My wife has an 8 Plus for like a week now and there is nothing major in day to day use vs my 7 Plus.

The X grew on me a bit even though I initially hated it.

Yeah- the 256GB 8 Plus is only $50 cheaper than the 64GB X. If you're going to drop that amount, might as well just splurge for the X.

But I got an extra 192GB, a bigger/wider screen, Touch ID, the same wireless charging and the same processor...

... without having to wait until sometime in 2018...

... for $50 less!

Door #3 paid off! Thanks Monty!

Can anyone tell me whats so great about TrueTone? Honest question. I have it on my iPad and i find it actually annoying. It turns everything more orange just not as bad as night shift?

For me it’s personal preference. TrueTone is supposed to make the screen look more natural, and it does its job. It’s easier on the eyes because the light is the same temperature as the surrounding light.

Lol, this is exactly why Apple's upsell strategy is such a runaway success. And then if you're going to spend $999 on the 64 GB X, may as well just spend $150 more and get the 256. ;)

In some ways I agree, it only depends on how much usage somebody really needs with their iPhone based on what they use it for. But I always say it's better to have more storage than less.

that 150$ extra is a big amount tough to swallow. Im going to downgrade my 7+ 128 to 64 because I think 1150 for a phone is ridiculous and I have 35 gigs left over from my 128.
Still think apple is showing its true colors now dropping the 128 and making the storage so drastic with big jumps in price.
They should of kept 128 to keep customers happy and not their own pockets.

So as yall may have seen I posted pictures of my recently returned iPhone 8 Plus (64GB) and let me tell you why I returned it. It was a snappy phone with a great camera but coming from an iPhone 7 Plus 128GB, 64GB was just not going to cut it... I kept trying to tell myself oh i only use 30GB but that didn't change anything. The glass back was nice and all but when i put a case on i felt like why the hell did i just spend $799 on the same phone i already had? Wireless charging was cool and all but 3 hours to charge at 100% was just like WTF? Ill just plug it in and continue to use my phone, the only time i enjoyed wireless charging was when i was sleeping....
The only real thing that i did enjoy was true tone! GOD I MISS THAT TRUE TONE.....(Cries internally)

Honestly looks like ill be sticking with my iPhone 7 plus for 1 more year why apple decides to give their customers really want!

I fully agree! They squeeze every penny out of us they can. Plus the recurring cost of iCloud, apps and accessories. However last year I was on a Samsung and hated it Every, Single Minute. So I paid for what I could afford x2 cause the wife. Now I'm much happier and the wife is too.
Reviewing the post it makes sense to upgrade every couple of years. Skip the X and get the X plus when comes out. I think the 7plus is the best cash for value for now. The X plus (when it comes out) will have all the bugs and proper cpu speed to make that a killer phone.

the iPhone X is a true example of this.
This iPhone X is, mostly, a phone for the true loyal Apple customer, because just let's be honest, if Apple priced the base model, let's say, $1079/€1199 for the 64Gb model and 256Gb for $1229/€1389 there would always be a way to justify this price tag.
And Apple is very aware of this ofcourse.
This iPhone X is not for the mass, its a phone for the ones who have a desire to always have the latest of the latest when it comes to a new Apple product. The price tag is almost irrelevant here.

(and now I'll just wait for the first poster here to defend Apple in this matter :p )

That's sad. The X with only 64 GB is $50 more than the 8 Plus that has 256 GB. Plus you get a smaller screen with that extra $50.
Not that I want an X or an 8 but the X has a bigger screen than the 7/8 Plus models in a smaller form factor/thinner bezels. Take away the part with the notch and then it’s same size screen if I’m not mistaken.

As for OP, yeah that was me too. I usually skip the S upgrades and basically saw the 8 as an S or even an S squared. lol. So I did not bother upgrading since I wouldn’t use wireless charging, the extra GBs, or the new photo features. I keep my Apple products in great shape but can almost vividly remember where all scratches were on the back of my 4 after 2 years. So if I put a case on it it looked just like a 7 Plus and what’s the point.

I’d probably agree with you on truetone though haven’t seen it. The only reason I’d upgrade to an 8 Plus or even the X is to have a phone more powerful than my MacBook Pro in benchmarks. I opted for a new watch this year and will wait until next year for a new iPhone -that is if I don’t spoil myself with a Note 8 l before then.

I really wanted Apple to put the TouchID on back of the X pending their placement of the wireless charging coils ... how sweet would it be to use your index finger (where so many cases already have a cutout already) for Touch ID - built into the Apple logo on the back. boom, Marketing win.

True Tone corrections are dependent on ambient light.

Different light sources are compensated for differently, just like how everything you see in the world is slightly altered by light sources.

It might not be for the mass in your eyes but it will be the phone everyone wants this year. Im curious how sales will be. I think it will be better than any other launch as far as sellouts and waiting times.
No comparison to the 8 launch that seemed to of been pretty dead.

I had a iPhone 6S > iPhone SE > Now I'm using an iPhone 8 Plus.

I have until Wednesday to decide if I'm going to take it back or not, but right now I think I'm going to keep it. I've actually gotten quite used to the form factor. I decided to skip on the X, for it's a first generation product. I want to give it a year and see what Apple does to improve it next year. I have no complaints about the 8/8+ body styles. They are proven builds, if it's not broke, don't fix it. It's just a phone, I don't need it to look all fancy and futuristic. I see it as a tool. But I'm loving the bigger screen, it's been serving as a nice tablet alternative for me, reading, typing, and viewing media is much more gentle on the eyes compared to my SE. I haven't had too much trouble pocketing it. Around the house it lays on a desk, or a piece of furniture, in the office, it lays on my desk. In my car? It rests in the center console, and when I'm walking around in about, I don't really feel it in my pocket that much more then I did with my SE.

I haven't decided 100$, but I'll most likely be keeping it.

It’s not like we were discussion the multi-flex points and flex ratings on the newer sticks or anything.
Which by the way is extremely important for shorter players.

too high of a price tag tbh

Right...you get double the storage at 256GB than you did last year for the same cost.

How come it wasn't an issue last year?

I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. There is so much bashing going on over the design of the 8/8+. It’s a refined tool that works as it is supposed to.

The 6S was refined. The 7 is perfect. There’s no need for the 8 besides just small upgrades. The 7 should of been the last design of this generation.
