But those are the things that we desire, not a bigger iPhone. This thing is SOOO far from what I wanted (or honestly have a use for, I have an iPhone, a Kindle, and a MacBook Pro with a 3g card, what am I gaining???)..

If you got those things you would just be getting another macbook pro in a tablet form. It would serve no purpose for you, would probably be much more clunky, big and heavy. If thats what you wanted then I'm sorry Apple didn't make it. Though I hear many companies are making windows based, clunky machines that would fit your purposes perfectly.

You also forgot that all the Graphics, Audio, and Input API's are completely different. One couldn't simply re-compile for the x86 processor, they would have to re-write a good bit of code.

OK, and how would this change if Apple released a tablet that ran OS X?

(Actually very little code would need to be rewritten. All of the iPhone OS graphics and audio libraries already exist in x86 form as part of the SDK. In fact the only thing I can think of that would have to change is to allow them to use regular keyboard input).

When you compare Mac OS to "Mobile" OS styles, you can see that the interface was clearly designed for the platform. Like somebody said before, you don't want to have to resize windows with your fingers, or try to click the close button and click minimize instead. The buttons on the mobile OS are big and spread out.

But this is where my dilemma comes in. If I have a desktop, a macbook and and ipod touch - where does the iPad fit in? It's no replacement as Apple made very clear; it's a whole new category. So as great as it looks, I need a portable machine that also runs the OS I use at home (which, as I've said already is not a good idea at all).

There is no way i'm buying the iTampon until it can run OS X. So the MBA and MBP's are still better value.

Tablets running MS Windows with desktop UI apps have been a monster FAIL. Why would Apple want to repeat that mistake with Desktop UI OS X?

iPads (which run Touch UI OS X) will outsell MBA's, proving that the simpler devices are a better value for a larger number of customers.

THIS IPAD IS A BIG FAIL!!!!!!!!!

No way this will ever replace iPhone or MacBook Pro or even be a good "middle product", it´s useless!

They really need to get OS X on it in the next version! Even if by dual boot or something...

All this hype for nothing!

1. You seem so smart in pointing out that this will never replace the iphone or mpb. ding ding! its NOT supposed to!

2. they will never have OS X on there since thats why tablets have never been popular in the first place cause they use a regular PC OS... see the trend here?

3. apple didn't creat the hype, people (you) did. you set up out of this world expectations that weren't met and when reality struck, guess what happens?
