There is no way i'm buying the iTampon until it can run OS X. So the MBA and MBP's are still better value.  doesn't want cannibalization between products I guess. The day they release MBPs with multi-touch screens and keyboards is the day I'll be waiting for. That'll be the real break-through

Sure it will, and then we'll have everyone complaining that it's not as intuitive as the iPhone OS.

Tell me again why they should release a multi touch screen for the MBP?

I have an HP Touchsmart which was cool for about 2 days. Go to best buy and play with one. Open some apps, minimize them, close them, right click, use the scroll bar, resize windows, click some checkboxes, use the file menu. Try not to go crazy as you miss the target half the time and spend the other half making sure you're zeroing in right on the exact 10 pixels you need. Desktop OSs do not work with fingers and the market has spoken - no styluses.

No that'll be the day everyone will think it will be amazing and then all the overhyped fanboys will cry over how its not a true macbook pro. Seriously, I like Apple products too, but they're also a corporation that owes its customers nothing.

Though using the normal Snow Leopard with a touch screen would suck hardcore. That's no reason to make it Just a big iPhone.

How about the power of leopard with the touch user interface of the iPhone os?

Not a iPhone for giants.

Other than multitasking, what exactly is this magical "power of leopard" that it is missing?

disappointing that there is not full snow leopard on iPad

hello,

I thought that the iPad was going to have pretty much everything on it. I would of thought that they would have atleast put snow leopard onto this device with limited features. Rather than using the iPhone software as a base for the software. I will probably still buy one because it can come in useful but i think that Apple have failed with the features that they have put into the device

I wanted a Macpad not an iPad

There is alot of dissapointment following apple announcement of the iPad, (ipod touch on steriods) as mnay of the rumors claimed it would be much better than it was.

When it first started gaining momentum i was hoping for a 9inch OSX powered tablet, that would have multitasking and a full web browser, basically OS X but for tablet, 3rd party apps would be amazing to have on a tablet device.

However it seems apple disapointed me aswell as a lot of people,

For apples second revision what would you like to see?
Leave a list below, but be realistic, no USB 3.0 and the suck like.

Heres what i would have liked

OS X powered
Multitasking
Third party applications
USB 2.0 x2
iSight camera
Stylus and handwriting recognition and input
SD card slot
More RAM
A HDD option for those of us who want more storage than 64GB
High definition video playback
GPS
More RAM
Video out
Some sort of game pad for gaming
Some sort of flash support, (would be available if it had OS X)

And you needed to start yet another thread when there's 10 or so other threads saying the same thing?

Why isn't it based of the Mac OS X platform

Maybe I missed this story but hearing the reports saying it was a giant iphone and it was based the iphone OS was kinda...weird. After taking a look at it, it does nothing to me, no flash or multitasking is kinda necessary but whatever.

So, is their a tech reason why it is not off Mac OS X?

Probably because it was a lot cheaper and easier to just stretch the iPhone OS/interface to fill a tablet than to redesign OSX to work well on the smaller device/use multitouch. I don't think this is the best product Apple could have made, but maybe it was the best they could do by January 2010.

I can see your point, that was want I wanted too, but the more I thought about it, I thought about this:

The Mac OS X was built for the mouse and the pointer. Would you think it'll be practical to use your everyday apps you use on your mac with a touchscreen? That was the problem with Tablet PC with Windows.

With the iPhone OS esque interface however, it's way more intuitive and natural. However, I do agree with you that there should be SD/USB ports for easy file transfer without a computer, iSight, handwriting, multitasking, video out, etc.

Basically a more open system with 3rd party apps without the app store, a central file storage system like the mac, etc.

Mac OS X needs more processing power than the iPhone OS, and the iPhone OS is build around touch and multi-touch, so it was the better candidate.

Also the iPad is a consumer device with some creating tools added like the iWork apps and others will follow too, so the iPhone OS, tailored for consuming habits, was a better suit to fit it in.

Mac OS X is made for consuming media too, but it is also a very good fit to create something (not media alone) which is better done the old-fashioned way in this day and age.

When the processing power will fit into iPad-size like devices, we might see an iPad (or other device with a different name) with a derivative of Mac OS X, like the iPhone OS, which is derived from Mac OS X.

My reply was to Dany M's post (which was a thread while I hit reply).

People are obsesed with some software issues, but don't you notice that this could change in any moment?

Ok, The yesterday version of iPad isn't multitasking, but it could be in the next update of iPhone OS, and I bet that it will be.

The same with Flash, although with the new HTML5 maybe flash isn't needed anymore. And as you can tell, flash plugin for Unix/Linux platoform is totally crap.

Then you want a MacBook Pro, not a tablet. You were NEVER going to squeeze all this into a tablet in 2010.

Flash will always be needed. HTML5 doesn't replace it. Flash is a staple development tool for the web. Browsing with with lack of support is pathetic.

THIS IPAD IS A BIG FAIL!!!!!!!!!

Seriously. It´s nothing but a bigger eliminated iPhone! No camera, no phone, no mobility... The iPhone OS was a huge mistake! An easy way out! No way this will ever replace iPhone or MacBook Pro or even be a good "middle product", it´s useless!

I mean what use does this have? Nothing! It´s useless, if you already have an iPhone and a Mac at home. You can´t carry this around in your pocket like the iPhone, so only place to use it pretty much is at home and home you probably have already a Mac with OS X.

They kept going how good it is for photos and video, but there isn´t even a camera to shoot photos or video! And who would watch movies on this? Not me!

With full OS X this could have been a hit product! But now it´s just a huge fail, a flop, a beautiful useless toy and only few people will buy it for their "gearlust".

They really need to get OS X on it in the next version! Even if by dual boot or something...

All this hype for nothing!

p.s. And where´s the i5 MacBook Pros and 12-core Mac Pros? I hope they didn´t spend all this time only making this useless product.
