dependencies that aren't available on ARM64, but you can always install these from a source build (i.e. compile all the dependencies for aarch64).

Lots more info here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25183120

Most of macports just seems to work already. I'm willing to look at Homebrew again when they release something compatible. Right now it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Why is that “weird?” There have been a lot of improvements in screens since the 2013 model.
