Except there are. There's not buying the new model in the first place. Unfortunately people got this mindset that a device either ceases to exist or will get instantly hacked once support ends. Even if they do the exact same things with the exact same apps as they did a decade ago.

You have to remember that a lot of apps/platforms are now so tied to online service backends that just "not buying new models" (or updating Apps, or both) isn't as viable as it once was as a strategy.

The planet can't handle our current rate of consumption. We need to SLOW DOWN. Tech just isn't innovating anymore and there's no reason to go for a new phone these days. they've hardly changed unless you count making them the size of a basketball player's hands and adding in tons of cameras as if that's all that matters. The days of true innovation have ceased in favor of cookie cutter nonsense much like everything else from cars to houses to appliances.

I totally agree with all of that!
I just have no idea what to do about it..

It sure didn't help that all the competition is gone. Today it's just Android vs. iOS. Samsung/Google/Microsoft/Apple.

There used to be more innovation back when it was WebOS/BlackBerry/Nokia Symbian/Meego/Android/iPhone OS/Palm OS/etc etc etc

Why is it that Microsoft got into a huge antitrust case for being a monopoly but when we literally live on one today, it's all fine and dandy because Apple done it?

None of the apps I've been using since my first Android tablet in 2009 have changed. Sure I've added a couple like Samsung Health and Kroger into my life but none of them force anything from me. I have either edited the APK in a hex editor to disable that or uninstall them if they so much as pull that crap later on. Overall, my uses for a smartphone involve the exact same apps and versions since 2009. Dolphin Browser Mini, UC Browser, AOSP Music, ES File Explorer, various remote apps, Kindle, Audible, all old versions. They all work fine. Use literally 1/8th the RAM/resources of the S20 FE. I even got a collection of non-freemium mobile games like old copies of Angry Birds 1.6.2, Cut the Rope, Plants vs. Zombies, Bug Smasher, Fruit Ninja and so on.
