simply:

>8gb limit is way too small, my touch only just fits the bill with 16gb
>£270 + £45 a month for 18 months! get lost!
>its twice the thickness of my touch

I <3 my touch

Because it's something of a triumph of style over function as yet. I'm with 02 (UK iPhone carrier) and even replaced my handset at around the time the iPhone came out. Wound up buying a WM6 device with built-in GPS. It syncs to my Mac with Missing Sync, I have easy access to save files to and from the device (a feature I use daily at work) and can replace the microSD memory card, it has built-in GPS so runs TomTom and essentially works as a full-blown PDA. What I DON'T need, however, is either iTunes or video. On top of which, I got my current phone free with a cheaper contract than the basic iPhone package. No contest.

Let me lay it out in simple terms:

1. One iPhone (8GB) = $399 (+ tax if applicable)
2. One Add-On Service Plan for iPhone (If you are already an AT&T Customer) for 24-months = $480
3. An Activation Fee to activate the iPhone = $37

And a grand total of...$916 Hm...

Or go get an iPod touch (16 GB) for $399 (+ tax if applicable)

Seems liked an obvious choice to me... $916 or $399? I wonder...

Basically, you can buy TWO iPod touches (16 GB) for the same price of an activated iPhone that your bound to a contract with for two years. Unless you spend even MORE money to cancel your old contract, and get a new one!:D

I think a preschooler could have solved this mystery on why we bought an iPod touch over an iPhone...

The phone part has the one thing I actually DIDNT like about the iphone. The call quality was bad, you need those dumb bluetooth headsets to get a better quality. Plus I like clamshell phones that;s what I have plus I love my service with Sprint no way i'm changing!

The only reason I didn't get an iPhone is because I'm (and my entire family is) on Verizon. I have no plans to switch to at&t.

399€ just the Phone than a Tmobile (T mobile SUCKS!) for nearly 50€/month
just way to expenciv
and well there is a huge difference between 8gb and 16gb (not only that it is twize) but i have all over all like 10gb musik I am listening and welll the oder 5gb are for movies, Pics and apps.
Also cellphone are more likly to be stolen ... and you'll get really pissed if someone steal you phone.
thats why my cell is ony 75€ worth. :D

touch

i am perfectly fine withl carrying a touch which is nice and slim and also my razr. They dont take up much space together.

i am currently trying to get an iphone and sell my ipod. why? because i have a crappy service provider that keeps charging me crap from last month (which i have already paid). and i dont have to sign my life away at a 2 year contract because i could get it prepaid.

Because I don't need another phone.

My campus has wireless literally everywhere, so my iPod now doubles as a Calendar, To-Do List, Web Browser, Weather, and Email device, (since I jailbroke it).

It would have been nice to have a 80GB or 160GB iPod Touch, but all in all I have 2,000ish songs on a 16GB touch. I put it on Shuffle almost always, and change up the songs every few days. I rarely notice a difference between shuffling between 16GB of songs (iPod touch) and 100GB+ of songs (my entire library).
