I agree that iMessage is the best although Apple needs to take some of the features from WhatsApp.

But my biggest issue is, why after all these years ‘group messaging’ is still utter crap. Why do I get multiple conversations, completely disjointed. It’s frustrating.

No offense intended, but it sounds to me like it's the OP struggling with Messages, not Apple. I also prefer iMessage over any of the other messaging apps. For me, it just works. Good luck finding what works best for you.

so people dont communicate any other way than using sms with android/windows/linux people?

Android messaging is a hot mess. Hence why people use Skype, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, Snap, Insta and whatever else you want.

Sorry but I want all my comms in ONE app. Not 6 different ones. Anything owned by FB is a NO GO. Period. I don't care if 100 billion people use it. I'm glad it works for them. 98% of the people I talk to, have iPhones. Those that don't, get SMS. The end. I don't want to guess what new app their using, nor do I want to have several apps just to talk to 1 person.

iMessage has some bugs, no doubt but its by far and away, the best messaging app on iOS, period! Syncs to all my devices.

Besides, who doesn't have their mobile next to them all the time anyways? Also, are you really using linux as an example? Lol

iMessage refuses to send texts to to one of my contacts using my iPad, no problems with iPhone. Messages to other contacts works fine from the iPad.

Is it sending as a text or iMessage on the other devices? If it's sending from one and not the other, the message thread is invalid. Delete it and start again.

I love iMessage and use it almost exclusively (where possible) but I've had issues with messages in the cloud. Half the time it just doesn't sync. I can turn the laptop on and keep messages open for an hour and I'll still have messages sitting on the laptop from weeks ago that I've deleted on other devices.
That’s weird. The only issue I’ve had is when I look at messages on my iPad is it sometimes splits sent and received messages into two separate texts
