Say's you. You have no idea the reasoning, you just feel it's not legitimate.

For all we know there could be a hugely complicated issue on iPadOS 14 that prevented Ape from proceeding with this.

Have you guys never jailbroken an iOS device and had it do hugely complicated things Apple couldn't overcome in the exact same iOS? Apparently not. It is not controversial that Apple is very very slow in implementation of features that are completely possible. This should not be news to anyone here, but I suppose it is.

Again, quit assuming you know everything. You don't.

Jailbreak tweaks are jailbreak tweaks - that is they're written outside the Apple ecosystem.

Tweaks have the potential to make the OS unstable because it can overwhelm the Jetsam rules that iPadOS controls.

Quit thinking you know everything. You don’t. Thousands of people have implemented jailbreak modifications that worked perfectly fine only to have Apple implement them sooner or later.

Originality is not your strong spot I guess.

I'm also going to assume you have no idea what Jetsam is either. If you did you'd know why it can be a major PITA for certain tweaks.

If you want to believe all tweaks are as solid as the proverbial rock, then I've some lovely beachfront property to sell you in Oklahoma...

Everything Apple does is great? Got it. Clever comment about the beachfront property in Oklahoma. Very original. Your strong suit I presume.

What’s the reason for the iPad not having the same widget implementation as the iPhone? It’s even better suited for it than the iPhone. What’s the deal? Will Apple change it by GM? Thoughts?
Thats a great question. To be honest this is a great opportunity to put out a calculator widget, instead of saying there trying to find the best way to use the interface of the ipad for a calculator... I dont need a full screen calculator, but a widget would be sufficient. I hope they do change that cause my iPad desktop has no icons.

It comes across as quite childish quoting my words back to me. Reminds me of "I am rubber, you are glue". There's a reason I spoke of originality...

I gave you a very good technical reason about tweak instability due to Jetsam which you've totally ignored.

In fact all you've done is attack my words, you've not actually come back with any sort of technical response.

But don't take just my word for this: this is just one example of the issues:

You said something unoriginal after telling me I am unoriginal and I pointed it out. Very childish of me.

Yes, that completely proves that Apple cannot implement anything more than they do.

I am sorry that I dared suggest Apple could do something that they did not. I am crazy like that. Obviously, I have learned my lesson and from now on I will know whatever Apple does, it is always for the best and they were capable absolutely nothing more because of complications that are beyond my understanding (even if Android and the jailbreak community achieve more without issue).

<here's where you tell me not everything Android and jailbreak does works and you miss the whole point>

Apple CAN implement more features and they withhold them. Those features are implemented in platforms such as Android and have been for years. Each year, Apple updates iOS with more Android features. This is my entire point. Denying that is just really stupid.

I can only asume from this that not only do you know anything about jailbreaking, but you're also not a developer.

Your rant and demands do not a viable course for Apple make. You have personally decided, with zero knowledge, that the reasons for this decision were not legitimate. Your argument for this was "tweaks".

Did it not occur to you that whilst there may be tweaks that provide this functionality, that they're neither performant nor stable?

Do you have the first idea how a mobile operating system runs, how it has to handle events up the wazoo without consuming battery like there's no tomorrow?

Anything like this is a major PITA and Apple may have well made changes in iPadOS 13 that then made this new widget code in iOS 14 too much of a risk to implement.

No, of course not. All you want to do is go on an uninformed tirade about how useless Apple is and why they haven't implemented widgets ala Android.

I like widgets, I truly do. But I also respect that Apple's slow changes is probably one of the reasons my coming up to 4 year old iPhone is still running fine on iOS 13 and will probably be just as stable on iOS 14.

I will never suggest that Apple could implement something that they did not because I cannot possibly know anything. Everything they do is perfect and should never be questioned. Consider me properly scolded.

You win. I lose.

I do agree that having a calculator widget on the iPad would be nice and I don't need a full-screen calculator either, but I would hope they don't implement it just as a widget* if they ever do bring a calculator over to the iPad.

On a phone it makes sense that the calculator takes up the whole screen and is not available for use side-by-side with other apps. On an iPad, however, it's immensily useful to have a calculator next to another app (in a 2/1 split).

* To my understanding based on iOS 14 coverage these new widgets are not supposed to have functionality in them, anyway. They're for displaying information and providing access to the app, so we shouldn't expect a third-party calculator widget

My point will be proven when Apple eventually does allow widgets on the iPad in iOS 20 as "an exciting new feature we're bringing to the iPad. Now you can access all of your widget on your home screen, just like on iPhone. Isn't that great?"

Yeah, I imagine the WWDC 2021 will be like “Widgets anywhere on the home screen. Now on the iPad” lol

I understand the iPad is used in two different orientations, but I don't see why this means you can't have any widgets on the home screen. It just makes no sense. If that's the concern, then limit the number of apps/widgets that are placed to they can all appear on the home screen in either orientation. And as it is now the apps reorder when you rotate anyway, so they'd do the same thing.

I really cannot imagine that not one person in their meetings never said, "Hey guys, WHY can't the iPad have the same widgets as the iPhone? I don't get it."

It really would vastly improve the iPad. There is absolutely no reason that cannot be overcome to not allow widgets. I could get so much information from the home screen, rather than, app, app, app, app, app...

I don't think they're gonna do it at a later point, that doesn't make any sense especially because the new widgets are right now in iPadOS but in a different place, that's a choice they've made. They would have put them in the homescreen if they thought it made sense, but the made the assessment (probably because of said orientation problems) that it would make the homescreen too confusing with different ordering in the 2 orientations.

Are you going to give this guy the same BS lecture you gave me?

I wish they would have AT LEAST maintained the current functionality of the widgets through all of the app pages in iPadOS. Having only the first page have widgets looks dumb, it should maintain as you're scrolling through app pages.

I'm sure he would agree with you there is NO WAY any of that could be done on iOS 14, right? No way possible! How could they possibly overcome all of the difficulties??
Glad we agree on sonething at last.

You never did answer my questions, so I'll ask i them again:
1) Do you have any proper development experience?
2) How much experience so you have on Jailbreaking?

I'm not going to keep doing back and forth on what's possible on iPadOS 14.0 because that ship has sailed.

You however looking at someone's "pie in the sky" visualization of iPadOS 15 and arguing they "well, why not iPadOS 14?" is utterly laughable in the extreme.

He probably knows more than you though. :) Seriously. Have you ever done jailbreaking?

The question I always ask is, what work do you want apple to stop doing to focus on the stuff you do want them to do? It’s not like Apple have software engineers sitting around doing nothing so if you want them to spend time working on something else, what work are you stopping?

Awesome change of thought process right there.

Why should a 5.4" iPhone need to have the same layout as a 12.9" iPad Pro? My iPad is so big it can fit widgets on the left sidebar.

Besides, the space between icons is totally different on the iPad compared to the iPhone. Widgets would look very weird.

I very much like the current implementation by Apple.
