I have used android tablets and they all have the same problem. Slowing down over time, bugs, memory management issues, poor battery life (random system using battery).

Apple IOS just tends to work. no hassle or maintenance over time. Just wished they introduced multiple logon's for family shared ipads...

Software updates / security
Integration with macOS / iPhone.
Superior performance
Superior screen (ipad pro)
Superior speakers

generally... superior...

Willing to pay the extra for something that doesn't suck.

Just wonder what were your reasons

Well did you buy an iPad.

The only android tablet I would get presently because it is cheap is the Asus Zenpad 8, at least the company has kept up with software updates. It is now on Android Nougat.

This is not one of those subjective questions like iPhone vs Android Phone. Android tablets are actually rubbish, not because of their hardware but because of the app store for android tablets - it's woefully under-represented. Most of the apps on the google play store are not tablet-optimised, which makes the decision to buy an iPad or Android Tablet that much easier to figure out.

For me current Android tablets just aren't anywhere close to being on par with the new iPad Pro. I came from Android a couple years ago and I have found the overall experience to be much more enjoyable in Apple's ecosystem. For example, app developers seem to put more polish and thought into Apple apps whereas so many apps on Android's store feel like cheap imitations.

The tough choice for me was deciding between the iPad Pro and a newer Surface tablet, but Microsoft has taken a very anti-privacy stance lately so I chose the iPad Pro (10.5)

It has been on sale, glad you got a good deal.

I got it for $299 and that price it's a great little tablet for media consumption, games, email, web browsing, etc. It has an excellent display and is every bit as responsive as my Air 2. It's been rock solid and I'm quite happy with it - in fact, since getting it, it probably sees more usage than my Air 2. I did put a 256GB uSD card in it.

This is going to sound fanboish, and I don’t mean it to, but Android tablets are garbage. Their tablets are not like the phones, which are fantastic. They have little support, not only app support, but also manufacturer support, and often are not terribly well built. While the iPhone has probably fallen behind Android’s best phones, the iPad is still miles ahead of any Android tablet.

I would disagree with your garbage comment. My Nexus 7's and Galaxy Tab S2 have been great.

As I already had an iPhone and an iPod (the original now obsolete " I have a thing in my pocket" iPod),the choice for me was simple when I bought my first iPad.
Unfortunately, when I bought that iPod so many years ago,it started a chain reaction. Right now,if I count,I had 2 iPods (both still working, one ooold one,and one iPod nano),2 ipads(first gen and Air 2),3 iPhones (3G,5,6) ,1 MacBook Pro and of course I just had to buy a Magic Mouse and an Apple Watch..... Cost me lots of money...

Fair enough. I have had a Galaxy Note 10.1, a Galaxy Note 2014 Edition and a Nexus 7 and found them to be subpar. The Galaxy Notes were definitely garbage and the Nexus 7 was cheaply built. On top of that, the app support was laughable, and the OS was clearly developed for a phone and not a tablet. Perhaps things have improved, but my sense is that they have not.

No problem. I see the flipside of this discussion over on the Android forums with similar predictable opinions about Apple and iOS. And on the Windows and Mac forums and Canon and Nikon forums ...

Very true! And I admit I am definitely biased, especially as I get older and have less time to research and tinker. I have gotten into Apple tunnel vision the last few years, which is becoming an issue with laptops and the direction Apple is taking them not being in line with what I would like to see. Makes me wonder what is on the other side.

I bought an Air 2 after using Android for years and having a visceral dislike for Apple and found I really liked it after I got used to the differences (sandbox!). I bought the Tab S2 because it was inexpensive and I wanted something smaller in addition to the Air 2. It is by far the best Android device I've owned - I like it better than my Galaxy S7 Edge phone - but if someone were to ask me advice on buying a larger tablet, I would say iPad without hesitation. The available hardware and apps are clearly superior.

Having been part of the mobile development industry since over 15 years I can safely say that I've tried out various types of tablets including both high end and budget android tablets.

This is my honest opinion about the whole tablet market - there's iPad and then there are others. There's simply no competition to the iPad and what Apple has created for the tablet market.

Whew! Easiest question I've ever been asked. I don't even have to think about this one

Basically? Because google and hardware makers haven't really even tried to make android on a tablet very good. It's like the laziest "hey let's blow up simple phone aops and call them tablet apps" kinds thing ever. And just in general, there's no single tablet I've ever gotten super excited about. There's a bunch of them with different names and different tacky designs and they all change so dramatically from one generation to the next and it seems like there's no unified simplistic vision of "hey. We're gonna make the best tablet on the market and it's gonna have a simplistic design language you recognize".

And with iPad, you can tell apple is very focused on a specific set of features that work very very well and that they will support the tablet like their entire business depends on it. I don't have to worry about them changing their mind one year and being like "ahhh. We're done with the tablet thing. We're gonna pivot to something else" and I stop getting support or something. No. And I always get to look forward to wwdc every year for the new big features I'm expected to get and it's like a yearly ritual. Wait for wwdc in June. See cool as hell features I can't wait to play with. Get the update in September and then enjoy a full year of solid stability updates and support from apple.

And just the general ecosystem is just so solid I can't imagine ever leaving. The apps are top notch and getting better. Two that come to mind are affinity photo and luma fusion and they both came out recently. Great pro apps. And it signals to me that the iPad is finally making the transition it needs into a more powerful machine.

And to top it all off: I think android tablets and my first thought is "tacky". So I've really jut given up on even giving them a chance anymore because I've been let down by so many non iPad tablets in the iPad I'm like....whatever. You've had so long to impress me. I give up on you

I'm too invested in the Apple ecosystem now.
I switched from windows to mac about 6 years ago after getting sick of junk laptops overheating.
I haven't had a none Apple phone since the 4.
I got a mini retina before it became the iPad mini 2 and it's still great, it just isn't big enough for reading text book PDFs on and is missing pencil support.
Add to that Apple Music and iCloud subscriptions and it would make no sense to buy a new tablet that wasn't an iPad.
