Why is everything not AppleOS so ugly?

I don't criticize everything Apple. I am just the opposite POV to those that criticize everything Samsung in this thread.
I have had every iPhone since day one and upgrade every year. This year will be no different.
But i can also see the truth and not blinded by brand name.
I have a 17PM and S26U and Pixel 10 XL and upgrade all 3 every year......Heck i probably use the 17PM and AW2 most all and I am loving the IOS 27 public beta. Siri is much improved!
But just because I am an Apple fan it doesn't mean I hate everything NOT Apple either.

I'm sorry. It seems my snark was misdirected. I probably need to take a break from this site, as I'm quite over the vast quantities of reflexive hate for everything Apple that I often see around here. I should dial down the snark. Again, sorry for that.

I'm not a fan of Samsung Mobile, and do not like Android, but I'm really glad it exists. Choice is good.

Should have seen this place when Lion and iOS 6 launched.
Easy to forget now, but the Steve and Scott corinthian leather and gray linen era wasn’t exactly received with high praise here.

Neither was the 3-D space look of Mac OS X leopard, or the brushed metal look of its predecessors. Pretty much no Apple design has been well received here on this website, despite most of them being well received outside of it.

Hah, yeah, is there anything this forum has liked when Apple released it? Maybe the M1?

Not even that, I remember even months after the first M1 computers launched, people saying, with absolutely no evidence, that this was a sign that Apple was going to lock down macOS to being App Store only, you’d never be able to download a third-party app from outside of the App Store again, and the entire Macintosh platform had become nothing but an iPad like toy.
I would say these people have spent the last six years eating crow, but then when the M1 came to the iPad, they started saying the same thing again. And then when the MacBook Neo was introduced, they were saying the same thing again.
And yet you can still download third-party applications from outside of the App Store, even on a MacBook Neo.
In fact, with international law putting even more pressure on Apple and Google, it’s very likely that the iPhone and iPad will become significantly more Mac like over the next decade than the other way around.


I’ve said it before, people, especially Apple fans, love nothing more than to see Apple fail. It gives them some type of fuel, it’s an energy source.
To these people, if Apple succeeds, it must be an iPhone level success and nothing less. And if they fail, they must be forced back into 1996 levels, weeks from bankruptcy. Anything more is just A complete and total moral failing on everybody.
Exhibit a: the Vision Pro. You either think it’s the future of technology, or you think it’s such a colossal failure that it should cause Tim Cook to lose his job and the entire collection of 400,000 Apple employees to be fired and the company to go bankrupt. Absolutely nothing in between, no nuance.

Exhibit B: liquid glass. If Apple makes tweaks in response to critical feedback, it’s either an abandonment of the original concept of liquid glass to those who like it, or an admitting of Apple failures and another reason Tim Cook should be fired along with all of the 400,000 Apple employees to those who don’t like it. No nuance, just black and white.

Generally speaking if you have a Pixel, Samsung, Motorola or even a Nothing device there is very little bloatware going off. NothingOS in particular is by far the cleanest OS 'skin layer' on the market being monochrome dashed with a little bit of orange and blue here and there. You can also do some useful ergonomics features like being able to click app icons inside a 2x2 folder without opening it. This lets me put my 12-18 most used apps all within easy reach of my thumb on a 6.7" screen.

The killer for me is the support for those phones. I've got 12pro max. It was run over by a car. It works. I will get ios 27 and possibly ir will even be faster. Nothing goes to trashcan in 2-3 years.

I mean, I might have spat the dummy myself upon learning of the design changes in 27, but you're 100% right.

I daily a Nothing 1 from 2022 and my backup is a Huawei P20 Pro from 2018. If well looked after these phones last.

Isn’t it weird that there is exactly one company who puts a lot of work into the design of their OS and all other manufacturers (Google, Microsoft, Linux developers) can only produce extremely ugly UI elements? Is it really that hard to make a great looking, minimalist but modern UI? Android looks like a children’s toy (and like a cheap one, from the dollar store). Microsoft looks like someone stitched together garbage and painted it over with a shiny color… Linux… well Linux KDE and Gnome both look unrefined to me. KDE looks like a worse version of Windows while Gnome looks brutish and unsophisticated. Are “good looks” just not important to the average person?

Because of Steve Jobs. Jobs had taken a Calligraphy class when he was in college, and got really into fonts, and beauty in design. It carried over in the design of Mac OS and later, the physical design of Apple devices.

its not about good looks only. It about UX. when you use Apple software its intuitive. Competitors you have to jump hoops. Further more there is a design language for apps that does not exist on Linux wild west ecosystem, so Apple is coherent with stuff like menus, buttons, etc. Steve Jobs genius was in making computers to use as simple as an appliance. "It just works!" . This was in an era where people were still typing in commands in a text only screens and no mouse.

Thats being said, after like 10 years of Jobs death current apple software is no where as good as it was and its going downhill.
