I too am waiting for Tom Tom, but does anyone have any opinions about G-Map? I am thinking of maybe getting that first to see if it meets my needs.

I absolutely love the new G-Map nav app (v1.3.1). I bought the app when it was v1.2 and was only $19.95 (for US west or US East). It has all the features I'd ever want, including the pretty cool lane assist in the medium-to-bigger cities (see xRoad's webpage www.xroadgps.com to find out more). The maps are loaded on the phone and the GPS tracks pretty darn good for being a phone first. Even the speedometer is within 1-2 mph at fairly constant speeds (not bad for having about a 50-foot GPS accuracy at best).

My only complaint is that xRoad screwed with the app's ability to play iPod (or Pandora, etc.) while using the G-Map app when they went from v1.3 to v1.3.1. I just don't understand. This is a big deal (for me) since the voice thru the iPhone's speaker is far too quiet to hear the lady's pretty voice giving me directions without sending it thru my stereo. SO I either have to listen to the iPod on the iPhone and have no G-Map running, or I have to listen to the radio at a mouse whisper so I can hear the G-Map lady, or I have to have the G-Map lady channeled thru my stereo and listen to nothing but her. I need the G-Map lady to interrupt Van Halen by reducing the volume of Diamond Dave and then tell me where to go. This needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY!!

Overall, it is an incredible program for $20, and a very very solid and competitive program at its current price of $34.95 for half the country. This puts it price-wise on par with Sygic and far below Navigon (G-Map and Navigon both use Navteq maps) and probably well below Tom Tom's app-and-cradle system.

It get's me from Point A to Point B without forcing me to spend any more money. I can't wait to get the iPhone G-Map version previewed on YouTube by TapCritic (with no additional fee).

I (almost) love this app!!

I will wait for TomTom, I have no need to jump the gun on this one.

I can understand why some people might need to get something sooner rather than wait.

For me, as its a piece of software that you cannot really re-sell (if you don't like it), I already know what to expect with TomTom and hence don't see the need to risk having to make a more expensive investment by buying something different and then possibly buying TomTom in the end anyway.

I just got myself a Tom Tom One V4 for £60 from PC World, I had to give in as I don't think we will even get the maps for that prices for the Iphone.

I'm trying the ATT subscription app and it seems to work OK. I should give g-map a try too I guess. I have a feeling TomTom is going to be expensive.

So let me get this straight with TomTom. Europe and America come first and then they'll think about the rest of the world?

I'm waiting too, but I have a big trip that I need a GPS for on August 8th..Do we think TomTom will be released by then?

Will not be getting the TomTom app. Bet it will be a lot more expensive plus they are trying to push their hardware with it.

Tried Sygic and it did a pretty good job. For now I think I will stick to my regular GPS device though and see how the iPhone apps come along.

Well hopefully because if they haven't they will lose a lot of sales as people bece impatient and just use the ones available on the AppStore already

Still waiting

I'm waiting. I have to, it's TomTom.

I hope it's worth the wait? I should mention if they pull an AT&T/MMS on me/us I will be making another purchase tho.

I've got Navigon but Just based on using it locally I've got zero confidence in its routing so I'll be buying TomTom when it's available.

I'm off to France on the 1st August so if TomTom isn't out by then I've got TomTom on my old Smartphone so I'll be taking that.

Well I had tomtom on all my WM phones going back to errm well I guess it must be about 2003 ish?

The thing that put me off the most about the iPhone was lack of tomtom so I bought a tomtom one europe to tide me over.

As soon as its out on the iPhone I will be selling my tomtom one and getting the iPhone version... I miss having it with me wherever I go and having the inbuilt data connection for stuff like traffic and cameras etc.

Bought Navigon...

I bought Navigon last week due to travel needs, I would have much preferred Tomtom, but I just couldn't wait any longer. Light use so far in the Netherlands, so not really sure how it'll go, but I'll be really putting it through it's paces on a trip to Italy later this week.

So far not impressed too much, there was one POI that I thought could be interesting in Amsterdam, only to walk down the street and found it didn't exist.

I might take my old HTC Diamond to Italy, just to use TomTom if I need it - it's a real shame TomTom have delayed so long for the iPhone, because I really would have much preferred to buy their solution.

I'm going on a trip in about 2 weeks. I think if I don't hear anything more on the TomTom I will the pull the trigger on G-map. We will see though...

Wouldnt waste your money man... its not good yet. Only if the next update comes out.

I'm waiting in the sense that I'm not springing for one of the other stand-alone apps. I'm not waiting in that I subscribed to AT&T Navigator for the interim. If the TT package looks good and is reasonably priced, I'll go that route. Otherwise, I can stick with the AT&T app for a bit.

To me, the hardware makes the TomTom system a lot more attractive than the other offerings. While the iPhone GPS is pretty good considering the physical limitations on the antenna, stand-alone GPS units are much better. I'm willing to pay a fair amount for that, and if I get better integration of iPod audio and nav audio at the same time, even better. (The lack of such integration is my biggest annoyance with the AT&T app.)

Just make sure that the G-map maps cover your travel area. I LOVE G-map and planned to use it, only to find that the area of Wisconsin to which I was traveling is not in the database...:(

I'm waiting for TomTom to be released but I'm still very curious to learn more about how it's going to be priced/packaged. I'm very curious to find out how much this window mounting dock complete with its own GPS will cost. In the meantime I'm giving AT&T navigator a try. So far it works extremely well but I'm still not sure if I'll continue paying $9.99/month for the service.

I used it last week while traveling to/from North Carolina for vacation and found it to be pretty good. I'll probably keep it until the TomTom or Navigon US apps are released.

You bought it for pois? Why don't you just use the maps app for that.

Just use G-Maps East (in the US) and you won't be sorry.

It's every bit as good, and better than my TomTom XLS hardware.
