Actually you can with 2nd hand phones. Prices on android phones are not very cheap.
I'm not a big fan of second hand tech. I'd rather have a cheaper new phone than a 2 years old luxury phone.

It's not that iPhones are much more expensive when comparing similar devices, it's mostly that there is a lot more options when it comes to budget phones with Android. My current phone is a Moto G4 Plus, ok specs, fingerprint sensor, 1/4 of the price of a iPhone when I bought it. I don't love it but it does the job.

Now the SE is interesting and if it was out then I would have considered it instead.

For me, a phone is not something I'm interested in "investing" in. Contrary to a computer, I don't spend that much time on it and I don't do anything that requires powerful specs. Also, I don't want to worry all the time about breaking/losing/getting robbed a 1000$ phone. A 2-300$ phone is a lot better for my peace of mind.

Just making a thread to discuss why people would choose Android over iOS when it comes to phones. The reason I am doing this is there seems to be a lot of people on this website with odd and out there ideas to explain why someone will purposely choose the competition.

This is for ligitamate reasons such as design user experience, software, availability, affordablility wand other related to that. Reason such as "apple is #$&@" or "Samsung Rules" are not valid reasons.

*If you are cannot stand other people's opinions close this thread now*

I'll start with myself. I previously owned a iPhone 7 after nearly 7 years on Android. Now I own a Note 8. For me the iOS experience was great but there where several small things that drove me nuts and forced me to change. One of those is the ability to set default apps. I cannot stand Apple maps or safari thry are not for me. I prefer Google maps and Chrome. Example if I recieve a text message with an address if I tap it opens apple maps. If I delete apple maps I am told to download apple maps. I have to copy the address then paste it into Google maps. Absolutely far to much of a hassle for me. Also Siri is awful compared to Google assistant which I use a lot.
Other things make me really jelous of the iOS ecosystem. They have by far the best smart watch and I really would love to get an apple watch. But for me it is not worth going to the headache of iOS for. if apple where to change that to allow default apps I may get the 2018 flagship.
For me Android is the perfect mix of Old School and New, hence I have a Galaxy Note8.

Real Multitasking, Side loading what I want without having to jailbreak, MicroSD, SPen, and the general Openness of Android.

My phone needs to be more like a PC away from my PC.

How do you install a torrent set up, web sourced apk files wont Install. Pray tell? Are we on about jail breaking?
No not jail breaking. Go to tweak box app.com hit download. Trust it. Then download moviebox and bobby movie. Hit trust again. And you can watch or download new movies. No jailbreak at all. There’s also a lot of other cool things on there like YouTube++ no adds. It’s basically a YouTube red for free.

There are a couple of threads like this ;)

Had iOS for a few years including an iPhone 7+, iPad Pro and rMB.
However this year I became disappointed with iOS 11. I took the opportunity and looked long and hard at Android. I have owned them in the past.

End result; I bought a Razer. The Pixel 2 XL was my second choice.
Two months later I am still rocking this device. Awesome battery, fast and fluid. If you want to see a review, I have a link in my signature.

Yes I looked at the 8+ and X. Apple really really needs to fix iOS.

I’ve had nothing but iPhones since the OG iPhone was released. I played around with Android over the years, but was never really impressed. I picked up a pretty well used S8 last month and absolutely love it (still getting used to everything though). The endless customization that Android offers is something that I’ve grown fond of.

My iPhone X is my daily driver, but I’m seriously thinking about selling it and buying the S9 or Pixel 2. I have an Apple Watch, but I have been thinking of selling that as well. Hell will have to freeze over before I part ways with my 10.5” IPP though. My rMBP will be sold soon as I will be using my IPP full time.

The one thing that holds me back from going with Android full time is iMessage and FaceTime. I do use those services heavily, especially with my wife. I can have my wife download the Duo app to replace FaceTime, but I’m trying to figure out how to replace iMessage. I use WhatsApp frequently with friends, but my wife doesn’t use it. Worse comes to worse, we can just SMS (Android messages decent?)

Yeah that’s one thing I also hate about android. The messaging app absolutely sucks.

Except with Android you have any number of apps that can be set as your default text messaging app to get the experience more to your liking, unlike with iOS...

Android is just more functional and easier to to use than iPhone.
That's subjective, despite liking both I find Android more overwhelming for new users hence I find iOS easier to use.
Android more functional than iOS? Sure that's true, it works just like a mini PC in my hands.

Yeah I like iOS messaging app a lot better then any android messaging app anyway. That was one thing I hated about androids. There messaging apps blow.
[doublepost=1521664288][/doublepost]I can’t believe how many android users there are here. Why are you even on this on this site? I personally used to hate iPhones and had a galaxy. Then I finally got tired of the pos galaxy lagging so much I went to an iPhone and haven’t looked back. They don’t lag 2 months after buying like Samsung’s do.

That makes no sense , theres no ONE messaging app!!! Each OEM does their own thing, or you can use whatsapp as a default..

What about malware and viruses from these movie sites? Would placing these apps in secure folder prevent issues?
Never had a single.issue, and boy do i download a lot of movies.. I use showbox and popcorn time, both awesome.. I've recently got a chromecast, so stream now which is seamless....

I didn't realize that if you use Android you can't also use iOS... or macOS... or any other Apple product. I learned something new today.

You can do whatever you want I just don’t see why you all bash products from a maker that you support by buying there other products such as a mb.

That’s unfortunate. The only good thing is that there are a plethora of messaging apps my wife and I could use if I went to Android full time.

If this was aimed at me for my "unlike on iOS" comment - I wasn't bashing iOS, I was just commenting on how you can change the default messaging app, unlike how you're locked into one on iOS. Just making a comparison. If you notice - I don't go into the iOS device forums, I don't have one but I help people with them at work despite not having one.

So you can have iMessage on an android? Is that what your telling me? I used what’s app and other apps. They all sucked. iMessage is alot better.

For me - Hangouts does the job well. With the combo of my carrier (Project Fi) and my device (Pixel 2 XL) with SMS integration enabled on Hangouts I have about as close to an iMessage experience as one can get. I can message through text or other Hangouts messaging from ANY device logged in to my Google account, including my Mac...

For ease of use, i am talking in general not about a novice user first time using Android.

I just find the universal back button (located at the bottom :) ) and stacked app windows navigation require much less effort.

Plus scrolling in Android is still faster requiring less swipes.

Rest like notification, toggles, settings and popup/top menu are far easier to use on android

Your dog is so cute. I agree imessage and FaceTime is pretty neat. I think messenger is a darn good messaging app. They had more feature before imessage like you can make payment to your friends, play games. Etc. Not many people know about these features. You can also group video chat which iOS lacks.

So messenger is imessage FaceTime in one. However I currently have the default sms. You can schedule messages with it. Also pin your important conversations to the top . I use both and it works.

I still have my MacBook if I really needed FaceTime or imessage but I don't use them now. I just put messenger on my MacBook.

In android, there are so many options, that's the beauty of it. However, I understand there are people who like simplicity which iOS would suit them. For me personally, I spend a lot of time on my phone still android works for me right now. ☆I ♡ love ♡my note 8 so much. ☆

I do have to say, I think the apple watch is a teensy bit better than the android s2 watch that I have. I also had the apple one. I mean there are pros and cons to each one.

Yes I like using android as well. In iOS, it's universal to swipe right to go back. [Thus no need for back button] IOS is adopting a gesture system which it's more natural and faster to me. However, when scrolling fast, it's easy for the system to mistake that as a back gesture. So I think android way can be more accurate but iOS can be intuitive once you get used to it.
