I believe you are misunderstanding my point. They aren't separate Search fields, they are the same Search accessed in two different ways. They can't have different functionality because they aren't unique objects.

I'm not trying to say you're absolutely wrong and I'm absolutely right, but proactive's search could maybe be containing a feature that is currently impossible to see unless iOS 9 apps are allowed, is what I'm saying. Maybe they are identical, but the only way we can prove either of us wrong is just waiting until iOS 9's official release (unless we manage to edit the source code)

All are certainly possibilities. In either case though, it doesn't really make having the search in the proactive area (in addition to the usual swipe down location) problematic or bad in some way.

Perhaps slightly at first and likely to just some. Plenty of people don't even use the regular search at all and many don't even know about it at all (some of whom might come across it by accidentally pulling down on the home screen, often not even realizing what happened). In either case, those who use search or will use search will simply end up doing it from one or both of the places depending on what's convenient for them at the moment, while others will continue not using it.

I also feel quite confused and I agree with what OP says.
Apple should combine both of them into one place, which is the pulling down search.
Current configuration is a duplicate.
