Why are so many things only an issue if Apple does it?

Apple is probably the most scrutinized company in the world. Each product is examined under a microscope, just as each line item on the corporate earnings report. Apple is the leader in innovative technology, not that many other companies don’t innovate very well, but Apple has led the way in consumer tech for many years. There are many who believe that can’t continue so they exaggerate every perceived flaw in every product. Advocates are derided as “fanboys” and positive reviews are dismissed as efforts to receive continued access to products and corporate officials. Everyone wants to knock the king off the hill, so don’t expect it to stop until the day Apple is no longer relevant.

Soooo excited to find the results. I’m going to email Timmy with the results (as if he isnt already following 🤦‍♂️)

"I just like to complain on the Internet, especially when I don't know what I'm talking about."
Oh you gotta.gif

Because Apple are a marketing giant and hype their products very well so expectations are high - and so are the prices. So naturally consumers expect a premium product and sometimes Apple falls short.

The majority of consumers don't see or look for issues but the press and social media will latch onto reported problems because Apple are a big target.

It's not unreasonable to highlight potential issues, at least it informs the consumer and brings it to Apples attention.

Regardless, nothing will stop Apple shifting product and making money - and if your unhappy with your purchase, they have faultless returns policy.

Actually, it's the other way around - it's only OK if Apple does it.

Samsung releases the large screen Note. Apple fans: "how stupid, who will want a phone so big?"

Apple releases the Max. Apple fans: "Brilliant, what a great idea!"

Just trying to understand the recent iPad Pro release theads.
What we are seeing with the new iPad is nothing new. It happens with all products.

The reason you see so many adults throwing temper tantrums is because they have attached their identity and self worth to Apple products. Think about all the "what should I purchase" type threads you have seen. Some need real guidance but the majority are looking to make the right ego purchase. That is why so many here have an incessant need to be validated by strangers. Having so called elite pro models that are high priced gives them an inflated ego. Not getting what they expect is a threat to their identity. It doesn't matter that they hold Apple to a higher standard than they live. What matters is keeping that smoke and mirrors tech identity intact no matter what. They can't spend time in real life wearing a full tech diaper and screaming til their face is red, because strangers don't care. That is why they scream and holler on MR.

I love Apple products, I own many of them... I also own Samsung products, Google products, etc. and love them as much.

I think the problem with Apple products vs the rest is they hold themselves to a higher standard, that was part of Jobs' philosophy upon his return, to not just pump out competitively priced products and push large sales, but instead to produce the best product they could with price in mind but not as a driving force.

He spoke about this in many interviews in fact.

Apple charges a premium and customers pay that premium in exchange for what most consider the best of the best.

So when there's a problem, be it real like the antenna issues on the iPhone4, or fairly non-issues like the screens on the 12.9 iPad M1, yeah, it gets blown up more than it would if it was a cheaper Lenovo product or something.

I think it's also entirely possible Apple buyers expect more from their technology and in turn find more disappointment in possible defects than do someone buying an RCA tablet at walmart. ;)

I love forums - I own a 12.9 iPad Pro, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, a Surface Pro 7, a Dell Desktop and a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus so I can go to forums for each and read all of the complaining about everything. And the cross-complaining and mud slinging about other vendors' products. It makes it hard to decide which of my devices sucks the most.

There's nothing new here. Happens every time. The similarities to other releases is very ,very, close.

It dies down pretty quick, as the vocal posters tire. The cost has a lot to do with it. People go nuts. Can't blame them :D

There may be a direct correlation between how much you can afford these types of things, and the intense scrutiny you subject them to. If it's nothing financially, you may tend to not notice things.

Because Apple news draws the clicks and the views. All the more when it’s negative news. Hence the desire to manufacture outrage and controversy where none exist.

Apple's marketing sets the bar really high for their own stuff, they are very vocal about it, and they charge a premium for their products. It's kind of easy to perceive that they didn't reach that bar, so people are more annoyed than they would be with a more mainstream company.

Also, Apple is incredibly rich and successful; people generally aren't. It's human nature to be pissed when someone in a better position than you is getting something you don't feel they deserve. (It's also human nature to anthropomorphize a company.)

Personally, I love Apple stuff. I just lower my expectations so that I can enjoy their products and not be annoyed with their flaws. My 2018 MacBook Pro crashes every week or so when I disconnect a few USB drives, it's on its third battery, and it is uncomfortably warm under my palms. But, I still love the machine and how productive it makes me.

Holy smokes! You've really created quite a narrative of fanfiction around people who have differing views -- it's quite the projection! The ones I see crafting an "identity" around their Apple products to the point of feeling threatened by differing opinions are those with 5+ Apple devices listed in their signature, as if to prove the dedication to the ecosystem. :p

These forums (and comments sections in reviews, etc) are places for people to express what they want to see in the products. Some may be constructive, others more angry, and others in defense. You don't have to care what others think -- you can just move on, or express you opinion... whatever you'd like.

Apple tends to do really "bold" and "daring" things long before they're popular, such as removing the headphone jack, removing all laptop ports and replacing them with one nobody yet uses for anything... yet lagging behind on providing what people want (Apple pencil, larger phone displays, updated desktops), while charging some of the most premium prices. They lay the marketing on really thick, and hype things up with their keynotes. Being at or near the top will always put a target on your back, but plenty of Apple's design, marketing, and pricing choices have left people missing what they want. It probably would be less of an issue if people didn't have to buy into an "ecosystem" and could just move in and out -- but Apple doesn't much like that. ;)

I'm in the middle of the fence on this one. I have and use products from all different manufacturers. I buy what product I like best regardless of manufacturer. I have 0 loyalty to Apple or Samsung, HP, etc. I'd abandon Samsung in a second for my next purchase if I liked an Apple product better or vice versa. I criticize all these Trillion dollar multinational conglomerates equally.

You have a very negative view of people. Your choice of language makes it clear you're being heavily driven by emotion. I suspect if you actually met the people you feel so negatively about, your world view would come crashing down.

Apple brings it on itself. Cook is more visible than many CEOs and Apple has a track record of lies, hiding known problems, not admitting mistakes and basically taking advantage of its devoted customer base. So when things go wrong, some people are not shy to highlight the problems, poor quality control, the crookedness of continuing to sell a keyboard for years after it was known too be faulty etc.

Other companies certainly deserve criticism but don't perhaps get as much as their CEOs are not often seen on soap boxes trying to save the world while in Apple HQ obvious mistakes are being made.

You can’t even see how this statement reeks of anti Apple bias though can you.
