Mainly not keen on having different two phone numbers and paying for another sim / data plan etc, carrying multiple phones, I suppose it’s mostly cost reasons plus everything I need fits onto a 64gb device easily
Depending on where you are, there are usually cheap options for prepaid SIMs.

Of course, I can afford to have 4 SIMs because data plans are highly affordable here. My main postpaid number is about $6.50 a month for 10GB, while for prepaid I can get as cheap as 65cents a month for 1GB (great for backup SIM). 😆

Yes, I am paying - but not as much as you might think.

I have a granfathered Simple Choice plan on T-Mobile from back when they had data caps. My plan gave me a choice between 2/6/10GB and Unlimited Data. When I got the line for that phone I chose the 2GB of data because I don't use that line very much (morning walks, etc).

It's $10/month for that line. A couple of years back, T-Mobile took away all the data caps - even on grandfathered plans and gave everybody (almost) unlimited data and hotspot for the same price they were originally paying.

So, now I have unlimited data and 2GB of hotspot monthly for $10 on that line. I'm not rich, in fact I'm pretty much paycheck to paycheck. But $10 a month for that I don't consider to be expensive.
Fair enough. $10 for unlimited data is impossible to beat.

What complicates this question is that Apple no longer sells the iPod touch.

So any small personal iOS device must be an iPhone, even if you don’t use it with cellular service or for any “phone” type activities.

I use an iPhone 6s as a work “phone” but it’s really just email, calendar, and slack.
I have another iPhone 6s that I use as an iPod. Just Spotify and my local radio station’s app.

I know a few folks that do something similar. Use an "extra" phone in a "wifi ipod" role.

I have two iPhones, both the 14 pro max because I have four lines on my account. The fourth line was for my photography business that never really took off. So I keep the line and upgrade the iPhone yearly anyway. I shoot a ton of iPhone photos in ProRAW so
It’s great having two iPhones for photography. One will be in my BeastCage, the other maybe on a tripod. But I carry both every day. It’s just my hobby now. I have a full time job anyway and do photography when I have the free time.

Primary iPhone 12 PM - VZW unlimited
Backup iPhone 13 Mini - TM $15 plan

I use the mini for areas where Verizon data is slow or at work when Verizon WiFI Calling is finicky.

Primary Phone: 13 Pro Max
Work Phone: Z Fold 4
Camera phones: 2x 14 Pro Max

Both the 14 Pro Max's give me more angle when taking photos on tripod with 4K ProRes & 40 MP ProRAW. [as if I have two other people with me, but don't].

Sometimes, I use all 4 phones for a "Box-shot." Mostly used for vehicle, jewelry photography.

My personal phone is a 13 pro. My work-issued phone is an SE 2022. They would pay my cell bill if I just used my personal device, but it's not worth it. My cell bill is $21/month with T-Mobile (Magenta family military plan with six lines).

I work in clinical healthcare and absolutely do not want to discuss patient issues on my personal phone, via email, text, or otherwise. Too much liability, plus I can leave my work at work on the weekends.

I have two phones because I keep the US app store/iTunes on the main one, and I need another phone for certain apps (e.g. car charging) that are geo-locked to EU.

iPhone 8 (gifted to a co-worker for her son's first phone)
iPhone 8 in reserve (second one)
iPhone 13 Pro Max (just replaced, put in reserve)
iPhone 14 Pro (new, replacing the 13PM)
Google Pixel 5 (training device in the ways of Android)

Because some people buy stuff because they want it. Not everyone operates by the creed of 'only get/own' what you need.
And that's half the problem with the First World right there.

Why not get "real" cameras for this setup?

Why is that a problem?
We only consume, we do not produce. That’s a big problem given that our way of life is completely unsustainable and we rely on non-First World countries to make everything for us.

Yes. I have thought and considered having DLSR cameras that can match 4K/ProRes. There are exceeding expensive. $6K just for one camera.

Plus they’re basic. Just point and shoot. There’s no “on device edits”. No on-device extraction with multi-can editing”.

With my iPhone’s I can extract and edit all video files together on the go.

Only other phone I have is a OG Motorola razr, I should see if it turns on, but I kept it because it’s in great shape and looks wise probably the best looking cell phone

Outside from that my old phones ether get traded in or wiped and given to family/friends

I have:
14 Pro Max (personal)
12 (work phone)
11 (side business)
SE 2022 (sitting as a backup)

Just wondered as I see alot of owned phones in signatures etc, I've never had two phones at the same time. Do you have two sims or use the same sim card in both and keep swapping etc, or do you not have a sim in the other, or just keep the other around in case something happens to your main phone?
Own a personal phone and a work phone. Just like to keep those 2 parts of my life separate. And the restrictions imposed by my company on personal phones used for business are too locked down to be practical.

IPhone 13 PM - Personal with 2 active lines

Samsung S23 Ultra - Business with 2 active lines

Backups with 1 active line on each :

Samsung S22 Ultra - Vehicle 1
Samsung Note 20 Ultra - Vehicle 2
IPhone 13 mini - Vehicle 3
IPhone 12 Pro - Vehicle 4

We 2 have Three for Three Carriers (TMO, VZ & ATT) as we travel and not all carriers get 4 bars in the same place. All 3+ years old iPhones, $60 total/mo for all 3 plans, all cost $100 or less. We use them as phones and carry a MBA/iPad for data.

> just keep the other around in case something happens to your main phone?
As we two can only use 2 at one time, the third is really a spare.

> use the same sim card in both and keep swapping?
Too easily dropped/lost IMO and for a spare one can get a phone under $100 and a plan for $10/mo - very inexpensive insurance.

I have three phones:
14 Pro Max on AT&T is my "home" phone and in my pocket always.
13 Pro Max is my business phone, but I have pretty much retired and don't really need it, but I like to keep it as a backup. It is now on Mint. I may eventually drop this one.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is my portable computer, either as a standalone or using Dex. I have hundreds of tech manuals, reports, spreadsheets, tax documents, contact lists, manuscripts of articles I've written, and Kindle books on the phone. I have it connected on Mint, but almost never make calls, but do use data when out and about. I have various apps on this phone that aren't available on Apple. It has replaced the laptop I lugged about for years.

I thought we would be getting work phones since we are forced to download a bunch of apps and actively use our phones at work, but apparently not. So I am using my 14 pro max only. The only reason I would have two is if I had a dedicated work phone. Since we got the no on work phones I have toyed with the idea og buying a used 11 or se for work so that alle apps/emails/teams are on that phone and not taking up space or battery on my 14 pro max. But it seems a waste to spend money on that ultimately
