Apple is a publicly held corporation, they disclose sales to investors. Look at a chart through Q4 2009. Or the latest report, which indicated that they hit a quarterly record for Macs sold and a 33% increase year-on-year.

I'm not a Mac person (just iPods ;) ), but I personally have seen several people I know switch, and Apples' sales numbers are qualitative data that backs up my assertion.

EDIT: Oh, and the majority of people who graduated in my high school macs proceeded to get MBPs. When I say a majority did, I mean more than half, and I think it would be safer to say 75%+. There's a reason why this picture exists :D

Yeah but how much bigger % are PC sales up year over year from 09-10? It might not be 33% but probably close. Fact is everyone is upgrading their computers in the last few months. Be more objective now. I just bought my Pavilion 2 months ago and Mini just a week ago. So that's 1 PC and 1 Mac in 2 different quarters from 1 customer!

Sure that looks like a lot of macs but thats because the picture was taken in a place where macs are popular (uni). I bet for every picture like that you could get 100 pictures with just PCs.

My school has probably more than 200 quad core PCs, and one mac lab. It is an example of how with proper work he whole system can work perfectly because I've never seen any comp at school crashed, Mac or PC.

I remember back in elementary school we only had macs in our computer lab. However, I think that in 2nd or 3rd grade the school system switched over to Windows.

After three consecutive quarters of decline in 2009, PC sales grew by 2.3% in Q4 2009.

And in Q2 2010, Macs broke 4% marketshare worldwide for the first time in fifteen years (Apple is over 9% in the US). Up half a percent of worldwide marketshare in one quarter alone. That's HUGE for one company.

Macs are gaining marketshare- even though PC sales growth is occurring, Mac sales are growing faster.

I think Windows 7 was one of the reasons why PC marketshare went back up last fall. People were sick of Vista and were relieved to know that Microsoft had come out with something better.

When I was in first grade, my elementary school's computer lab had all orange G3 iMacs. Like 40 of them, and they were about a year old when I was there. And the saddest part is, they didn't sell them at a surplus auction or anything, they threw all of them away- keyboards, mouses, documentation, and the machines themselves :(

Schools nowadays can't really justify spending all that money on a luxury. When I have to do research in class and we go to the computer lab or whatever, I don't use their crap I use my Touch. Way more functionality.

I would disagree with some of the comments above that windows licences are cheap. I know that in the uk at least, many local authorities use windows computers from RM, who add their own networking and educational software to the server and clients. The licensing costs for this seem to end up at £200 to £300 per machine. Although this includes an office licence, xp and Microsoft server client access, macs would probably be cheaper.

What a waste of good computers! Those G3 iMacs are like tanks and can STILL go strong as word-processing machines. :/

My dad got to see just about every Mac computer as they came out because the schools he worked at have had them ever since Apple II. My first one being a that was thrown out - MacPaint was the default boot and it had a HUGE floppy drive. No idea which one it was.
