I'm wondering if TomTom wasn't dragging their feet for the just-released 3.1 beta 2. TomTom says they're using Bluetooth to connect the speakerphone in the dock to the phone. The beta release that just came out allows for voice control over Bluetooth. Just a thought. It was previously mentioned that Bluetooth control was coming and it's finally out at the developer level.

i really hope this doesnt end up costing more then $100 because that would be pointless when you can go get a garmin and even a tomtom stand alone for $79.00 when you catch them on sale..

also, i wonder how its going to work is it per acct or per device? bc i have 3 iphone 3GS that are linked to my itunes account, and a 4th will be added in nov. in no way will i be willing to pay $100 x 4 when all the other apps ive paid for work across the 4 phones

i know of 1 app that currently only works on 1 phone at a time and its a nursing application that i have for school, the other people on my acct dont need the app so that works out for me but i have no idea how they limit it to only 1 phone and before you guys say that using 1 paid app on 3 iphones is stealing, well its not, i paid for the app its not cracked, all 3 phones are on my family plan and so on.. so i feel i should beable to use it on 3 phones seeing as they are all under my name.

Why wait ?

In Europe we have no other choice than Google Maps or Navigon. Sygic & G-Map have not yet released their European versions. I have used Navigon for 2 weeks now and I must say that it does its job pretty well. The maps are recent, the vocal guidance is very efficient and accurate, and the 3D view of some junctions is very helpful.

The only problem is a lack of sensitivity of the GPS. with the Kensington LiquidAux Deluxe kit, the Iphone is far from the windshield, so maybe it is better if the Iphone is positioned somewhere else. It is OK if I am alone in the car, but with some passengers inside it becomes very difficult to have a correct GPS signal.

To come back to the subject, why should I wait for TomTom ? Navigon already gives me what I want, and in the next release due this month they will add the possibility to prepare the itinerary & add the fixed radars. What else can Tomtom offer (without subscrition) ?

Thanks, I hadn't noticed it. How does it compare to Navigon on the most important features (GPS sensitivity, accuracy of guidance, ...) ?

I have the Australian version and so far I am impressed. The routing it chooses is sometimes a bit odd but thats all I can fault it for.

You bought it for pois? Why don't you just use the maps app for that.

No, I bought it for navigation, but the POIs are interesting extras. The reason I didn't use the maps app is because I really didn't fancy the data roaming charges...

Ahh, yes data roaming charges. Good point, but that won't be a problem for me :)

I'm still waiting, but if that UK site is correct, ours would land really almost in the $200 mark - which is something like an iPhone already

The price is TBC according to their site. That current price is only a provisional tag.

Yup, I wonder for how long though. iGo was just recently released too.
I just wish they'd release it ASAP
