"but it's worth noting that you still spent a month working on building a computer, without having said computer to get work done with"

Here's your quote. I 'll bet he did have a computer to get work done with.

Sure. I'm not saying he didn't. I'm just saying he didn't have his new computer before he built his new computer.

Being that the context of this board is computers what do you think HMMWV stands for? Did you happen to click on my profile to see who I work for or did you just ask the question with a bit of wiki?

Given the context of computers, I had no idea whatsoever what HMMWV stood for. So I searched via Google. The only results I found were about the Humvee. I didn't think that applied. So I searched MacRumors specifically, thinking maybe it's some hackintosh term - and maybe my search-fu is bad but the ONLY person I found using the term HMMWV to refer to a hackintosh build is you. Everybody else used it in reference to the Humvee vehicle in various political or military threads. So I still don't know what you mean when you refer to a hackintosh build as an HMMWV. I'm not trying to be confrontational here - I simply don't know what you're talking about so I asked for clarification. If I offended you with my question, I don't know how, but I offer my apologies and withdraw the question.

But he had his old one. I don't want to stereotype to much but I believe he's German meaning he does nothing without purpose or benefit. When a German says it's better, you can bet your life it is.

Again I'm very up front about who and what I am. My HMWWV is what it sounds an appliance that get things done faster than a stylish Mac. I do not hide who and what I am. I'm abrasive, unapologetic, and skilled thats why my customers like me.

Yes, I too am sure his new computer is better than his old one. But he still didn't have his new computer until he had his new computer.

Ah! So the term "HMMWV" is simply the nickname you've given to your hackintosh?

But he had his old one, which means productive work was being done new or old. New computers take time to integrate even if they're Mac's

I never said his work was at a standstill while planning the new computer. All I pointed out was that he didn't have his new computer available for work while he was planning it.

Cool. You're building (built?) a new one? What do you call it?

And he wouldn't have if He bought a new Mac either..

I build/built about 6-8 computers a month, that how I afford Mac's

Urgh, I had one of those when I was little! That's a trip down memory lane, thanks dude. My Dad was an electrician so he bought me one to help me 'follow in his footsteps'.

I remember half of the time with that thing I had no idea what I was doing. There was an instruction manual, sure, but there's only so much fun a hyperactive child can have with making an LED display count upwards. Nonetheless, I painstakingly completed the whole manual, and when I was finished, I realised I knew nothing more than I did before about electronics.

So I decided to improvise some circuits. "How hard could it be?", I asked myself, confidently. Suffice it to say, with my distinct lack of knowledge, it wasn't long until smoke started bellowing from one of the springs. I got scared, pulled the plug on everything, locked it in my cupboard and never used it again.

I'm glad I didn't grow up to be an electrician.

Hehehe, I remember making an AM radio and a fish caller out of it. The AM radio got beautiful static white-noise and when I stuck the leads of the fish caller in our backyard fishpond the swordtails and the goldfish gathered around but they did for just my finger as well. The morse code keyer worked and I even learned the 1st three letters of the alphabet. I think I was 5 at the time. :)

But he would have had it a month earlier then the poster here, and several months earlier than my co-worker. To some, that matters. To others, of course, not so much. (For my co worker, for example, it was very stressful. But he's an excitable sort of guy.)

I have had a Mac since 1984, and currently own a 3.06 12 core. I really wish the Mac Pro was more fun. I mean you can't even overclock it. I look at all the neat stuff for PC's, and sometime wonder why I bought my current Mac Pro. Why can't one overclock? Now with the new Mac Pro, it looks like Appke took boring to a whole new level.

Sorry, I don't believe you. Either you haven't had Macs since 1984 or you didn't always find them boring. Your argument is childish in the extreme (Wah! No fancy colors! No geeky overclockability! No neat stuff! Wah!). It's also not even true, so why bother trolling? How can you have had Macs, be so ignorant about them, and then complain about your own ignorance but blame the computer for it? LOL.

tiger direct sells low end hardware, no LGA2011 so I am not sure I understand you. Instead of focusing on "dumping money" and overclocking maybe you should try to focus on making real money. every animator has the same excuse for requiring unbounded hardware performance, need to do things faster. I don't buy it one bit. If you get the income, you get the hardware. otherwise you are just someone with an expensive hobby..

I'm not trying to start a flame war here, I'm just saying that walking into Tiger Direct opened my eyes to wonders I never really even thought about before. I just find it a shame, that those who like to tinker around to tweak everything they can, are completely locked out. Seems that Apple is hellbent on making their entire product line more or less disposable! This is no more evident than in the new Mac Pro. Like I say I have dumped more money over the years in the top end Macs than I care to admit, and after today, I'm beginning to wonder why. I see nothing wrong with tweaking performance to get my animations, and renderings done faster!

ROFL....you've got 12 cores and your complaining you can't over clock them?....man...what a first world problem you have!:D

It took me 15 years to get off windows machines so I could cut down on the...fun?....in my life!!

Ha ha.
OP's cores do over-clock automagically to 3.46GHz depending on the workload.

Macs by nature allow one to spend less time on maintenance, which sums up the advantage. One can look elsewhere to find other tools that require more hand-holding and upkeep but why not simply enjoy being unplugged?

my macs have always had "worse" graphics than what I had at work, though my macs always performed better.
At work I use PCs with really sweet graphics cards, awesome CUDA power and loads more...but does it work as intended ? No ! why ? drivers...
When using one system I need one set of drivers, when using another system a different set (a there are many versions in between) and then my cards "forget" my second screen, then I can spend hours trying to get the second screen back and so on and so forth.
If thats the fun you want...go PC ;)
