Just 3% of U.S. iPhone Sales in March Quarter Were iPhone 13 Mini Models
The 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini continues to be unpopular with customers, according to U.S. iPhone sales data for the March quarter that was shared by...www.macrumors.com
Unfortunately, for Apple, the mini is simply a decoy product to increase the price of the regular iPhone by $100 without anybody noticing. Once the market accepted that the regular iPhone is $799, their next step is to upsell by introducing the iPhone Max. The mini has served its purpose and won't be continued.
I mean, 3% of iPhone sales is still A LOT of sales.
Sales are fantastic. They raised the price of the iPhone by $100, and only lost 3% of sales to a different iOS device. If they priced it correctly then why are the sales so bad? I'm a Mini lover but it was too expensive because for the extra $100 you could get the 13 with a bigger screen and better battery life which the majority of folks want.
Now if you dropped the Mini storage from 128gb to 64gb, kept the rest of specs, and priced it at $599 then it could have taken more market share and maybe convinced SE buyers to step up so we can finally get rid of that ancient design. The SE currently costs $429 so IF the 13 Mini costs $599 its just enough for both devices to be relevant yet when the regular 13 only costs $100 more than the Mini it, in turn, made the Mini a harder sale thus more irrelevant.
So true. Here are some better names, just off of the top of my head:I could see them issuing a new mini every 2-4 years, like they've done with the iPad Mini. So maybe a iPhone 16 mini.
I adore my 13 mini (and the 12 before that). I like that I have a modern phone that fit in my gym shorts with fear of falling out. Or in my back jeans pocket without poking out the top. My wife has a regular 13 and I cannot believe how big and unwieldy it is.
Honestly I think the "mini" name doomed the product. It implies less than and inferiority. If it were named iPhone Air, for example, for parity with the iPad and Mac lines, sales would have been better.
I like these ideas - or even "iPhone Nano."So true. Here are some better names, just off of the top of my head:
Instead they copied the iPod naming, iPod, iPod mini, and expected it to work. The iPod mini was a less featured iPod, with smaller everything including battery life and storage space (due to physical constraints at the time). It also was the first iPod to get the color treatment, so I'm sure that boosted sales too. The iPhone Mini is literally a full sized iPhone that got put through a shrink ray, and the name does not imply that at all.
- iPhone ME, for Miniature Edition (but importantly has "me" implying ownership)
- iPhone SE, for Small Edition, and a throwback to the SE it replaces
- iPhone Pocket, because it fits in a pocket
It's a lackluster performer in terms of sales. Apparently people want bigger screens.I've heard that Apple is going to cancel the iPhone miniseries this year. But why? That was a great phone.
Agreed. The non-Max size of the Pro iPhone provides best phone to screen ratio. The consenus seems to be that it sells below Apple‘s expectations.
As to why that is, we can obviously only speculate. For me, the battery life was a big reason to go for the „regular size“ 13 Pro instead. But I also only upgrade phones every few years, so when I do, I usually want the product with all features available at the time.
Wait until next year. At least on AT&T, I've noticed that they always have the discontinued models available for a long time afterward, at a reduced rate. When I got my iPhone 13 Pro last year, I saw iPhone 12's and 11's available for a much cheaper price than what they originally sold at.Wonder if I should snag one for my granddaughter before they go for good? She probably won’t get a phone til next year, but it might be worth holding on to. I want to get her that blush colored one.
Because, if you hadn't noticed, the world is full of people imbecile, and these imbeciles vote and buy products, so something has to sell.I've heard that Apple is going to cancel the iPhone miniseries this year. But why? That was a great phone.
Doubling the frame rate would absolutely destroy the battery life.I have an idea!
Maybe Apple should work on introducing iPhone Mini Pro? Just throw in better battery life and 120Hz. Pro-Motion?
But only if it is running 120 Hz all the time. ProMotion would drop said frame rate to 10 fps if you're displaying static content, too, which would help battery life in turn.Doubling the frame rate would absolutely destroy the battery life.
Do you have any idea how many phones 3% is to Apple? It's a lot. And they have their place. My folks both just got Minis. They don't like the big phones. Why?

If they’re dropping the mini how am I gonna fit my next iPhone in my pocket? I hope my 12 mini will last for many years.
My phone is always by itself in my pocket. It’s a damn fine decoy.
Sell me some more decoys to go with my other decoys in my decoy collection.
It’s indignified to carry something as nice as an iPhone in a pocket where keys can scratch the screen and candy or gum can get stuck in the charging port. An iPhone really deserves a bag or holster.
Agreed, carriers always tend to overstock themselves with devices and they later sell at loss.Wait until next year.
